    I just replaced the gaskets on my 2007 Ody, no major issues. I had to pry my gaskets out and they broke into many pieces. I used the Dorman replacement set. I separated the top hose in the video above the part and flipped it out of the way, a little better access. I thoroughly cleaned out all of the valve parts with carb spray and let dry. It looks like I had extensive leaking from that area because it was all dirty and oily back there and I cleaned it off as best as I could. For the $12 for the gasket, worth it. Also did the oil filter housing gasket at the same time when changing the oil and did plugs. My van has 305K miles on it and runs awesome, I did mostly replace the suspension last year, so it rides great too. Hoping to run it to 400K. It drives and runs fantastic.

      I tried just the gaskets, but "no dice" so I replaced the whole assembly and it seems fixed!
      Make sure your bolts are clean when you reassemble! On my first go around, mine had some oil on them and just kept turning with my torque wrench until one broke off in the engine! A left-handed drill bit got it out, but it was not a good time.
      Thanks for the helpful video, Mr Ranger!

    My 2007 Odyssey, the VTEC solenoid leaked and it pretty much burned out my alternator last year. The other solenoid valve seal failed this week. I didn't know how to replace both, I had to bring to a mechanic. Now I have an idea to do so. My van is already at 274k kms. Thx for the tutorial. I used your tutorial late last year for the rear bearing replacement.

      I replaced mine a couple years ago and seems like it's time to do it again, tempted to add a schemear of hondabond but probably not a good idea. Still beats cost of replacing it and I'm wary of aftermarket options.

    Hi, your videos on how to fix/service Odyssey saved me tons of $$$. Thank you very much for that. This time, I run into some serious problem changing the gasket, two of the 3 10 mm bolts securing the soleniod to the engine broke while I tried to tighten them to 16 ft-lb. It took me sometime to remove those two bolts (luckily, I was able to do that.) I am going to get the new bolts from the dealer but am worried about the same will happen again. Do you have any suggestion? Should I try to tighten them to lesser torque?

    • @MrRangerZr1
      @MrRangerZr1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What is most likely happening is you're using the torque wrench with too much force and or using a big torque wrench, smaller torque wrenches don't make a loud click so you have to slowly turn until you feel the click. Tbh, just snug it up like I did, no need to tighten like mad, the new gasket will seal fine.

    • @alstines1
      @alstines1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also happened to me :) The first one I tightened broke, I was relying on my torque wrench and it never clicked. I managed to take the broken piece out and thought the issue was with the bolt. I ordered a new set of bolts. The first new bolt I tightened with the torque wrench broke (again :) I then realized that the issue was not the bolts (LoL)

    • @raymondf9265
      @raymondf9265 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@denysdubuc5138 I used a starter punch and small hammer and carefully hit the top of the broken bolt near the edges in a direction that unscrewed it. Eventually, I was able to twist complety out with my fingers but needed the starter punch to begin this process. My bolt pretty much broke even with the surface of the mounting area. I would imagine every break is unique and will require different strategies to remove. I am glad I didn't have to drill and mine came out nicely with no damage other than the bolt.

    Hello Mr ranger, first I'd like to thank you for your videos which are always a goldmine to me!
    Last year in March, I used your video to replace the VTEC solenoid Gaskets (2 gaskets) in our '08 Odyssey, the one in the front above the alternator, by the motor oil dipstick. It completely stopped the leak....till November, which is ok for me.
    I have just changed them again last week. I prefer to change the gaskets than buy a new solenoid because the solenoid works fine AND the gaskets cost only $12 for the pair....I'm ok with doing it every 7 months.
    My question please after seeing this new video above is....does the '08 van also have this VVT solenoid, and is it at the same location as the '06 van in this new video?
    Thanks.

      The most tell tale sign of these valves leaking is oil on the bottom side of the heater core hose directly below this valve. It’s also pretty common to see the camshaft plug o-rings failing too as they are only a few inches below this valve. They will leak onto the block but this valve will leak onto the heater hose when it fails
