Love watching speedrun's for games like this. You always learn the true OP strats, which for a great game like this can save some serious time even on a fun or casual playthrough.
This video really exemplifies that you need to work smart, not hard. I used to be put off by Disgaea as a kid until I tried it, then realized that it wasn't mindless grinding, you just had to grind smart, and with each iteration of Disgaea there'd be more and more ways to break the game, it's really amazing.
goddamn i'm having a blast watching this whenever i see you doing something bold, i was always thinking "aw no way this dude is insane" and just like that you got a level 400 unit in an hour
watching this video and replaying it in my game, i did the same thing in 10 hours. It took longer to learn the mechanics behind it than it really is a thing in itself. Great video.
Throwing anyway that isn't left, right, up, down is actually a glitch untill like in disgaea 4 when they made it a normal thing probably to annoyed that people where abusing it and just made it a mechanic.
@@stopstopp a gitch that became acknowledged in one game than a feature in future games is still a gitch. It's actually common practice to keep well liked gitches in future titles/updates. Some games also just make it a feature. If it wasn't a gitch you wouldn't need to practices how to get to the area you like consistently in a game like disgaea.
Masterful exploitation of the reward system, you are a true demon. Also I had no idea you could throw diagonally, that bit of information would have saved me a lot of time when grinding.
omg I really just watched this all XD Late to the game, played phantom brave as a kid, bought a while ago on steam on sale... x2 speed and skipping around but took over an hour to watch, amazingggggg tech, that's a W right there
@@treeman73272 the mechanic was grindy and felt terrible to use, plus, a lot of mechanics are kinda weird due to the level cap increases of 9999->9,999,999->99,999,999.
@@xbon1 it was necessary to grind in disgaea 5 to max out your stats, you captured monsters in bulk then got magic extract out of them, I really liked that you could do that to get stronger
Hmm, so far I followed the vid up to around 40:00 but without commentary it is difficult to know what’s going on sometimes. I’m trying this on the DS version so hopefully “diagonal throwing” doesn’t become mandatory later. Also the “Unit cap” is smaller so capturing monsters can get annoying sometimes. So far tho, this has been very helpful.
This really helped, I just crushed all the super bosses with my Surt's and Dullahan's! It felt a little unfair. I might type up a comment for the PC version, basically it is the same except when he passes the "strongest enemies" bill. So with that I didn't need to max it out right away. For the first Nekomata or Dullahan I passed it a couple times then captured one at a similar level. Then I had to pass it a couple more times for the next one and so on. I did have to max it out to get the 9000+ Dullahan's though, then I captured a 3 of them, which really helped capture the Surt's!
Why is everyone complaining this is cheating? The fast forward stuff and lifting ability, that's already been in disgaea since in PSP and PS2 Btw I just couldn't believe how smart it is to abuse the lifting and combining enemies system
I wish there was commentary explaining what is being done and why... maybe I'm just old cause I played this in like 2003-2004 and never got back on since joining the military in 04.
I did the same thing to rip through the guest bosses and get me through the item world until I got the Yoshitsuna. Just got an overleveled Dullahan to do the work. Nostalgia.

consider redoing on ps4 remake? you can skip cutscenes and sword swings, and quitting during a battle or item world just undoes the battle (or having jumped into item world) rather than all the way back to the title screen. awesome job tho. just finished playing it thru baal and prinny baal, and i took just a LITTLE longer, like 130 hours longer. :-P
When you change throw direction, the target briefly moves along the diagonals on its way to the new direction, if you press A (or X on ps4) before it reaches the new direction, then the character will be thrown diagonally.
If the sum of levels to your vassals in the portal are iqual o great than character you throw in the portal, you can chatch them, but not happend all time, if you failed, the portal break and all you vassals in the portal are defead
So can some explain how the hell some of those red mages and brawlers were suddenly lv 24 Around 46:00 mark? They didnt kill any enemies or nothing? How is it done and is it possible on disgaea pc?
Some one answered this already but if you throw the enemies with a Red HP bar to the enemies with a Yellow HP bar you can combined them. Yellow bar enemies are neutral so you don't have to kill them. As long as all the enemies with Red HP bars are gone your bill will pass. I usually pull a neutral enemy close to my base and bate the red enemies before starting to combine them.
Was there a limitation on being able to move the cursor quickly? You could shave gime by changing the settings to make it move faster or by holding down the button that makes it move even faster than that.
I havent played in a while but during that one part at 1:11:30 I think you could have lift the golem then ran into the box then cancel to get into the box and still reset the lifting character. If you where planning to get into the box.

Don’t you do more damage when you chain more attacks up at once or is that only a mechanic of the later games? Between the overkill use of brave hearts and not taking advantage of chaining attacks together, I feel like several minutes could be shaved off of this run.
You mean in the court? I think it was like this: When you want to get something to get approved in the court, there‘ll be monsters who‘ll be either pro (Yay) or con (Nay). If the nay‘s outnumber the yay‘s, you‘ll get to use force on the court and you enter the fight. The pro‘s are neutral (theoretically on your side) but won‘t interfere in the fight and you’ll have to get rid of all the con monsters. Here is the deal. Since the monsters judging are extremely strong and much higher level, you can’t really fight them. The trick is, you’ll have to “feed” the weaker con monsters to the stronger pro monster (by their current level). Example: Con Lvl 54 -> Pro Lvl 78 = Pro Lvl 132 That’s done by lifting and throwing the weaker con monster onto the stronger pro monster. And since the pro monsters are neutral, they won’t attack you. Once all con monsters gotten rid off, you win and the court gets approved :)
@@Sokaim I think they meant after they're tossed into the base for a failed capture, because once the monster comes out, it doesn't fight back. An example of this is at @22:01

I killed Mid-Boss after powering him to level 37. Since his a Boss monster he gives bonus Exp and Money. One of the most exploit mechanics in speed runs.

Disgaea series is one of best JRPG series of all time, if you can't imagine you don't like JRPGs. That said, 1 is clunkiest/worst gameplay mechanically, 5 or 7 would be better to kill Baal in and have fun
That diagonal throw is not a cheat. It has been part of the game since it's release. It is a matter of changing the direction of the throw with the directional keys and hitting whatever enter button you are using as the the characters are changing direction

Looking at your last comment, you played the PC version, which is completely different from Complete, i.e. the ability to fast forward cutscenes. What do you think is edited?
Haven't played this version of the game but I have been playing disgaea since around 2005/2006. Seeing the optimization the creators have put in such as allowing attack animation to be turned off and the automatic movement of characters on the map is very nice. I am also curious as to what edits you are talking about. All I see is an optimized game with genius routing to one of the hardest enemies in the game

Well with some item world luck 1k lvl in an hr was possible too just needed luck

You can only throw that way with a exploit. But I did forget that exploit was a thing

It is to get the rewards from the hospital faster. One of the reward criteria is reviving dead characters.

How does throwing opponents onto each other cause the bill to be approved in the dark assembly???
Some one answered this already but if you throw the enemies with a Red HP bar to the enemies with a Yellow HP bar you can combined them. Yellow bar enemies are neutral so you don't have to kill them. Its for hospital rewards one of the requirements is by reviving allies at the hospital for some of the rewards

im aware of healers only leveling up by using weapons and not spells in the original version but im not sure if that was the case for mages also

first for mana to recruit more allies. Then for Hospital bonuses. Then for more mana to collect the 1000 mana for "strongest enemies" bill.

If you grind enough, strategy not even required. How you grind is usually where the challenge is.
