River authority's used to dredge rivers and dump it out at sea. Our local river was 15 feet deep when I was very young, now it's only 4 feet deep and you can see the bottom.
Exactly. This is the same argument for forest fires, Dead wood and managing of forestry used to be common practice. Creating fire breaks, so if a fire was to start it would be isolated to a small area. Now, due to "green" creating fire breaks is bad, but fires spreading uncontrollably, which does hundreds of times the damage compared to fire breaks. Is some how the better option Who would have thought, that preventative measures actually work, and removing such measures, just like river dredging. Makes it worse
You're right - and after he's signed the trade deal with India which will no doubt benefit his family and the family of his wife as well as allowing thousands and thousands more Indians to enter our country.
Flooding happens when developers are allowed to build houses on flood plains. They are called flood plains for a reason. When a river floods the flood plains absorb the water. If you build houses on flood plains the water cannot be absorbed so it will keep running through streets and other concreted areas until it reaches an incline and there it will stay till the build up of more water behind it pushes it on further.
Watched a documentary about the railways, apparently it cost us 65 billion more to run it ,since it was sold off ,it would have been cheaper to leave it in the hands of British rail
I am seventy,I remember people moaning about the railways sixty years ago, they were three times as big then carried most of the countrys freight and truth be told passengers(less car ownership). Appparently they are more efficient under privatisation. Bunkum ! They are more usless now than they have ever been. An exercise in asset stripping started with Marples around1960 and has continued ever since. It would not surprise me if the railways cost the taxpayer MORE under privatisation than they did when they were nationalised. Who is getting the money ? It’s interesting to see when even the Murdoch publications switch their allegiances because even they know the Tories are going to get hammered in the next election. They always like looking as though they have their fingers on the pulse.
The taxpayer is currently paying about 60% of the running costs of the railways, if railways didn't get this support the cost of tickets would be at least double.
@@kevlacy5306Garbage. The taxpayer is subsidising passengers who should be paying the proper cost of their ticket. We have this very peculiar idea in this country that somebody else should pay for our travel. No wonder we're up it without a paddle
Disagree. If the ‘ordinary people’ could travel by helicopter would it retain its appeal for Sunak? Harry Enfield did a brilliant Southbank style biopic which managed to enlist Michael Portillo. Describing a fictitious career politician he relates how the Tories were delighted to have someone on the privatisation committee that had actually been on a train.
Just to clarify railway revenues are now higher then pre pandemic amounts but because they are adjusted for inflation and like most things revenue has not been able to keep up so the reported figures is lower. Also the amount of money they say the state adds is more then repaid by the £45B of value added economic benefits to the wider economy railways bring. Sunak really needs to get a grip snd understand that.
What do you expect from someone that has used government/RAF private aircraft for hoping around the UK and abroad MORE than any other PM in recent histor, incl. his predecessor 'the clown'. If the groundwork for HS2 Phase 1 wasn't so far advanced, he'd have cancelled that too. we'll not get a High Speed line, delivered late & over budget, that goes from the suburbs of London and doesn't reach it's destination. Sunak hates that rail costs the government money and only benifits 'poor' people not the wealth (like him).
Considering the population is growing exponentially due to the continued open doors policy its no wonder things get worse every year - the NHS will crumble, public transport will crumble etc. etc. we need net zero immigration.
Hmm...I think we can't have growth AND net zero immigration as we rely on immigration to fuel growth as our native population is aging. But immigration needs to be much better handled and targeted at filling high value jobs across the country instead of opening the door to vast numbers of unskilled workers who all settle in one area with no integration or policing leading to native flight leading to huge areas of the country becoming drug-haven ghettos. My own Asian neighbours are kind hardworking people and I wouldn't have them any other way but sadly the rest of the town has been allowed to slide into a litter-filled pit of drugs, money laundering and impoverished despair. We do need a government that will tackle this compassionately instead of turning the population against each other in a way that will lead to interracial violence.
@@fionaholland9191 We have always relied on immigrant labour to keep the country running. There is a responsibility on the authorities to prevent avoidable flooding by dredging and general management but we know these monies are being spent on diversity hiring and training.
Before you start blaming diversity or people of colour take a hArd look at yourself and ask why there are 9 million people on benefits and three quarters are native Brits
@Fontana-sb9ui You mean black or brown people? No one refers to themselves as "people of colour." It's ridiculous and clumsy And greedy billionaires importing cheap, obedient, foreigners to drive down wages is the reason many people don't work.
I have no time for the rail system. I would never gamble a holiday or any important trip by using the train. We book a hotel the day before our flight which usually works out the same as the train cost wise. And they come with parking for the two week holiday etc. unions are a bloody pain in the arse and rail staff need to get arses back in work.
Government are so disconnected to transport. Just take a look at Japan. Everything runs on time, it’s clean and efficient. What’s wrong in our country everything fails runs or doesn’t run in most cases. Big companies get paid billions to and even when they are failing. Majority at the top pay themselves and don’t care about the everyday person. It’s disgusting in every aspect. Public would use it if it was more affordable. Stop putting up fairs for one and treat staff who deal with the public with a fair wage.
Strange as when Chancellor he paid the train workers FULL PAY for 2 years! Maybe those workers should repay the 20% extra above the rest who only received 80% of their pay! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Rail workers continued work as normal through the pandemic, as services HAD to run, both to get key workers to their jobs and to distribute freight around the UK as usual. Those staff were paid for actually doing the job they're paid for, not twiddling their thumbs at home.
I HAVE DISTAIN FOR Railways.... Specifically rail workers earning 2 to 3 times the national average wage. Then complaining that they do not get paid enough.
