- The specs are virtually identical but yet the Alienware AW2724DM is much more expensive than the Dell G2724D. Is the price difference justified or should you just get the cheaper monitor?

Manufacturers should be required to disclose the panel model.
Especially on laptops
Yeah. The only way to see it without buying it first is from displayspecifications website. The good thing is they also include factory name the monitor came from
you can easily find it if you google the monitor model
@@McDudes Not quite. I use a Dell 2007FPb as a second monitor (I know that it's old, but in retrogaming that's an advantage). The identical 2007FP model came in two panel types: one IPS also used in model for businesses that I have, and second VA panel. And there is no way to tell those panel types apart without plugging in the monitor and judging personally or looking at the back on the serial number.
you pay for a product. you shouldn't have to "Google" what's inside. @@McDudes
you channel is severely underrated. has to be one of the most informative videos out there, not to mention the great production quality. happy new year!
Alienware hasn't been value for money ever since it's launch, or more accurately it's acquisition by Dell.
I think the AW3423DW and DWF are the exceptions to this. They were the first to the market with a QD OLED and it was fairly priced ( I know its out of 99% of peoples ranges but it was still very fair ) and was also quickly discounted. I got mine for around £950 ish not long after its release. Then the DWF released and that thing is still competitive in its pricing and constantly on sale. Even at its base price its still competitive and you get an amazing display for how much you pay.
it is , if you are a shareholder :D
Their side products are great. I got an Alienware bag; best mountaineer bag I ever had marketed as gamer crap lol
Alienware was trash before Dell got it.
Alienware WAS premium, back in the day - and I'm old enough to remember it. Hell, I turned down a job at Tiny just for an interview with them at the time (lucky escape... Twice....).
Thanks for the icc profil for ktc h24 and settings, its perfect colored now 👍
i just subscribed, didn't know a channel thar covers monitors so well as a newbie and this info helps
Hey i have myself a Lenovo G27q-20, that you reviewed previously, thank you for the colour profile btw, it actually fits and helps. I bought it several years ago, i think well before you even made your review.
So something i noticed is that the 165Hz mode on it is filthy. You won't notice the issue in games, so it's not at all useless, but desktop use and specialised tests reveal it. For one, slowly moving things can have a faint shadow wandering behind them, regardless of overdrive mode selected, but i suppose that's just overdrive tuning, it could have been done better by the engineering team. And the other is that inversion tests and particular pixel patterns result in strong local flickering. Considering it runs very well at 144Hz without these issues, and is best at 120hz/10-bit, it gives me an impression that this is a 144Hz panel and pushing it to 165Hz was just about possible but probably a step too far.
Not that i am anyhow dissatisfied, I actually got exactly what i needed for my combination of diverse use cases, i just have to be conscious about refresh rate selection.
So i'm wondering whether the Dell branded monitor you're showing here, whether it has actually a good all-purpose 165Hz mode; or whether they too have stretched their tech a little far; and in turn whether the 180Hz Alienware is the one to actually deliver on the promise of top refresh rate at all times with no drawbacks, which would actually do well towards justifying a good chunk of the price increase.
Rtings has a review to show both AW2724DM vs G2724D. USB Hub, 180hz and HDR600 is what you're paying $100 more for. If you don't want any of those things, go with the G2724D, they're basically exact same performance monitor and G2724D has better natural black uniformity/text clarity.
also AW2724DM (600 cd/m²) has 200 cd/m² more brightness than G2724D (400 cd/m²) (Dell Specs)
DisplayHDR 600 also requires local dimming, unlike lower DisplayHDR ratings.
@@vasileiospgr He already mentioned HDR600
@@vasileiospgr yea there's a lot more than just that as well but bluey wasn't going to write out every single difference while already posting where to find the comparisons. 400 nits of brightness is already enough and the only people that will be looking at these monitors 99% of the time are gamers. 400 nits is plenty for gaming there's almost no reason you'll ever need more than 400/450.
Native Nvidia g-sync is huge for some people. the ability to free-sync all the way down to 1fps (or rather if your framerate dips to 25fps it's a big difference). Dell is freesync, while the aleinware may be proper g-sync (although doesn't state)
I bought a Dell G2724D two weeks ago and i enjoy it so much. Perfect monitor for that price.
Tell me more,Im planning on buying one since its on sale now
@@yutum4653 What to say. It is a quality entry monitor into 1440p world with IPS panel and refresh rate 165Hz and really low input lag (tests on Rtings).
All years i was using FullHD 60Hz, three years back i upgraded to 144Hz and now to this piece.
I bought it for $320 (in EU) few days before christmas. I'm satisfied.
your monitor settings please
good monitor for gaming, for office i wouldn't get it, as text clearance is not good, esp. after my 4k LG monitor.. I just downgraded my 4k monitor to dell d2724d, just to get more fps in some games. But maybe there is some tuning on this monitor for better text?
@@milordas I don't use it for office work and i'm not a hardcore user.
You can't generalize all "premium" monitors. Just don't buy a monitor without doing a very extensive research. TH-camrs always make best monitor lists for the price, so it's not that hard to find the best monitor that suits your budget
But he didn't, he just said that not all "premium" monitors are really better than their cheaper budget counterparts, at least not to the point that it's worth the price premium
@@FreshStew I didn't attack him. But also, the title of this video kinda says that premium monitors are a waste of money.
Actually… not that easy at all, I’ve been doing researches for a new monitor for more than a month now and it has been quite the adventure
@@Vandelay666 You probably wouldn't click on it if it said "not all premium monitors are worth buying", just attractive title
you can , all of them are for lulus with no brain
How in the fuck did you bless me with
a video exactly when I was wondering what monitor to buy for my rig?
So glad I found your video, I was so close to buying the Alienware today.
That's why I always use specific websites that do in depth testing. It helps me to make the best choice in what I want in a monitor.
I have the AW2723DF monitor, 1440p 280hz. The low latency and high refresh rate does help me a lot even though it's overkill, but I can thoroughly say its 90% skill when it comes to this. 144hz and an IPS monitor and the rest after that makes very little difference.
to get 280 fps on 1440p is not easy on most games but difference from 144 to 240 is huge
Would you say that between that and something like the pg27aqn is just refresh rate and gsync module? Or is the picture quality and colors improved (even if just a little)
@@raivons of course yeah, 280 I see mainly in competitive games like CSGO, really more like 400-500 but I see 280hz.
@@AnDr3w066 That rog swift monitor looks insane, but picture quality? I have no idea. I know alienware/dell has superb IPS panels but idk anything about asus. Look around some versus/comparison sites or videos
I am considering on buying the G2724D for my PS5 as it is the cheapest and most compatible monitor I could find. It supports VRR which I think will be important as the monitor is 144hz via HDMI and the ps5 only goes up to 120fps.
Is there any chance you could review the koorui gn05. It's a 240hz VA panel that is fairly cheap and people are saying it's an alternative to the 27g1s since that got discontinued
I bought an alienware ultrawide oled monitor this week. Really excited about it to be honest. Adding two 27inch samsung s7 4k monitors for side panels. Gonna be a fine set up

Video request: Best price-performance 4K 120hz monitor on the market?
Frame generation made 4K gaming possible so I'm considering the upgrade and since anything more than 120hz for an average human eye is nothing but a marketing scam gimmick any 120+Hz that's affordable enough works.
I bought a Gigabyte M32UC and I quite like it. Outside of some little clouding it's perfect value. The only problematic factor (at least for some people) is that is a VA panel.
Looks like the Dell one, is just a slightly downgraded version of my "old" S2721DGFA without the blue backlight LED and the USB Hub,
so they could reuse the "old" tech and cut a few corners too, as in the Panel for example, as the S2721DGFA uses an 1st Gen LG Nano IPS Panel,
and have a "new" and cheaper Monitor available...as i paid about 400€ for mine.
@techless please do review the MSI G274QPF monitor and if possible the QD version of it.
Would you recommend the Dell G2724D over the LG 27GP850-B?
Heard the dell monitor was a much better value. Both are good monitors though and pretty similarly matched.
Lenovo 32" 4K60 IPS here, I don't mind about the high refresh rate monitors as I mostly play not so fast-paced games so a solid 60 is more than enough for me.
Bro there is not that much difference at brightness and contrast ratio look at rtings
I've been using dell ultrasharp for about 5 years, the best thing for media content, singleplayer games 60 fps and even for work - they have high contrast ration, especially the 27 4k ultrasharp is amazing
60 Hz is not good. Especially nowadays when you can get wide colour gamut and high refresh rates together, including on 4K.
Hi, can you include mac os also as part of your reviews. It's very hard to find budget monitor for macos and there are very less reviews too.
I'll just say, Im very happy with both of my dell s2721dgf's and have no desire to replace until OLED or micro become more affordable.
Any chance of them becoming more affordable in 2024, my son wants a new screen after his 144hz 1080p MSI IP-screen, probably 34" UW with relatively good HDR with his Radeon 6800XT, but the availability and affordability of micro and OLED seems poor. HDR TVs are too big on his desk.
@@hiriotapa1983 there's a whole bunch of oled monitors that are going to be released in 2024, and they might drop the prices on the current ones when they release. don't take my word for it though, it's just a guess.
2:40 My twin dell U2520D monitors have usb hubs, they have also both been replaced by Dell, since they both failed in the first couple of years...
i just bought the MSI G274QPF-QD and i wanted to ask if its hopefully good? for a 1440p or if i wouldve got something better for 280€

Look at the Dell S2721DGF. I have this monitor and they only made them cheaper now. They removed the blue LED on them and re named them something else for more money. Looks almost identical to the Dell monitor you are showing @0:40.
Is there any seamless monitor so we can setup gaming monitors without bezel in between?
There's weird vertical lines on the Alienware/LG panel monitor as well - look at the Sky 4:29. Dell doesn't show those artifacts at all. Maybe a weird glaze on the monitor?
Good job, hope some manufactures see this video and start realising we are aware of the "Marketing" this days...
@3:33 what is the difference in quality between the lg chevron subpixel layout and the dell?
any thought about the price / value of DELL 2K Ultrasharp ?
Between a qd OLED monitor and an ips one there's such a gap in image quality that the price premium is completely justified, if you're going to use that monitor for it's intended use (mostly gaming).
There's also refresh frequency, connectivity, things such as height adjustable etc that comes into consideration.
So, throwing a blanket statement is poor advice. Rather watch reviews first, make sure you know your usage (gaming, office), think about your context (well lit room, potential sun glare on screen...) and only then narrow down your choice.

I got the G2724D a few weeks ago and it's working great. 165Hz is more than enough, since a lot of games are still locked to either 60 or 120 max and with the price of current GPUs, it's unlikely you're going to be reaching these frames anyway.

Strange, I was thinking the Dell did have RGB. The pictures online make it look like it does? Is it just ambient lighting and angles that make it look like that?
Can anyone who has purchased this confirm whether it has RGB or not?
Im thinking about buying it and I would prefer not having RGB. Trying to go for a clean/minimalist setup.

Can u show us how the image and video quality is compare to OLED monitor in the same price class?
You know that you can increase max brightness and sub brightness in the service menu? By default, max brightness is set to parameter 205 (it can go up to 255), some users after increasing max brightness to 255 were able to see difference in contrast
I have a question so I game on a xbox series s I don't own a pc and need s monitor that both performs well in refresh rate and picture quality and good contrast and brightness I currently game on a msi but I don't think the pictures quality is that good it depends what games I play for some reason any suggestions would be great oh yea I have one pixel that is stuck lol 😂

are there ips monitors with good contrast? i bought a lg ips but the contrast was horrible next to my old monitor
IPS Panels always have way less contrast ratio than VA Panels
just buy a va panel
Never heard of TVP panels. Dells website says its an AU-Optronics panel.
@Techless Can you shine some light on what monitor(s) to buy for my usecase?
I program for my dayjob, And at night I play games. Some examples: Deeprock galactic, total war, fastpaced shooters like Battlefield 2042 and single player story driven games like Mass effect or RDR.
For work, I estimate any refreshrate, any resolution panel that is large enough will do, where a 12:5 or 21:9 wide aspect ratio would be a benefit to have multiple windows open side by side.
OLED colour fringing would be less of an issue in dark mode, but static images are susceptible to burn in, so I guess that will rule out OLED.
OLED seems to be the ideal for gaming as it has fast pixel response times (although arguably less needed in slower paced games). The amazing image quality is a pro, All games benefit from higher refresh rates than productivity work does, wide aspect ratio might add more immersion for games as well.
Since I have a mixed usecase between work and play, and also quite varied genres of games I enjoy, I think a good compromise would be to get a single ultrawide 1440P nano IPS panel of atleast 144hz. IPS doesn't carry a risk of burn-in, which is essential for the productivity work, and are more recommended for a bright room, which my office is.
However, it seems like i'll be giving up so much, deep blacks, crisp images, better HDR implementations, true 10 bit colour, high refresh rates and fast pixel response times.
Could it be better to go with 2 monitors? one cheap ultrawide panel for productivity and a high refreshrate 16:9 OLED panel for gaming?
Maybe even a three monitor setup with 2 cheap 16:9 monitors for productivity and a 16:9 OLED panel for gaming? I'm generally not a fan of bezels, but I guess there are monitors that have minimal bezels, kinda like how that marketing department pictured that alienware.
What do you think would be best for my usecase?
What monitor(s) would you recommend, including monitors no longer being produced and only available secondhand?
Philips 24 165hz cracked panel after minor impact from plastic glass, very flimsy monitor. Dell 24 165 half functional joystick, AOC 27 170hz round 20 stucks pixels brand new.. Acer Predator 25 240hz best monitor i ever had, no problems at all, much better built, colors everything and i bough it for 200 euros brand new on sale, bit older model..
is the new aoc 24g4 good?
I have Alienware AW2723df and it's fucking gorgeus. We compared to G7 VA, well G7 owner was dissapointed.
Another banger vid!
The prices fluctuates a lot. Especially dell. The eventual prices they are willing to sell also depend on their volume and stock levels. I would assume the dell monitor benefits from much higher volume than Alienware. So if you look for bang for your buck, seems like dell monitors might be best. But I guess some people just like the Alienware designs and pay for that.
I wanted to buy dell s2522hg, but my region has alienware aw2523hf only... which is waaaaaay too over priced
i was thinking about buying the alienware anyway, since that's the only option available
your video is making me reluctant now
in brazil dell fixed this by rising their price on the g2724d
Ok now what if i want a WQHD OLED 240hz panel?
this dell costs like $350 usd in my country sigh
the cost was similar in my country, i still think the dell is a better option, so the cost savings isn't really a factor
I believe another important difference between the two monitors is the panel bit depth. The Dell has 8 bits while the Alienware has 10 bits (8bits + 2 FRC) which I think has to do with the colors. (Dell 16.8 million colors vs Alienware 1.07 billion colors)
