💚 I started using mosquito dunks mid August. They do work but it takes a loooong time. I haven't seen any gnats for about a month now. I did notice them getting less and less along the way though. I put a quarter dunk in my water jug and let it sit for a week then use that for my weekly watering (filtering out the dunk bits and leaving them in the jug). The quarter dunk lasts about a month or longer before it's disintegrated.
Thank you so much for your informative video's. You are such a blessing. With your advise I have finally picked up my Mosquito Dunks from Urban Nature Store (they are very friendly). Been living with fungus gnats for YEARS and had just gotten used to cohabitate with them as I've always had over 50+ plants. I will come back and give a testimonial in a few weeks to see how it goes. I have a feeling my house spiders are going to go hungry soon.
Hi. Enjoy your channel! I'm in the US. I've never heard of mosquito dump. Interesting. We had an infestation of fungus gnats which started from a bag of Miracle Grow soil. We did a three step method by placing mosquito bits in the soil. Then sprayed plants and soil with neem oil then we took a jar with narrow top, placed cut up banana peel and apple cidar vinegar to bottom. Then placed a paper funnel we made that fit into the top that woukd allow the gnats to go in but noy come out. It worked. Any stragglers were hit w/Neem. Its been three years. Now the mealy bugs and hoya ... I use systemic for soil which holds them at bay at least 3 months for some longer but they're really a nuisance. Look forward to next videos! Long Island NY
Sorry to reply so late, TH-cam doesn't always notify me of new comments. Mosquito dunks are the same as Mosquito bits I believe. They have worked so well for me, I can say I'm almost gnat free, an odd one Flys around but I just add another dunk to my water to keep them at bay. Unfortunately we can't buy systemic in Canada, I wish we could.
Thank you for mentioning the store name! I’m in Windsor so I had to order with shipping, but even with the shipping cost a pack of 20 is still exponentially cheaper than the pack of 6 on Amazon!
Fungus gnats have been the bane of my existence!!! Thank you for telling your experience with Hydrogen Peroxide and other methods! I have always worried that the Peroxide approach would eliminate lots of beneficial ecology, and perhaps not even work. Then with neem seed meal, and soil-drenches using it, I have had improvement, allowing plants to grow through, regardless of lingering gnat activity, but not eliminated (just like you said!). Now I have finally gotten BTI mosquito "dunks". I think I avoided it for years, worrying that it might affect the microbiome of the soil in some undesirable way, but I don't have much reason to worry about that, and actually think it seems like the perfect method if it works. Interesting that it is so hard to find in Canada! I actually have some scary, rabbit-hole concerns about fungus gnats, pertaining to not only our soil ecologies, but human health and history. I hope this worked for you!!! I hope it works for me! Thank you for uploading and sharing!
I have been pretty much fungus gnats free since I did this video. I did buy cheap mosquito traps from Amazon and I use them for the adults. To be honest I haven't seen a fungus gnats in the longest time. I'll try and find a link for the trap so you can see what I am talking about. 💚
This is the type I bought, it's not a Zapper just a light and fan and I put yellow sticky traps in the basket. This one is way more expensive than the ones I got, mine were about $15. You may find cheaper in your country. I find these great. amzn.to/3kaZLos
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 This is great news! I am very pleased to hear it, and thank you for uploading about your experience here on TH-cam!! I just watered a few indoor planters with their first round of BTI-infused water, and will proceed with that from now on. In the past I have used a sort-of "compost tea" of fermented goodies with a strong infusion of neem-seed meal, as well as introducing beneficial predatory insects like mites and rove beetles. I will include those as well, and with regular use of Mosquito bits/dunks, I am very hopeful and looking forward to the changes! 💚
Mosquito dunks are sold in Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe's, anywhere that has a garden or outdoor section. They might only be available in store during the winter but I have seen them available online at Home Depot and Walmart, even in winter. I am in Elgin county area in Ontario. My husband works at Home Depot and he orders them and brings them home whenever I ask. :)
Ordered the dunks from the urban nature store and shipping was super quick to Simcoe County. What a great store! I can’t wait to visit the store once this virus is over and we are all vaccinated! Don’t hesitate to order from this store
I also took a dunk, whipped it up in my magic bullet with water then added it to my jug of water. Hopefully, this will help in the breakdown of the dunk! looks pretty good right now!
Thanks for the tip, very useful (hopefully get rid of them), what I found out that we need to crumble up quarter of the dunk and put it into the gallon of water. Leave it at least over night, probably better longer. I to have them right now in all my 77 plants and it is exhausting to say the least. I have been using these dunks for about a week and so many yellow stickers...very expensive for sure. Also we cannot get it in Canada, is called mosquito bits, and it works better and faster. So thanks for doing this experiment also. let us know. Loved your 'natural' video! Alena
Thanks Alena. I just put another video up yesterday where I talk about tips that I have and I address fungus gnats also. I have a few more tips in that one.
I used Ant Out (indoor & outdoor) to spread on indoor plants & soil, over thousands Fungus Gnats die in one second, to buy in Wal-mart or Home Depot, CD$ 10.00 each. After weeks, spry again, because some adults in deep soil, eggs be adults need time.
💚 lol, I i was just online last night on Amazon looking for mosquito dunks and they are not available... thank you for sharing where you got yours... i am in Halton Hills so i am hopeful some nature shop close to me carries them.
I think Amazon will allow you to return it free if you tell them you got it for a better price. See if you can find a store near you so you don't have to pay shipping 💚
Hi Rana, ai just changed all my stickies last night, I will be doing an update next week. I think there is a reduction as there are none their this morning, fingers crossed.
Oh thats funny, i just went to the Oshawa location and bought the 6 pack!! Can you imagine i went to homehardware after and saw the same pack for $32.99. insane!

If you are in Canada use Doktor Doom Fogger, read the instructions, you need to leave the area. Then continue with mosquito dunks. I am finally gnat free
A US uTuber was demonstrating the mosquito bits and she puts the bits in hot water and let’s it sit until room temp and then she bottom-waters her plants every couple weeks. Maybe we can dissolve the dunks in the same manner?
@@jungleflowerscanada5384 I thought of doing the same and with some research I have found out it is not a good idea. Every time a bug gets zapped, they release bacteria into the air that can be harmful to breath.
I actually bought a blue light trap and I'm trying it out. It doesn't zap them but thank you so much for this info, it's good to know. I am testing this one out as Idlike to get rid of yellow stickies even though my infestation is so much better. Stay tuned 💚
Just set out a glass of water with a drop of vanilla and a drop or two of dish soap mixed in. Add a yellow sticky to attract as well. They make a great pair for gnats and fruit flies, which are also gnats.
If you're in Toronto, you can get them in smaller packs from Plant Society on Queen St East. You don't need to use a lot to kill the gnats, one puck should last you two watering cycles at least. Fungus gnats begone!
I knew I liked you...I live in Durham Region as well. LOL Happy New Year! Great video. I was wondering mosquito bits and dunks. Looking forward to part two. #GreenHeart lol I don't know how to do a green heart!
Mosquito bits have truly worked for me. Hope you have the same results. It did take 2-3 watering cycles (7-10 day watering cycle each for most of my plants). Nice to have those flying pests gone!

I could listen to your adorable accent all day!! Can't wait to try this because I've tried everything else without success!
Ha ha thanks Rosalind, it worked great, i hardly have any now. Just keep one in your watering can all the time.

How much of water and mosquito dunks
Fungus gnats will not hurt your plants, but the larvae do feed on young roots.

I had to crush mine and sprinkle them on top of the soil to get rid of my gnats. I only put in water for mosquitoes.
I tried but found it hard to crush them. I out them on top of.the soil of my outdoor plants when I brought them in.
I used them and found they only work if you use distilled water💚💚💚💕🌸

I hope bubbling water for 24-48 hrs with vit c is enough to stop some chlorine/amines go away not to kill the bugs..
