    Disabled vet looking to pick up my first bow. Draw length is right about 27 as I am only 5'5". Mostly looking to hog hunt from a blind. Would love to try them out but.... I am left handed and most shops have to order..... so should I consider the Triax? Also... I have arthritis in the hands which I have heard the Triax has little to no vibration. Thanks for the review. Very in depth!

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery
      @SamuelWhiteArchery  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First of all, thank you for your service. I think that the primary job here is to get a bow in your hands to try out. I'm left-handed too, so I am very familiar with this problem. The reason that I think it's so important is that the arthritis might come into play with the steeper grip angle of the Triax. Hopefully not, but it's something that you'd probably want to confirm before making a purchase. I don't think that the vibration is as big of a deal because you can always add as many dampeners, grip tape, etc. to calm that down. So I would say grip first, vibration second. If you don't mind me asking - Where do you live? I think that it's worth a shot to ask Mathews to lend a local shop a demo bow for you to try. If you're just starting out - I want to make sure that you start off with the right stuff.

  • @rayking3466
    @rayking3466 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good job Sam. Comparing the two (or more) is tough without without putting your own biases into the mix. You did omit the fact that carbon dampens sound by absorbing some of the vibration from the shot. It also doesn't have that icicle feeling in cold temps that we aluminum shooters get. It gets just as cold, but doesn't feel like a frozen piece of metal. I haven't tested the carbon for drop in cold temps. Have you? I know an aluminum riser will shoot low when cold, wonder if the carbon does too.

    I am shopping for a bow and have been looking for a light carbon bow. My local archery shop told me to pass on the Hoyt RX-1 and try the new RX -3. Also want to try out the PSE Carbon Air Stealth that comes in at 3.3 pounds. Have looked at a ton of videos and yours are by far the best I have seen. Keep up the good work.

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery
      @SamuelWhiteArchery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! If lightweight is a big deciding factor for you, you definitley need to try out the Carbon air stealth. It's incredibly light. I recently measured the weight of the RX-3 and the actual weight of the bow is 4.4 lbs which is way off compared to the advertised 3.9 lbs. So I would definitely compare those. I hope this helps!

    Great, honest review. Everything you said about both bows is true. I have a Triax, chose it over the Hoyt for several reasons. I will however agree that the Triax is heavy, but like you said, hunting out here in the Colorado deep timber you are always giving something up to get an edge.I really like the size and silence of my Triax. I used to hunt a 32” and I find the Triax much easier to work into tight spots. I have the 75% let off and initially found it a bit more difficult to hold at full draw for any length of time, however, now that I’m used to it, I think I would have a hard time going back. I have found that having the higher tension at full draw helps to cut down on target panic (it happens to the best of us) and makes me a little less sloppy. You do have to make sure you’re not letting it creep though. One thing that really took me a while to get used to was the mushy back wall, not an issue now. I shot the Hoyt and really liked it, but the Triax just felt right. Deadest bow I have ever shot. Lastly, I’m 6’2” with a 30” draw and haven’t really had any issues at all with the string angle. Thanks again for another great vid

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery
      @SamuelWhiteArchery  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      erikabruce Most bows can last that long if taken care of properly. There will be future matinence, like string changes, etc. But the main things is to make sure the Triax is right for you. Have you tried out the Triax?

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery
      @SamuelWhiteArchery  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your support! I think it's all about trying as many bows as humanly possible to find the bow/brand that best fits your body and your style haha. All of the American brands (if tuned correctly) will be able to outshoot you. For example, if you put a bow in a shooting machine it will shoot more accurate than if it was shot by a human. So the question isn't which bow shoots better, it's which bow shoots best for you. I hope this helps! Thank you again for the support, it means a lot!

      Samuel White pretty much everything hahaha. The size, speed and silent shot combo is killer. The bow fits every damn hunting bag, has no vibration, the draw is smooth, the camo is beautiful, even for me here in Brazil with our different forest pattern, lost camo xd looks fine.

    • @thehunter9149

    • @devenzang9550
      @devenzang9550 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can reduce the sound of a Mathews with other dampeners and accessories too thouuu.. so while you can reduce the sound of a louder bow, you can reduce the sound even more with an already quiet bow. Unless the bow is already totally vibration free of course but we all know there’s always going to be a little no matter what so you’ll always have sound

    Great review. I do wish more reviews would stop pitting the carbon line and use the equivalent aluminum riser bow as the comparison. The Niturm, Faktor, Pro Defiant and now Hyperforce/XXL are still considered flagship bows and fall in a similar price point to the competition. The Carbon line is almost in it's own little bubble with the exception of the PSE Stealth.

    I always see people complaining about how you can hit brush and smack limbs with a longer axle to axle, I've used 40+ axle to axle bows while hunting and never had a problem. Don't worry about the axle to axle on your bow, unless you want a better shooting bow, then go for the longer one.

    Well done!!! I have shot them both. Was at my local shop when they came in. Shot the Mathews, with in the first 3 arrows I was taken away WOW!!!!! The rx1 we were all a double hump. Nope, every single one that came in were way out of time. So got them timed, and started again. And was still not crazy enough about it.

      Samuel White they hit it out of the park this year. But I stayed with my halon. Love the triax, by 28 ata shooting 29" draw, thumb or back tension it was to short for me. Can't wait to see what 2019 brings.

      I'm sorry to hear that I came a cross that way. My goal is to be as unbiased as possible so everyone can make the best purchase decision for them. What part did I say that I preferred the Hoyt? I actually shoot a Mathews, so if anything I would think that I'm Mathews biased haha. Thank you for the feedback though, this is what helps me develop my videos to become better.

    • @wk2466
      @wk2466 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samuel White I'll Check it out. Bowtech Realm, elite ritual, Obsession Fixation. At the end of the day it's just those little things, those little differences that will make one person like it and another not. I simply love the draw cycle and the back wall of the prime, With that said I do believe the Triax Was much smoother. Those were the two bows I was stuck between but the technology packed in the logic to me seemed like a better choice especially if I'm not at my 100% the bow can pick up.

      Steve Hilligoss I just looked through it and wow I didn't mention speed haha. There was only a 3 fps difference in the IBO with the Hoyt being at 340 and the Mathews was 343 fps IBO. So it wouldn't be something to worry about. I'll make sure to include it next time. Thank you for the feedback!

  • @yannugent1414

    Wow! I can't believe spending that much money on a bow. The point of archery hunting is to bring home the bacon n I know a lot of people still can do that consistently with traditional archery equipment like a recurve bow or even a self-made stick bow but friends with high price compound bows often brings home horror stories of wounded animals because they don't spend enough time getting acquainted with their equipment

  • @ericbaker2023
    @ericbaker2023 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Matthews Triax all the way; just shoot it and you’ll understand. This was a nice detailed review, but the Hoyt bias was very evident throughout. That’s not a criticism, just an observation because it was otherwise a great review.

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery
      @SamuelWhiteArchery  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the feedback and support - I certainly appreciate you taking the time! It's crazy to see that people see a Hoyt bias in this video haha. I actually compete with a Mathews so I don't know how I would have a Hoyt bias. My goal is to evaluate bows as objectively as I can. I think that all bows have their strengths and weaknesses - and those differences only matter in the context of how someone desires to use them.
      I've seen a lot of archers that have been sold a bow that makes no sense for what they're doing - and I think that archery as a whole suffers for it.
      I suppose that one of the problems with this video is that they're such different bows. Maybe I need to make sure that it's a closer matchup next time. Thank you once again for the support and feedback! I hope that made sense haha.

    Prime surpasses both Hoyt & Mathews. Just take a look at the torque & nock travel tests from TH-cam member Archer1941 for the facts.

    • @SamuelWhiteArchery

      Wow, super cool video! I wonder how they would do if the bows were all tuned up and retested.

    • @asrealasitgets3121

      @@SamuelWhiteArchery
      Torque actually cannot be removed by tuning. So, the results would be the same regardless if the bow is tuned or not. As far as nock travel, technically cannot be removed either, but can be changed by moving your nocking point up or down or by changing cam timing.
