Mark Knopfler fascinates me - his personality and his wicked but humble sense of humor, and of course his crazy-big talent. He is a showman up there, but not a show-off. Big difference in those two. He's fun to watch because he is having so much damn fun doing what he does. And those facial expressions, too. I would love to know the man personally. I watch his live performances over and over again, not only for the stellar music, but also to watch his expressions and how he interacts with his band and also the audience. He is easy to love. Yes, he does seem to be slowing down just a teensy bit, but of course the man is 74 years old now so I think he's doing very well, thank you very much. I wish he could live forever and keep on doing what he's been doing since the late 70's.
Yes.
I met Mark backstage in the early nineties, there is is and old saying, never meet your hero's. and it proved true.
Macca , jagger , rod , still looking better than ever , still making babies ….. you are as old as you feel
I love to see this iconic wise man making a great metamorphosis. Since he had ended his last tour which I had joined, he opened up completely like a fresh flower in spring towards interviewers. A thing which he had hated from the 70-90ties. It's never too late Mark, cause you are such a nice guy!

Felt honoured to have attended the event in London. A great experience to see 'the master' yet again...
He's like a cheeky gramps who you know lived a full life but doesn't give anything away. If it wasn't on film you'd have no idea he's a music genius legend. Love him!
More comfortable than ever in his own skin - and it shows with this album and the last one. Wise, mature thoughtful measured all comes across in the songs, the lyrics and the playing
A moving piece of work Deep River is amazing
You have great taste
Greatest guitarist, fabulous songwriter, Mark deserves a knighthood.
Sono più di d'accordo con te ❤🦁🎸 18:17
He's probably declined.
Good to see the man inside the legend. Long live Mark, and what a great record! The atmosphere you and your band can produce is priceless.
Mark Knopfler is pure genius
There are many good musicians. And there is Mark Knopfler.
Never forgot were he came from! Love this down to earth man and his beautifull music. Travells with me all my life. Hero.
Great to hear the new album and hear him talk about it in this way. It was lovely to meet him and play some jazz for him and some of his friends many years ago at the Papillon restaurant in Corbridge. Albeit a very brief meeting, he came across as a lovely guy.
Thank you 💯 for posting the whole conversation, as promised. ❤, Carin
I love this fantastic man!!!❤🎸❤🎶🎸🎶
He IS a treasure, that's for sure. One of the BEST! Besides his music, I love how humble he is. He's one of the greatest out there, but he is so very unassuming and approachable. H's in it for the music and the fans, NOT for the celebrity factor. Just an ordinary guy who found his dream and shared it with the world.
Enjoyed this interview. Mark Knopfler seems very down to earth and humble man. Incredible man.
He looks he's in a good place, I'm so happy for him. Thanks for all the music and joy, sir.
One of my favourite guitarist's and a wonderful and truly great songwriter. Good luck to you Mark.
Mark is so so funny!!! Great interview! Thank you for sharing!!! I Love Mark's songs, 🎶 ❤
Wow - nice to hear mark off the cuff, not re-telling stock stories.
Still fascinated by that guitar playing - out on its own in terms of that Q-factor.
Atmospheric storytelling is in his blood and in his bones.
He's never been shy of helping guitarists . A Gentleman through and through xxx
It should be Sir Mark . Xx
Just a fantastic fella .
Allways a Joy xx
Still to shy I guess 💕💕
Thank you Mark for sharing your life of ups and downs Your music is a Delight ✌️❤️
I love when MK said, “I would never write that song” and why he said it. So intelligent.
The man …great guitarist/singer/songwriter extraordinaire…we salute you brother ! 🎸🇺🇸🇬🇧
I listen to this album everyday. Another great record by Knopfler.
I know he probably will never go on tour again but I sincerely hope that he'll keep making music
Thank you Mark Knopfler for the music thank you 🎶🎸☮️🍀♥️ and the care 👍💯🍀♥️ lovely greetings from Sachsen Germany 💕☮️🍀♥️ lovely greetings and the Guy Fletcher 👍💯🍀♥️
Enjoying the new album. No skips and a great listen. Mark's songs aways have an interesting story. Tunnel 13 and the line about the rosewood and his guitar, just brilliant.
Ladies and gentleman ther is MK ! CHAPEAU.
What alse.
Not too many interviews out there with ya man! It's nice to hear you talk! I like to put a face with the music I am listening to occasionally, so thanks! Ya look and sound great! Thanks for the wonderful music!
Nice and funny interview, Mark! I like the 9:13, it made me laugh because I'm slow just like you. Some of the already recorded music is still waiting over 30 years in my archive and I still think about it.
He has a song on the album “Down The Road Wherever” called Slow Learner. It’s a really slow song, almost like you’d hear in a small late night jazz club. One of my favourite songs of his.
I agree with you about the New Caledonian Orchestra. Fantastic, I still listen to the live CD. Thanks for the interview. You are my hero!
Não tem jeito...sempre fico emocionada escutando o Mark! Que Deus o proteja sempre! Amo! ❤🌹🎸🎸🇧🇷
I love my 2 LP album. Every song is beautiful and meaningful. ❤
My all time local hero.
Thank You for the music!
Thanks for your great music over the years.
Knopfler is the most prolific songwriter on Earth. To expand on Mark's comment regarding studios or film companies wanting to own the copyright on everything....he's a perfect example for you. I made Natural History & Wildlife Films for 20 years. My ex was the cinematographer (multiple Emmy Award winner) and I was his camera assistant & Sound Recordist. (I always said.....remember, without sound, it's only surveillance) 😂 anyway, we worked freelance for BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, WNET/NY, IMAX, etc, etc. Sometimes we produced our own stuff, yet even if it was our idea these companies because they funded it. They want to own it. So, the BBC was buying some stock footage from us for X amount of $$. I always handled the office stuff, budgets, packing, permits, etc. So, I had set a price per second of footage, we had negotiated NA rights, European rights, Asia, etc. , TV, theatrical, CD, blah, blah. Everything was good to go. The BBC sends me the contract to sign. I carefully read it over and see they had added a clause: "and all medias not yet invented" I rubbed my eyes and couldn't believe the cheekiness of sneaking this clause in a contract we had already agreed upon. I didn't even mention it to my ex and he was probably off hunting or doing somethiung anyway. So, I struck the clause, initialed it, signed the contract and sent it back. The BBC called and said they never received the contract. They sent another, I did the exact same thing. They said they never got it. They sent another, I did the exact same thing. I don't know if they thought thye could wear me down or that I had a bad memory?
I sent the contract back with the clause struck for the 3rd time and this time they gave up, signed it and the deal was done. So, whenever I think of the BBC, it's always with a bad taste in my mouth knowing what slime balls they really are underneath it all. So, when they went on in history to put 5, 8 & 10 year old pictures into current news stories , till they were called out, it was obvious all ethics had flown out the window. Nowadays all the Mainstream Networks are rat bags and shoot green screen and pretend reporters are in the field when they aren't. I was happy to eventually walk away from 'the business of film making.'
Content with having traveled the world and acquired many fabulous memories and a few good friends. Sorry for the ramble!
Thanks for taking the time to document this. Very interesting insight
The one and only, The man, The greatest, Mark Knopfler ❤❤❤
Thank you, it is wonderful to be able to listen to MK☺️😘🎸❤️
I am 16 born and living in Portugal earing all sorts of modern music trash that there are. But I was lucky not to go down that path.
Since I remember my dad's ring tone was and still is Sultans of Swing and for a big part of these 16 years that was the only song i actually knew from Dire Straits and I've always loved it, but I had never given it much tought. 6 or so years ago I started getting more into music and giving more attention to the guitar since I had finally get my parents to buy me a white squire that I have right here by my side, I heard a lot of rock country blues more recently jazz and classical but someday I heard Brothers In Arms and I thought:
-Man this guys are amazing!
A couple of time passed and I ended up looking out for more direstraits songs and got to learn a bit about the band online. I fell in love with their music:
Sultans, Brothers in Arms, Romeo and juliet, Money for Nothing, Telegraph road, Tunnel of Love just to name a few of the absolute masterpieces this man and is collegues had written
Then I started whatching more stuff from Mark itself. And Mark is just a wonderfull person, a true hero of Music still humble despite all the fame and noble until today.
My biggest sorrow up until know is that I will never get to see neither Mark nor DireStraits live... but I will keep telling my friends about the best rock band of all time (at least for me) and the greatest man to ever play the guitar.
Mark if you read this Thank You.
Circular moments... how fantastic to be backing the Everly Bros while they played Why Worry! Can you imagine what it would be like to be backing MK while he played your song?
Good morning from Hollywood... I'm a 40 year MK FAN.... 🎉
That One more matinee is hellova song. And my big sister introduced me to Dire Straits 😄, 40y ago.

He looks great for his age. Truly. Better than when he was so young and skinny, IMO.
There's a lot of Great 👍 artist 🎨 out there..but one Mark KNOPFLER ✨!! Lol 🇺🇸
Paul pronounced his surname correctly at long last. The K is silent but not the P!
Einfach nur ein Genie mit einer tollen Ironie 🧡💛🧡

Good interview, so thanks. Curious about the use here of wireless hand held microphones, when for most interviews, wireless lavaliere types are the general choice. Why force your interviewer and subject to hold microphones throughout the interview process?
❤
ahead of the game 🎉🎉🎉
many thanks to you
💜🙏🙏🙏🎼🎸🎤👏
❤❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏😊
"If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans." Brilliant.
We want a new tour , stadium or arena preferably with GA not seats on the floor pls
Sé que usted no debe ser el promotor pero la música le debe un disco homenaje a Sir Mark Freuder.
Saludos.
Can’t get JJ out of his head!
This is righteous and it made me smile
