We are brainwashed with American tv and films since birth, this is especially true in places like UK and Australia and other former British colonies so it’s not that hard for us. Americans tend to only watch Americans things so they only tend to know about themselves, sad really I suppose American globalisation is sad.
She is so beautiful. I’ve never seen any movies of hers but “ Loving”. That makes me want to see more ! They are two talented actor/actress . It’s sad to me that there were times like depicted in this movie and unfortunately although times have changed a lot of ignorance still remains. I am part of a biracial couple with children who are beautiful representations of the good in this world. I can’t imagine living back then. I surely would have been in jail for life or dead because some things you just can’t deal with! I’m glad they brought the Lovings story to the big screen. That was also what I consider TRUE love. The way they acted out their roles amazed me. Great job to the both of them!
If Hollywood ever decides to do another story on Dorothy Dandridge I hope they seriously consider Ruth Negga for the part. She's a great actress and she favors Dandridge a great deal.
Clarissa Olivares Yes it most definitely would. Ruth Negga also said that Dorothy Dandridge and Eartha Kitt are her two style icons and she tries to channel Miss Dandridge whenever she hits the red carpet.
These actors are amazing, to transform yourself to another character, well done. I cried at the end of the movie. Richard died 7 years after. This breaks my heart but at least he was able to enjoy his marriage and family without any stress . Love the actors, love the movie, love the message. Thank God for our ancestors who fought for our rights.
Color is everywhere. In our race, in our plants, in our animals, in our skies, in our oceans, in our solar system . We ALL should love and enjoy ALL colors. We have been blessed to have such beautiful things and people to look upon!
Margie Grover it’s a shame that racism white supremacy exists and we can’t all just appreciate all of the colours like you say... but some white people need to lose some privilege in order for that to happen.
Why are there so many comment about how they aren't American. Why does it matter? American people play foreign roles all the time. Foreign people play American roles all the time. I don't understand what the big deal is 😂
This is such a beautiful and eye opening story, I had children by a white man and I remember being looked at in grocery stores and the nasty remarks people would say to us just for being seen side by side, his father wasn’t to fond of us being together my mother wasn’t either they felt like we should stay with our own kind, but we loved each other and that love is what kept us together
Comments saying that they aren't American is exactly the same saying she's black he's white, that's not right...were all human people. they're humans portraying other humans at a time where there was injustice based on race.
I guess I've been living under a rock, but I have never heard of this couple until I watched Loving today. Now I'm searching the internet and TH-cam for all the information I can find. What a great story. Loved the movie and these two deserve an Oscar imo.
I just watched the movie and loved it! It's so sad that the actions, laws, and mentality were and still are being justified. The fact that people of different skin color want to be together and raise a family is a beautiful testament to the human spirit. Ruth Negga is a product and example of that begin Irish and Ethiopian.
Thank you for telling the loving’s story , I also didn’t know much about the couple and then I saw this movie trailer and I read all the articles and watched the videos they had up there about this wonderful couple .
DrMoorehen I don't remember where I heard this but around the time of Shakespeare, apparently the English accent was very similar to the southern accent, which is why it may be easier for them.
I love love love this movie!!!!! It is a true testament of love and that people can't give up, no matter what!! I cried like a baby when Mr.Loving died a few short years after their victory. It would've been the perfect ending to their story if they had gotten to grow old with each other but God had a different plan. I think its sweet that Mildred never remarried. You only have one true love in life.....
Oh my gosh at all the butthurt comments, "Why didn't they use American actors?!" First of all, who cares?! Second of all, it's amazing they were skilled at speaking in Southern accents even though their own natural accents are so different. I saw the documentary that was done on this couple a year or two ago and now this movie. This is not the first movie about this couple though, Lela Rochon and Timothy Hutton did a movie called Mr. & Mrs. Loving. I didn't get a chance to see that one, but I did see this new movie and I loved how they showed the human side of this couple. My only complaint is that they didn't mention that there were 16 states that had laws on the book at the time and which 16 those were. I think mentioning some historical facts would help for those who didn't see the documentary nor will. I am sure you probably could find the Documentary on this couple here on TH-cam or on Netflix or some of the other movie service.
I saw the film with Lela Rochon and Timothy Hutton years ago and it was very well done. My only issue was that Lela Rochon (in addition to being a talented actress) was so gorgeous that I couldn't focus as much on the film. Both films are worth seeing as the message itself is powerful and moving and the story reminds us that love conquers all.
They can just use google to do their own research about this era, this history and part of the world. It’s not hard for most people to do that, many Americans are lazy and deliberately dumbed down when it comes to their own history, it’s sad.
Honesty I think the movie is just fine, the point of the movie was to tell the story from their ( Loving’s) PoV not the court case except that they won. Not everything should be spelled out for the viewer if they are that interested they could research the court case. I did after watching the movie.
European actors can pass as Americans waaaay more than Americans can pass as European actors. I don't know why they find it so easy to do the different American accents, when the opposite is often not true.

Ruth isnt black she clearly is half irish and half black her mother is irish , you can see her facial features and her lighter skin that she isnt 100% black .
Her accent is 100% Irish. It does not sound Scottish or British (Scotland is on the island of Britain by the way), or even American. Ireland has lots of Accents. Maybe you are not familiar with them all.

They were angry because they couldn’t find that l love that the loving family found or other families in the same situation have .
Edgerton states that "two people changed the Constitution." The decision found Virginia law to be unconstitutional, citing the 14th amendment. Virginia law was changed, not the Constitution.
If it were only Virginia Law it would still be illegal in the other 15 states that had Miscegenation laws on the book at the time. It did change the Constitution. The Supreme Court decision changed the law in all 16 states that had those laws on the book in 1967.
The Constitution itself was not changed. Instead the Supreme Court found Virginia's miscegenation laws (and therefore the similar laws of the other 15 states) to be unconstitutional, and the states were forced to repeal them. A change to the Constitution would require an amendment. Rather, the Loving case forced the highest US court to interpret the Constitution vis-a-vis miscegenation, which was determined to be illegal. Either way, this was a groundbreaking case that changed the course of US history.
I find simple thinking people annoying. Again I ask--why couldn't they find AMERICAN actors to portray a story about something that happened in America?? I do think they are nice people and did a good job, but I am curious why no American actors were chosen.
