Visuals are spectacular! Just saw the 31ft model of your tug. Think that would be much more appropriate for your new lifestyle. There is so much more room and a shower. Eyes and glass around the aft area would add another living area and range of conditions you could be comfortable in. Just a thought.
Thanks a bunch. We actually like the 29 better. Fortunately there are many choices and styles. I will admit that if the 31 had a wider beam than the 29, we might think differently.
One of the most Beautiful trips I’ve seen! I wonder are there charters for that area. I live in Tennessee and we have hills called the Smokie Mtns. But having mountains and ocean together is Awesome ! Being photographer I’d love that chance of getting those shots.
Thanks James. Yes there are. To my understanding, you can charter a boat in Vancouver, Nanaimo, and Comox (possibly others) and people do that to reach Princess Louisa. There are also float plane tours from a number of locations and there are smaller, faster charters doing one-day trips from Egmont, BC. There could be other sources that I am not aware of. Perhaps others can chime in.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. Curious to know what software you use to edit. I'd like to add the moving lines on the map and the captions to some of my videos.
Thanks. I appreciate your comments. I use Apple Motion for the map in conjunction with Final Cut Pro for overall editing. Motion produces small video files, so you could import them into any video editing software. Mario Orsini of "2 Wheeled Rider" turned me on to the tool and posted a video on how to use it: th-cam.com/video/L062kwLuVbI/w-d-xo.html
To add: Unlike Mario in his video, I use Apple Maps for the underlying maps and I smooth out the Bezier route lines by setting Roundness in Basic Geometry to 10. Commentary is typically a title that I add in FCPX.

Ranger took a ppt presentation on my 2021 trip to Alaska and made it into a video for their webinar series and although I think it turned out well, it would have been better if I had more video footage and animation similar to what you've done here as the static images are not as lively. I took more videos on my 2022 trip and showed them at the rendezvous in 2022 which was an improvement but I would like to get more skills in the annotation part. Thanks again, bob
@@boborca Since you mention static images, I also took some pointers from Tony Fleming (great Alaska videos). He explained his liberal use of the Ken Burns effect to add movement. Another great source is an amazing video produced by the son of the My Serenade crew th-cam.com/video/8wYknC0ljiI/w-d-xo.html. TH-cam is a great learning tool. 🙂
Our fuel economy has a sweet spot around ~2.7 mpg, which will be around 6-8 kt. For planning purposes I use 7.2 knots. Our "fast cruise" is at 3,250 rpm (90% of load) and is between 15 and 19 knots, depending on currents. We almost always use "fast cruise" when we cross larger bodies of water, like the Strait of Georgia, that have the potential to get "spicy" quickly.
I very much agree. Our USCG rules are a bit ambiguous and demand that the passing vessel passes safely with minimal wake. That pass, in a narrow channel, in my opinion was not safe. In my experience and in our cruising area, most recreational boaters are very respectful and safe. Most issues I have encountered were with commercial boaters. Whale watching boats, commercial crab fishermen, etc. I was told that this particular boat was the "project boat" of someone with a commercial dock in La Conner, WA. The boat returned shortly after leaving the channel and it looked to us like a test run.

Nice trip... we've been to Alaska twice. Sitka the first time and Cordova the 2nd but haven't gotten to Princess Louisa yet...but it's on the list....
should take a run over to bahamas at some point. there's a ranger tug 25 over there now.
That would be fun and a point in favor of trailering these boats. Maybe in a few years.

In NZ you should go faster than 5 knots within 100m of another vessel. That guys shooting past you guys is in my humble opinion an idiot
