Good job. And happy you got the summit. I do that route as a dayhike in Sept ish 2 or 3 times. Man that pack looked a bit heavy, but maybe not too heavy based on your smile. I need look into expanded my comfort level and do 3 or 4 day deeper into wilderness. Keep adventuring 8P
Kayla, You said back to the real world. I feel it's the other way around. You were in the real world in Eagle Cap Wilderness. Great video. Love the Lostine Valley. Hope you unstrapped your top and bottom clips on your pack when you walked across that wooden bridge, especially hiking alone. I'm inspired to get back up to Eagle Cap. Thanks.
Thanks! Definitely had to work up to these bigger hikes by myself. I started with smaller day hikes for a handful of years before I felt more comfortable with the overnighters. :) Thanks for the nice comments!
@@kayla_sulak that sounds like the perfect way to prepare for solo trips. my husband and i have done a few backpack trips together and he has done more than i can count. he can no longer backpack due to back issues so watching your video brought back all kinds of wonderful memories for me. our backpack trips were in southern california but we would love to hike the eagle cap area.
@@barbaradarnell7376 I wasn't aware, but I did some online research-- Apparently its outlet does split and flow into both the Wallowa and Lostine drainages, which is somewhat of a geographic rarity that it does that. Very cool! Thanks for bringing it up!
Hi! Wow amazing video. Besides the orange rooster tail, what other fishing rig did you use? I have been told dry fly with bobber but never had luck with that up there.
Hey hey! Thank you! 🙏 I think I have the most luck with golden spinners; white and/or pink feathery weighted "jigs"/wooly bugger type lures; and of course, bottom fishing with floating powerbait nuggets is usually a hit, but they tend to gut hook themselves from swallowing those nuggets, so I use that if I'm trying to catch dinner quickly and likely not releasing the fish
Hey thanks! I was carrying an Induro tripod at the time, although I don't recommend it for hiking (it weighed like 6lbs). I've switched to a smaller carbon fiber one that only weighs 1lb, and I like it a lot but I can't remember the brand name off the top of my head right now. I'll report back if/when I remember!
This was in mid July. I actually filmed it the summer before last, but the footage got lost/stuck on a broken old phone for about a year before I managed to recover it. 🙃✌️
Excellent video. That pile of trout looked delicious!
Thanks! Those high lake brookies are good eating, especially after a hard hike 🤓

Well said about the "real world." Hah! Thanks!
That was fun to see! Your pack size reminded me of "Wild". Cheryl would be proud. Wish I was that brave.
Hah 😂😄 thanks Melanie!!!

You are brave to backpack all by yourself but looks like an awesome hike and adventure!

Hi, thank you so much Rick! I hope you can make it to the top of Eagle Cap someday! :)
Wonderful!!
Thank you ☺️
That Upper Lake is the one that is the headwaters of two different streams isn't it?

@@kayla_sulak thank you so much for the information! will be trying to catch dinner up there and hoping to catch some good sized ones like you did!
Hi. Dang nice video. Enjoyed your way of portraying the trip. What tripod are you carrying? I'm looking for one to take backpacking.

Awebo!!
Thsank you. 😃
Any bugs that time off year?
It has its fair share of mosquitoes in the summer
How where the sketers?
Almost no skeeters that time (mid-late July) but they've been bad at other nearby lakes around the same time before. Got lucky this time!
@@kayla_sulak I did mirror lake a few years back, mid July... Was a nightmare... You are very lucky lol
What time of year was this? I assumed this was from previous year due to lack of snow.

You lift that much of weight for a 16 mile hike!!!!
Never unprepared! 🤪
