when i think about Ryo as a real life 30 year old sex maniac with prolly ptsd from drug side effects and war & has the best skills of a killer marksman than anyone else is quite uncomfortable to me..

wow, it looks like a proper Japanese live action adaptation of City Hunter! Also glad they're using a version of the iconic City Hunter song.
It will never be as hilariously awful as the jackie Chan one though.

It's that scene where Ryo and Kaori followed the Cosplay girl giving chase into a random gaijin transgender night club and Ryo shot the kidnapping perp in the shoulder and subsequently shot the grenade in mid-air thrown by another baddie.
Okay okay, I get it. The Japanese creators of the Netflix version had to meet ESG Quota to appease Netflix execs, or no go on funding the show (Sad reality of the times we live in these days). But the Japanese writers were able to incorporate this woke scene in a non invasive way and didn't tarnish the plot so it's all good.

Can’t believe, a live action adaptation!! I hope it follows the original manga. The others I have seen were not so identical to the original, the closest one was the French version, but in Paris.

City Hunter is one of those series that is just made to be adapted to live action. It has a realistic modern setting, wild action that don’t look silly but badass, and a realistic main character that don’t come as a cliche.
Ehhh, most of those I agree with, but Ryo is very much a cliche character. I know city hunter is a much earlier series, so there weren’t as many pervert characters in anime the way that there are now, but they still really overdo the whole “him being horny” thing. It wasn’t funny the first time, and it wasn’t funny the next 100,00 times they do it. Not saying the original manga/anime aren’t good, just that element is WAAAYY overdone and I hope they maybe dial it down to 8 this time instead of 120

City Hunter is the only manga I've followed since childhood...and now I'm still follows its "sequel" spin-off, Angel Heart.

Yes it is. So far that one resembles & stays true to the manga the most.
The HK one is good, but it strays away from many of the original plot. The characters are quite similar though.
An the Korean one is WTF?! Straight BS it had nothing to do with the manga. They just took the characters & gave them completely different storylines.

There are two Hong Kong adaptations. The first one is with Jackie Chan that misses the mark.
The other is called Mr Mumble it is the far superior adaptation.
so i took a look at his demographic, and i found he's been acting in wild kind of acting, mainly as hen tai kamen, and also Oremonogatari live action, which my fav anime. the casting is freaking wild bro.

Phillipe Lacheau did a great job on that movie considering he didn't have a big budget to work with. This one looks very promising.
Personally I liked the Jackie Chan adaptation too😂 This is probably the only anime with no bad adaptations.
i am french and it is nice to see people like the french city hunter because half the jokes are french references and it is a pure comedy with some action , but the netflix movie seems way more badass, with real danger and drama.
@@jondup2857 It was a decent adaptation. Tsukasa Hojo had refused several offers to adapt Ciy Hunter since the Jackie Chan version, but said that the script Lacheau gave him captured the essence of his story.
The main difference between the french version and the Netflix version is that the former shoehorned Makimura's death into a silly plot, while this film is going to be centered around it, thus the more serious tone.

Just finished the movie and if you like the manga, i would like to recommend this. Although there are some changes and less sexual scenes ( Less "Mokkori" ) compare to the manga but i like this interpretation of live action Ryo Saeba 👍

The french film Nicky Larson was a nice, fun and wacky adaptation of city hunter and i have always wanted more of that. Perhaps this would even be better. Hopefully
the problem of the french version, there is too much jokes and some caracters are useless. even the fight umibozu vs city hunter is just a joke. PLus the actors are not so good unfortunately. i think the netflix movie will be better and more realistic and badass, with more serious moment wherre you can feel real tension. i am french by the way

I just realized that Metal Gear Solid and FF7 have similarity with City Hunter. Main protagonist was raised in military training since very young. MC's love interest are somewhat naive and has strong sense of justice (Kaori, Tifa / Aerith, Meryl). Side character like Otacon is similar to Kaori's older brother. Umibozu is similar to Barret. Sniper wolf is similar to Saeko...

You never heard of .... Right, probably before your time. It was based on popular anime/mange back in late 80s and early 90s. I think there was a live-action adaptation attempt in the 90s with Jackie Chan playing the character and the story based on Hong Kong landscape rather than Japan.

Let's hope. The Korean one had a great first couple episodes, then really seemed to lose momentum. It didn't really follow the manga, and also didn't really do it's own thing well. It was kind of the worst of both paths. This already looks to be more true to the manga, and should be way better.
