- Is the Lenovo T440 the best budget laptop for students? It's certainly a great price and once you install Windows 10 or Linux on it, it's a stable laptop with a comfortable keyboard. The trackpad can be a bit unresponsive at times but this laptop is a bargain at under $200 Canadian

The other thing about the T440 you didn’t mention is that if can easily and cheaply be upgraded.

I never use the trackpad to select. Just use a two finger tap to "right click". No need to depress the pad. Also the case and keyboard are practically indestructible.
I have the T440p which I assume has the same trackpad. I hate how deep the click is on the trackpad(I think everyone does) however I don't have that unresponsiveness that you have. No issue at all accurately moving the cursor no matter what part of the pad I use. I think the one in this video may be faulty. The top layer of the pad is just a sticker and can wear away overtime and become unresponsive.
apparently you can put in a T430 track pad which I hear works better. The YouTune channel Laptop Retrospectives has done a video on it I think

So funny story why I'm here, back in 2013 I bought a MacBook pro, and it lasted me 7 years! Anyways I just bought a T490 and I was curious about how it would hold up over the same amount of time.

what do you think of the google suite for docs, sheets and slides as a replacement for office 365 or libre on this machine?
any or all will work. I like google docs and office 365 personally. I use both almost dailly
The Lenovo T440 outshines newer laptops that cost hundreds and is much more reliable and durable. To use the word "crappy" in any description of the T440 is an insult to this legendary workhorse of a machine.
I also have seen many laptops in my 30 years of computer repair. Most do not live up to their claims. They are flimsy, made cheap and are EXPENSIVE! Touch screens are for tablets not laptops, so don't waste your hard earned money on a touch screen. It is a shame that today's consumers are duped into buying...might I say, newer CRAPPY laptops that have short life spans.
Remember this little tidbit...A pre-owned laptop is like a pre- owned car. Why spend a fortune for the latest model when you can acquire an older model with all the same bells and whistles for less.
I agree with you about the car statement. I often compare computer modding to car modding. You can upgrade certain component etc. But my biggest issue with the T440 is it's trackpad and mediocre screen. I also have a x240 which is one of my couch computers. I really like it except for that crappy trackpad. I find that the T450 was a huge jump up when it came to the trackpad. My daily driver is a T450s running Windows 10 Pro and it's a great all around computer.
I just wanted to ask you or anyone else who uses t440s what battery life it gives after 5 or 6 years im looking to buy one
@@MikeDancy I recently brought this computer as a "beater" laptop since I plan(ned if this virus doesn't go away!) to return to school next year. Except for the screen, I must say that It was the best 200$ I've spent in a long time. You can easily upgrade the trackpad for about 50$.

1: does it come in an quad-core/ i7?
2: does it have a pcie Wifi card (am thinking eGPU/exp beast dock)?
3: is the ssd m.2 or sata?
4: would you recommend a T440 for price/performance, am thinking as a (Triple Boot) Linux Machine (w/ macos mojave & win10 too)?
5: what is a good price?
essentially, i was thinking of using an a music performance device (only for busking) so the dual battery situation would be intriguing, was also thinking of an X240, any comparative notes would be greatly appreciated if you've ever worked with an X240

Is the battery removable?
Just bought this device. I have few questions:
- Does it have extra RAM slot? I have 4GB RAM installed in it. I want to add another 4GB RAM. Is it possible?
- Can we add two hard drives? It doesn't have CD Rom.
yes, I believe that it has two ram slots, one might be under the keyboard. and I'm not sure about a second hdd, I dont' think that it can unless it's a nve2?
have two slot, but one slot not upgrade because is fixed the 4gbram

with the two 3 cell batteries, I'm getting between 5-6 hours just doing email / web surfing / spreadsheets etc.
Buy a 6 cell. With the on board battery and the 6 cell you can get about 8 or 9 hours!

Depends on the games, if you like pac man or candy crush the it's great.

Yes. It’s a great machine. But get a mouse. The track pad sucks.
its amazing, i got an t440s with the same config for study and casual games, i can play cs go for example with 45'~~60 fps easly. great machine

Love everything about the laptop, except for the display... I'm not too sure if it's just me but, sadly the font of the laptop is way too small, and yes, I've tried making it bigger, but however, it only affects the font in apps like Google Chrome, I just want to know if changing my operating system to an older version like windows 8 will help with this matter, as it is rather irritating and very disappointing, love lenovo laptops though!
Have you checked to see if it’s a driver issue? I think that generation had both an Intel graphics card or a nvidia graphics card to choose from. How is it when you output it to another screen? Is it a resolution issue ?
@@MikeDancy Ohh yes, actually mine doesn't support the 1920x1080, it uses the resolution 1600x900, as I remember. Maybe that's why the font is small, since when I switched to different resolutions lower than it, the font was larger but much blurrier. Maybe the solution is to get a better display panel.
So Mike how can I plug this laptop to my tv so I can use tv as monitor?
I forget if it uses a mini display port but if so, that's what you would use. then connect that to a HDMI connector. It's easier to just get a VGA monitor though.
I'M CONFUSED BETWEEN 'THIS LENOVO' AND THE 'HP ELITEBOOK 840 G2'
Lenovo’s are good for Linux and have an excellent docking station that’s cheap. Hp docks cost more but that is a nice machine. I’d take the Lenovo personally though. They can take a beating.
820 g2 has a 5th gen processor. so go for it

Depends if you plan on setting it up with a docking station. I’d probably take the Lenovo over the Dell though.. but I really dislike the T/X fourth gen touchpad. So if it was just a part time machine sitting on my lap then I’d take the dell. But if I had to use it all day, I’d take the Lenovo. I like it’s keyboard better.

they are pretty good but I'd suggest getting a docking station to make it easier.

If youre just making graphics with Canva or something simple then it shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't use it for video editing though.

It's using the same processor as the surface pro 3, and I use one for Ableton and it runs fine, so yeab it should work fine.
Is it expandable? Ssd?
you can add a SSD into that model pretty easily.

it's probably not too bad but it's certainly not great. make sure you have 8GB of ram in there

I have this it is so ass, the video quality is 360p for a TH-cam video and it can’t run any game like Fortnite, GTA, and basically every single game even mobile games. WORST LAPTOP EVER
That’s why there’s another laptop called gaming laptop. Duh
What- I use this as well and i can run gta fine. The max yt vid quality is 1080p and most games work well. Im not sure how many free v-bucks apps you've installed there but i'd recommend you try reinstalling windows
