I'm still using L430 I upgraded from i5 3210m to i7 3630qm /8gb ram /256ssd/500gb mechanical drive/motherboard with nvidia nvs 5400m/intel hd4000 and It works like a charm using windows 10 enterprise 20h2

8:05 that's why I prefer to buy ThinkPads instead of a MacBook or a Dell laptop.
ThinkPads are probably the probably the easiest to take apart without having to pry everything open because of glue or being worried because the manufacturer used different sizes screws in every hole on their machines.

Steve Thea I mean, Dell is decent, especially for the time period, but almost no laptop nowadays really is. The A1181 and A1342 Macbooks and the t-series of thinkpads are really the best. I own an SL510

Older Thinkpads are the best. Sadly with the newest lineup there's less incentive to open up the laptop since they soldered the RAM. At least you can still upgrade your SSD (if they stayed that way until further iterations...)

I have three, Lenovo T440p laptops. my "gamer" has FHD. the other two, are 1600x900, and are actually good enough for my purposes.
All have 16gb, PC3-12800 ram
500gb Samsung EVO 860 SSD
1tb 7200rpm HDD in ODB.
2 out of the 3 have nVidia GT730m Graphics.
My DD has Intel i7-4700mq
One has i7-4600.
One has Intel i5-4210.
I once forgot my i5 T440p on my car roof, out of the case. It fell off and hit the driveway as I was pulling out. Most laptops wouldn't survive that impact. The T440p, not only survived with only minor scrapes and bruises, it still functions perfectly.
The T440p is the easiest to maintain, most reliable laptop ever built. I rebuild laptops, probably 400+ every year, and I choose the T440p as my DD. That says something for it.
Is it even possible to get a motherboard with the GeForce GT 730M on it? Bastard tricked me on Amazon, but I do like the t440p overall.
@@jokerace8227 Yep! All of mine have the GeForce GT730m. They cost more though. IMHO, worth the price.
@@dragunovbushcraft152 It was just under $200, so I'm not complaining too much. There are some on Amazon trying to sell used ones for several times that without the 730M graphics. lol
They don't seem all that special in photos, but the T440 does feel better built than any other laptops I've owned. It is military spec.
@@jokerace8227 I wouldn't pay more than $225 with nVidia graphics. You can even find them for around the $200 mark on Ebay. You can FREQUENTLY find the oned with HD4600 graphics for around $160 pretty frequently. The T440p isn't just a "one trick pony" either. You can upgrade virtually everything but the video in them. I'm typing on my 16gb/M.2 SATA/500gbSamsung EVO/ with IPS, and nVidia, right now. :)

I don't think that it is possible to change the intel hd graphics. There is a built-in Nvidia GT730M in my T440p. If you want to use external gpu, I think that you may use the wifi card slot to connect an external gpu card. Thanks,

Ended up just getting a T440s instead. I would have preferred the T440p, but couldn’t find one in my price range that had the upgraded 1080p screen, etc. also T440s was a good choice because of the touchscreen and it was fully maxed out so I don’t have to do anything further.

I stuffed a 4910mq into mine. Fast as heck, but I DID have to do a pile of thermal mods and undervolting to keep it from catching fire. :) But WOOOO WEEE was it worth it! Plus, three SSD's. One for OS, two dedicated purely to swap. Needless to say, it's smoking fast. One of the nicest machines I've ever owned and almost perfect FreeBSD support. (For me at least)
I still use mine, though I'm getting ready to upgrade to a T480. It's a great machine still, my only complaint compared to newer laptops is its weight.

Seriously? I'd suggest doing a little strength exercise if 4.6lbs is getting too much for you. Don't know what you use your T440p for, but for most tasks (internet, email, word processing, spreadsheets, photo editing, etc..) the common software is just not designed to take best advantage of or even use multiple cores at once. The T440p M series processor cores are actually faster than the T480's U series processor cores. Meaning most of your software will still run faster on the T440p. Mind you, I'm a fan of the T480. I have one, but not because it is faster nor for the whole 10oz of weight savings. But I guess if you're really feeble that 10oz is paramount.
Is there anyway you may update description with links to buy the upgrades?
What would you suggest? A T440p orrr a P50? Especially for video editing.
Inno, very nice video, I recently bought a t440p and I want to update some things, see: why do you see 2 video adapters? ... can you place an illuminated keyboard, which model would it be? ... which is the best dockstation for this model? .. . Any more updates than those in your video that I can recommend? thanks
T440p comes with an intel built-in video adapter. Some higher-end models come with an additional Nvidia GT730M.
I am sorry that I have no idea about the illuminated keyboard. My one came with a backlight keyboard.
I am using the docking station 40A2 (16:48) because it has HDMI and display ports. Also, the price of a second-hand docking station is not high in my country.
Maybe you can try to upgrade your bulky A/C adapter to a lightweight GaN adapter. This is the video I made in 2019.
Newsday the should be more high-performance GaN adapters in the market. (100W or 120W PD)

The tool used is for opening a notebook or mobile, which is a common tool in my country.

W540/541 are good machines, which have optional 3k display, better built-in graphics card, more memory slots, keyboard with Numpad and Express card expansion slot for external GPU card, etc.
Hey, I am also looking to buy 1, currently if i can find Full HD IPS, if not I will have to decide between T440S and lower resolutions, T540P might be considered as well.
Search for B140HAN1.0 (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4) they are all supposed to be full 16.2 million colors. 1.0 has the highest contrast ratio. Any 30 pin eDP should work. The t440p can have the CPU upgraded. I wouldn't bother with cheaper t440 models, the CPUs are soldered to the motherboard.
Such a good vid, I have a replacement Palm rest arriving soon, so I will use this to figure out which screws I need to remove. Is there a cable that needs to be disconnected for the power button?

Was wondering if I should give up my current laptop for a thinkpad... Then i found out about the potentially 3 internal drives and I'm sold
It's a shame the batteries in these machines are growing old and dying, I've already gone through three batteries and the current one I have only has charge for 20 minutes. Thinking of getting a more modern machine to have a newer battery.
You can open them up and re-solder the cells inside of the battery. But I would just buy a brand new battery, it will cost some money but it's worth it.
if this lenovo nvidia has 2gb I would buy it, nice simple and relax video :3

A MicroCenter by my job is selling this laptop for $430 the specs are: Intel Core i7-4600U Processor 2.1GHz; 12GB RAM; 512GB Solid State Drive; Intel HD Graphics 4400. I should probably get that right?

get a model without discrete gpu and get a i7 4910mq. Also swap hdd for ssd and m.2 sata or you could get a m.2 connector to pcie gpu convertor. And the fan can also be updated as it fit the one made nvida gpu model, it just had better thermal capacity. Get the backlit keyboard its much better
Hi, I've upgraded from i5 4300M to i7 4702MQ on my T440P too, I'm satisfied with the gain performance but it doesn't Turboboost to 3.2 Ghz, it's limited to 2.9 Ghz. This is with a 90W adapter. With Throttlestop I'm able to set it to 3.1 Ghz, but not 3.2. Have you got same results? BTW, 2.9 Ghz Turboboost seems enough performance IMO.
With CPU power management enabled in bios, the issue has gone. This allows 3.2 ghz Turboboost on one core for i7 4702MQ.

Upgradeing to the i7-4702MQ processor means you give up the AMT/vPRO feature... why not choose 4800MQ ?

So I'll have to buy the upgrades altogether to not get burned by the cost of shipping and tax. We'll see. I'm still on the research stage tho so I'm not in a hurry :)

fl studio should work completely fine, 4c/8t is more than enough, anything more than 2 cores is good for that. Many producers still use 2012-13 MacBook's pro's which have dual core cpu's

No. I just use the display driver from Lenovo ThinkVantage.

I've bought random hdd caddy to install into dvd drive and fried my t440p. Beware of installing random stuff! After I bought replacement motherboard I suspect bluetooth is dead on replacement. How BT is done on t440p? Is it on WLAN card?
So atm I'm stuck with 128GB ssd and that's it! Most other stuff is there (IPS, i7 CPU, 130W PSU), but the battery is 20-30 minutes (small one) and scarce storage space are few minor bummers.
As far as I can tell, many praise t440p as nice hackintosh. As far as raw power goes, my t440p runs as fast as newest crop of computers ( by sacrificing portability though). It's even faster than my desktop!
I am not sure about bluetooth issue because I did not use BT devices. I suppose that BT is included with Wifi module.
Last week, I bought a new M.2 SSD for hackintosh installation, which is for testing purpose. So far it works great, but waiting for the new wifi dongle. Also I cannot boot up hackintosh on docking station. Not sure kexts or other problems.

new hdd or sdd are generally not formated. If you connected it as a second drive, you can format the new unit in disk manager, then the drive will be ready to be used and install new OS.

yes i was thinking about upgrade but when i calculate total price i changed my mind and instead find dell inspiron 7567 used ones but i got very lucky the unit i got is sealed never openned and used very little dell 7567 is miles better specially with GTX 1050ti i only upgrade ram to 16GB on this machine i tested few games new ones like farcry newdawn battlefield V , pubg , dota2 with high to mid graphics setting very playable and also use it for autodesk maya and blender ..

How are the viewing angles and colors on the new display?
The viewing angles are almost 180 degree and the colors are vivid on the new IPS display.

I think that the FHD IPS panel (1920*1080) will NOT work on T440, which support 1366*768 or 1600*900 TN Panel only.

Inno Peace IPS panels work just fine in the T440 - I’ve done it myself. I think the confusion comes from the fact that it wasn’t originally an option for these machines.

The cheapest RAM is whatever is most common. So as RAM gets outdated, it is made less, and can go up in price. When it first comes out it is high in price because not many people have it in their systems. The one that sells the most is always the cheapest. It is now switching from DDR3 to DDR4 being the cheapest.

Also, all run Windows 8.1Pro, with "Classic Shell". I'm not a fan of Win10 on these computers.
