Because in a zoo they have limited space the animals become frustrated easily and the females become jealous of the new baby. In these times such conflict can escalate and put the newborn in danger. So the zookeepers always take the baby to protect it so it gets a bit stronger and also the mother. Meanwhile the others become used to the baby and so on. Remember newborns are very vulnerable and small injuries can kill them. Some mothers even reject their babies. The zoo keepers just make sure that the mother is taking good enough care of the baby and that it's not too late already when they find out there is a problem. These tiny fragile babies die very easily if the mother is too young and nog interested or if she herself has milk issues or health issues. The zoo number one priority is to ensure the survival of these threatened species.

The care they are receiving is adequate. They're not being swung into things or left on the ground.

Haruka Kurono - see if you have a local zoo, vet climic or vet hospital and find out what sort of training you would need to have in order to be able to volunteer. I am sure many such places can use the help. Maybe they would even provide some training? It becomes a win win situation for all that way.

I know this is an older video but... Why do zoo's always seem to yank the baby away from the mother? I know most of the ones that have been human reared don't know squat about raising a baby when they get old enough to have one because they weren't allowed to stay with their Mom and learn from her... At this baby's age they are in constant contact with Mom, only when they get close to a year old do they start venturing short distances away from Mom. Leave them with their Moms, let them learn how to be an orangutan for a change. You might be surprised and learn that they are highly intelligent and very loving towards their young!

@@lilyshi9576 I understand that. Sometimes things happen that they have to be hand raised. I watched another video where they were raising it by hand and several people in the comments said that they zoo always took the babies away from their Mom every time, that's why I asked.

That baby needs CONSTANT PHYSICAL CONTACT with a caretaker at that age!!!!! It looked to be a female, so I will bet all the moneh in the world that when she has a baby of her own she will "reject" it because she won't know how to care for it properly because she was not cared for properly as an infant!!!!! It's a vicious cycle and it's sad... if these people aren't educated enough to care for a baby orangutan properly then they should NOT breed them and take the infant away from tbe mother only to not properly care for them...

Amanda Newman - I do not know where that was as I am unfamiliar with the language posted but it looked like either a zoo or a vet hospital - especially with where the 'formula' was, and how it was precisely measured out and will even take a fairly good guess it is not the only animal they are caring for at the same time. This baby is young enough it most likely nurses several times a day, or probably during an hour, and sleeps, and urinates and defecates, and gets changed, and fed, and burped, and the cycle starts all over again. If a zoo or a vet hospital I am sure when time permits the animal probably gets a dose of 'touch'.
I am fascinated with how people on TH-cam are so wise even without all the facts.

Arkaprava De - sometimes it depends on the country this is in and their thoughts on human life. Some countries think nothing of disposing of a human life and saving an animal - even going so far as to worshiping animals over human life.
