@@SM7LArchitecture I agree. There’s a lot of prestige to the way architects speak about their work and the vocabulary they choose. It’s mostly post-rationalization of a whimsical design process. I find it much more interesting to see what an architect does with a small budget. I mostly watch these videos to see how the builder executes the details.
Pretty amazing how the curve draws you in visually, very dynamic spaces but all connected through the views outwards and inwards, connections between outdoors and indoors is seamless. This is why you go to an architect to design your house and a great builder to construct it. Great collaboration between the architect, builder and client.

As a US subscriber, I have to be honest and admit that Australian upscale residential architecture has more originality, more personality and a better sense of style than typical US modern architecture. US is somehow more generic and more in-your-face at the same time. Australian examples here are more restrained and yet more sophisticated somehow.
I love the open projects content - I just wish that they were able to disclose the cost of the build for comparative and research reasons. Looking at these materials used, I am sure it was above 3 million AUD - the curved glass windows and the concrete must have cost a fortune! Hats off to the builder and his team!
@@just.call.me.nolan.twitch Ah okay - are you based in Australia? I talked to a builder in France and he said he could do this for under a million euro - but finding the glass is the most difficult part… manufacturers with this capability won’t touch anything below a couple mill for the curved glass 🥲

Sorry, but the architects monologue shows how pseudo-intellectualism can hurt the credibility of modern architecture. Let me recap: 1. Their alleged goal was to create an „sanctuary“, yet they used massive amounts of cold concrete, opted for black prison-like heavy-duty fences, and created large voids inside where your steps create an echo. 2. They named it the „Jewel“ house. The whole beauty of jewels come from their enormous degree of symmetry, yet this is an highly unsymmetrical house. 3. They named a „modest size“ as one of the first priorities, yet they build a house so massive, they had to split it into two (and confidently admit doing so). The building even dwarfs the huge surrounding villas. I feel like this only means: 1. The architects have failed at achieving their alleged goals, or 2. It was just pseudo-intellectual talk meant to elevate the product because its architects didn’t have confidence their work could speak for itself. Either way, it shows how it’s in the architects best interest to be careful with these tactics. The house itself is beautiful and only the architect’s description downgraded its artistic value by creating a list of alleged goals that the building totally failed to meet. The video is stunning anyways. Thanks @The Local Project
@@kurtcampher4716 You missed the whole point. The house is beautiful, the video is beautiful.
