    I’m petite with apple shape. Always appreciate videos showing the looks you’re talking about.

    In both examples 1 & 2, you've worn a very contrasting top to the slacks. That makes a short girl (I'm also only 5 feet tall) look even shorter. Go for a less contrasting top and we'll look taller because there is no visual line dividing us. Example: Black slacks with a black top or even a gray top. You can even wear lighter colors and not look bigger IF the top and bottom are closer in color rather than contrasting. 👍👍

      I was about to say the same. And those tops are very boxy and it looks like you have no waist at all. If you opened up those cardigans and may be wore a shirt same colour as the pants inside, then you would get longer lines and even fool people into thinking you have a waist. And even if you don't have one, put a belt on it anyway, when you have a cardigan or jacket over, it really gives an illusion of having a small waist. My short best friend does it all the time.

    Great content, thank you. Your side by side comparisons are so helpful. A few years ago I started sewing my own clothing. That was when I really figured out my own proportions. I had to measure everything…not just hips, waist, bust but the vertical as well. I found that my petite stature is mainly due to a short distance between my shoulders and my bust line. Even if you don’t sew, do those vertical measurements- natural waist to crotch, bust to natural waist, waist to ankle, you get the concept. Now you are armed with valuable information to help you make wise purchases.

    The first point... the rise! Petite clothes makers seem to think that we only have short legs. They don't proportion things out so the bodies are too long, the shoulders are too wide and the sleeves are too long!

    • @carolj.peppaswilliams5207
      @carolj.peppaswilliams5207 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What about white capri denims for summer? Are they ok for petittes?

    • @nekeon
      @nekeon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@carolj.peppaswilliams5207 Legs usually are also proportionate. Capris or 7/8 cropped pants are made for people with average height. As a 4'10" person when I wear a pair of these the length might be somewhat okay but the cut still indicates that the knee would sit in the middle of my lower leg. This especially does not work if pants have some type of special pattern or tailoring in that area like seams or flare.

  • @kareno7792
    @kareno7792 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    Yay, someone that finally gets it when it comes to rise! That's what makes it so hard to find jeans or pants when everything out there is high rise and super high rise. Even mid rise can be high on me (I'm 5' also). I have to pull the high rises way up and they are extremely uncomfortable and look terrible. And they usually migrate to my actual waist and create the baggy crotch like you have pointed out. Thank you for the video. You're right, some days I don't care about appearing taller but for some occasions I do and this has been a quite informational video.

    I am so glad to find your videos. I am 5' 1" and always have problems with pant lengths being too long, sleeves being too long on jackets, long sleeve blouses. Like you, I have a lot of weight in my thighs and hips.
    I NEVER wear white or beige or light color pants (even in the summer).
    I prefer to wear either black, navy or dark brown color pants or jeans because I think the darker color makes your leg look a little longer as well as more slender in the thighs and hips. I do wear light color tops though as I am narrow shoulders and small on my top half.

    • @LoriLundquist
      @LoriLundquist  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes length in pants and sleeves are almost always an issue for me too. I do end up tailoring some of my pants and sleeves I just roll up and make do. It's frustrating though, I completely understand. Btw a tip on white pants, buy a size up. That is how I buy lighter color pants.

    Thank u very much for sharing this content I did already know that boot cut Jean's & flares are better & make us look taller, & the rise in the trousers I dont pay as much attention to as I should, but I do find that here in the UK that Mark's & Spencer's Jean's in a 14 short fit really well, so I tend to buy from them.x

      Great tips, and it’s really good to hear that you’re going more towards these sorts of videos. Re looking taller, it’s probably a lost cause for me a lot of the time. Although I’m 5’3’’ - not that small- I come from a tall family, eg my brother is 6’2’’. So there’s no disguising my lack of height when I’m with them. But it’s still good to get the proportions right.

    The obvious color contrast between tops and bottoms is the bigger problem. Crotch length and silhouette is also important, but the defining line between a lighter colored pant and darker top really does so much more to accentuate "shortness".

      Hi Lorraine! Cardigans are so tricky for us aren’t they! I have found that if I’m looking for a longer cardigan (sits lower than the hips) then I stay away from thin knits because thinner knits highlight everything I don’t want it to lol. J crew has a Juliette style cardigan that is a little more structured and is more flattering. (Amazon has a great dupe). And when I wear a longer cardigan I always tuck my shirt in to give some shape to my body. If I’m not wearing a longer cardigan then I try to choose one that sits above the top of my hips. I hope this helps! ♥️

    What difference between the tapered versus the wider leg pants! I love the wider look however at 5’3” it’s difficult to find them in the correct length. They can’t be hemmed because it would ruin the look. I’m noticing more length choices by certain retailers ( Gap , Old Navy and Macy’s for example) that really helps. I’m so happy retailers are realizing that there is a need for them.

    • @LoriLundquist
      @LoriLundquist  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Kim! Tapered get narrower from the knee to the ankle which can throw proportions off balance. A wide leg or boot cut will have a gentle flare or widening effect from knee to ankle. I hem my pants all the time and have no issues. My favorite places these days are Liverpool, Abercrombie, NYDJ and Democracy

      Hi Avery! What clothing aesthetic do you like?

  • @trangn6564
    @trangn6564 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Shorter people seem to have more difficulty finding the right fit because clothes are mostly sized for taller figures. Do you feel like that is true? Nothing wrong with looking your height, as long as clothes fit well and are available to buy off the rack with minimal alterations.

    • @LoriLundquist
      @LoriLundquist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I agree. Clothes even it petite sizing aren’t made to fit perfectly right off the rack. And I think that’s the biggest struggle because of the extra cost for alterations. I’ve just accepted it’s part of the equation if I want my clothes to fit well.

      @LoriLundquist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wearing nude shoes with the beige pants. For the denim my point was to show by wearing a similar color shoe as the bootcut jeans it can create a longer look. But yes nude works with denim well too.

  • @suzannelawson9215
    @suzannelawson9215 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yes, I must be of your mom's generation. I called those pants pedal pushers too which are now called capris. I think capris can be of different lengths. Some are just below the knees, some are to mid- calf and others are above the ankle. I am pear shaped and about 5' 1" i don't like my knees at all, as they are on the chubby side so I don't like to wear any shorts above the knees. I want my knees covered. In very hot weather, I do like capris that just cover the knees. Do you think that length of capris make you look shorter? They fall just below the knees but not to calf.

    • @LoriLundquist
      @LoriLundquist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Suzanne! I think visually they can make your legs look shorter because of where the pants end. That being said, I completely understand you wanting to wear them in hot weather. I think you should continue to wear whatever you are comfortable in because at the end of the day, the only things that matter is how you feel. I break "rules" all the time!! 💕

  • @ckoskimies
    @ckoskimies 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I find that even a bootcut jean can make your legs look shorter . If the curve by your knee is at or lower than your knee the help you get with balnciing your proportions with the width at your foot is kost
