My dad used to say that emergency was the best time in his lifetime. Honest people got a better life that time.
It is freedom versus discipline.
There was no freedom at all, in colleges, offices and other public places. The discipline & order depends on the person who executes.
Now, I explain further on your remark. There were good officers made use of it for betterment. There were bad officers abused for their position.

The incident of emergency was, though unpleasant, an isolated political aberration deeply and duly regretted by Indira, the icon of the toiling masses a leader of global stature and charisma. By nature Indira was unfailing and unflinching in her devotion and commitment to the constitutional and democratic values. She duly subjected herself to the punishment by the electorate and respectfully accepted the mandate that subsequently went against her.This graceful behaviour enabled her to bounce back to power with a majestic majority. The leader of her quality and stature is rare in our living memory.

The Emergency was a blessing in disguise for the common man. The government offices worked well. The officials were responsive and did their jobs well and timely. This has not happened either before or after! The blemishes were committed mostly by a coterie of partymen who took advantage.

Shashi Tharoor is no more extraoerdinaire parliamentarian. He has become just a little above average. His wit and reasoning has jaded. Definitely he is knowledgeable and commands a treasury of experience. But in an open forum nowadays he can easily be flayed by Sai Deepak, Annamalai &few others. In one forum a few years ago it was totally embarrassing to see Sashi completely over run by Sai Deepak. After that Tharoor avoid Sai. And in a recent forum, Sashi cleverly averted a clash with Annamalai by arriving early and rushing out before Annamalai appeared. Sashi Thaaror is still relevant. But he is past tense.

Emergency declared by Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi is the darkest period in the history of Independent India. It should be syllabus of History, Political Science, Social Science and Journalism. Congress party cannot hide away this darkest period when about 2 lakh political activists, students and teenagers were thrown into jails and many persons died. Indira Gandhi buried the Constitution of India and the Supreme Court made subservient to her.
What about the undeclared emergency of 3+10 years which has become unbearable now
Estimated Rs 1.35 Lakhs crores was spent on 2024 general elections . 543 M Ps were installed with salaries and allowances .
Cost of running the parliament per minute is said to be 2.5 lakhs.

Was Emergency declared as per the clauses that are laid down by Constitution, as to the circumstances under which only the Emergency can be declared or was it declared purely for the selfish needs of the then PM to save her post/Government? It was both undemocratic and unconstitutional and inhuman.. and what more insulting and inhuman is that party saying it happened in the past and to move on.. with no remorse or apologies or condolences to the sufferers/victims of Emergency.. sheer shamelessness, audacity and dictator mindset..
Recently also during the election campaigns Priyanka was heard saying my mother sacrificed her mangalsutra for nation, my father passed away and my grand mother did this and that.. that also happened in the past.. then y didn’t they move on and shut their mouth about it.. they mentioned their past again and again for sympathy.. even in Raebareli and Amethi Campaigns.. now after elections and when it came to Emergency Day matter, it’s all in the past..
