  • Hobby came tutorial from Rockfish Studios, this is a video for fellow glass enthusiasts. I started working with hobby came about a year ago, and I could find nothing to help me see how it is used. This is an informational video to give an idea how to use hobby came, pre-tinned wire, and how to attach silverware to your glass creations.

    I have no glass mentors and no supplies or classes in my town. (Except Hobby Lobby) This video was so very helpful. I feel like I just got many years of experience after watching. Thanks for sharing your talent and skills! Much appreciated.

    I think your idea of repurposing a silver handle on an old spoon is really phenomenal to say the least. What a way to bring back those lovely forged items into a pure piece of art. I am so impressed until I watched you make such lovely dragon fly lines today. Thank you so much for sharing and enlightening the stained glass hobbiest, like me, with truly inspirational pieces. :)

    I've been doing stained glass for 2 years and until now, wasn't aware hobby came existed, yet have seen pieces finished with it and wondered how they got it to look so perfect. You answered that and have inspired me to give it a try. Thank you! :)

    Watching this I was thinking two things. 1: I'm glad she also showed how to do those veins, because my guess was completely wrong. 2: It is a miracle she isn't burning herself on that soldering iron crossover technique :)

    Thank you for all the good info specially to foil the spoon and on the back of the spoon adding wire between wings will help to fill up the gap with solder. I learned to use hobby cane but my problem is, I don't get a nice shiny silver finish, or it doesn't take the black patina well. Could you share how do you do it please? Thank you.

    Is there a reason you don't tin the edges before you put the hobby came on?

    • @rockfishstudios4006
      @rockfishstudios4006  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Because we are taught to tin, right? Except, we are not always even, and if there is a lump, etc in your tinning, the snug hobby came won't fit over. I have had no issues without tinning. I never tin anything I plan to use the hobby came with. But I do flux- AFTER the came is on. And be caredul not to go over the edges with the flux, or your solder may run over your lead sides.
