My cousin, he's a mechanic but I don't speak to him often, serviced my car for me and my cigarette holder hasn't been working since. It didn't bother me at first because I still haven't passed my test but I am ready to take my test now so I want it to work so I'm able to keep my phone charged when commuting. Nobody I knew could tell me what was wrong with it, but I came across your video and checked the fuse for it- low and behold the fuse needed changing. Thank you for this video, it was very informative!

Very easy fix ... what helped me is the fact that you pointed out the drawing being flipped around
What can I say my good man, that was the easiest fix EVER. Decided to do it just now even though it's totally dark. Took no more than 3 minutes. Lighter now works

Brilliant- thank you! Wanted to get a DAB adapter but because the cigarette lighter output wasn't working thought it wasn't gonna be possible with out getting a new stereo- saved us a load. Cheers!

the ring light around my lighter comes, on will check the fuse tonight but would that mean ( the ring light coming on) i need to change the socket itself?
aaaaaaaaaaaand you just saved me a trip to the shop, so easy! Now I stock those fuses because let's be honest it is on all the time so is bound to happen.
Yeah when the suckers at vw put a 10 in it when it should be a 15 yeah it will blow much easyier 🤣

LOL, i actually thought this was too simplistic an explanation. So it turns out that after removing all the dashboard searching for a cut in the wires, it was the passenger 12V cigarette lighter in the back that had a penny stuck deep inside. Thanks for this.

Hi great video, one minor question though, where can I find that particular fuse.
need some advice, I have a B5.5 passat wagon with one lighter in the front and two in the back cargo space, I want to set up a dash cam but all of them are always on even when the car is off so if my cam is plugged in it'll kill my battery. How can I get these to not be always on or do I just have to use my front one and plug/unplug it everytime I get in and out of the car? cause I can route the wire all the way from the back and it fits just right which is why I want to use the back lighter in the first place

Hi, looking for some advice. I've got a VW Golf 1.6 Bluemotion 61 plate and the cigarette lighter has stopped working. I tried replacing the fuse in the video and also tested every fuse in that panel and under the bonnet but no resolution. There is no visual damage to the cigarette lighter port itself.. any advice/suggestions??

I have a Volkswagen Polo and my friend thought it would be a good idea to see if a USB would plug in without the adaptor! He fused the socket obviously. Without this video I probably would have ended up paying £200 or something to get it fixed. Thanks!

Those amps inside your fuse box, are they 32v or 12-24v? Because I have a Bluetooth fm kit that has 12v-24v. I was wondering if I need to get a 32v cigarette lighter?

Hey, I just recently had a look at my fuse box (VW Polo 6n2) and I found that one of the fuse(white colour, 2v i think) was just hanging outside. I know that it belongs to the bottom row because of it's larger size but how can I find out in which slot it belongs to? Any help is appreciated :)
nice video, can you do one on a mk4 wagon with dome, map, trunk and door puddle lights not coming on problem? (also the climate control back lights do not come on either). The a/c illumination light works. Dashboard and radio lights work fine, door locks & factory alarm work fine.

Great video mate, but I have a quick question. I drive a 99 mercedes slk230. I did blow out the 15 amp car lighter fuse and also found out that it disabled a few other fuse slots when I checked it with the volt meter to see if there was power. When I started the car, it was smoking. I didnt know where it was smoking from until the nest day. I found out the fuse for the car lighter was blown so I replaced it. Boom.. Right away it blew. and now my car wont start. It cranks, but it wont start. In your opinion, and with your experience, what do you think could be the cause. Oh, by the way, the wire from the fuse box which is under the hood to the cigarette lighter had melted the outside skin. You could see the bare copper wire. It only melted that one and that's why it smoked.. What can I do if I;m broke and have no money to spend on taking it to the shop. How can I fix it at home? Any response would be much appreciated. Hi mate. Just a quick question. I'm trying to tap of the power from my cigarette lighter. When I check behind the cig lighter in the Polo, there's 3 wires. A red w/ yellow stripe, a green and a brown. I know one is ground and one is the 12v power but I'm not sure what the third wire is for? Advice?
Is there a simple way to remove that inner bit to clean it mine has some bad corrosion on it

I've got a 2004 vw polo same shape as this one, for some reason a engine warning light come on, it's a solid light so I'm guessing its a emissions light. The light will come on and the car won't rev pass 3000rpm. When I leave the car for a while and start it up again it revs perfectly fine. And after driving it a little bit I switch the engine off then on and the engine light turns off. Also I've not ive been getting very bad fuel consumption any help work be Great thanks man
Thanks, I realised the info-panel for my fuse box was reversed. Found the blown fuse. Now I can charge my phone and plug in my compressor. Nice!
