Quite sad how utterly ignorant Americans and UK are to European artists. If the author had taken the time to research Helene Fischer before making this video he would have discovered that since releasing Atemlos she has become a mega star in Europe and Germany in particular. She is regularly in the top 10 money earning female artists in the world and in 2117 topped both Britney Spears and Celine Dione for earnings. Her arena tours are phenomenal where she has a multitude of dancers, full orchestra, etc and performs to 120,000 adoring fans in places like the Mercedes Benz Arena. She is the complete artist: incredible voice, amazing dancer, and she even adds trapeze and high wire acts into her stage performances. Quite simply there is no other female performer like her in the world and, despite doing duets on her own show with many of the greats (she also sings in Russian, Italian, and perfect English), she is still relatively unknown in America and the UK. But then again, our ignorance probably means we do not deserve someone of her exceptional talent who is, incidentally, not an annoying diva like many other so-called artists I could mention. Check out her arena performances of 'Achterbhan', 'Fehlerfrei', 'Flieger', 'Herzbeben' and also the official videos of 'Null auf 100' and 'Volle Kraft Voraus' from her latest album. As for Schlager music. All German music is Schaleger. It is a catch-all title, but it has progressed from the original country & western type songs about love and relationships to nightclub and Euro Pop. Atemlos was a nightclub anthem but it is still Schlager.

This having said, I'd like to add, that there are two kinds of Germans: those who love this kind of music called "Schlager", and those who hate it. Haters complain the simplicity of the songs. It's "fake as fake can be", "Music only for simple minds". But they do have many fans. There is a German language pop music not to be considered as schlager. Artists like "Lea", "Mia", "Jupiter Jones". Rappers like "Luciano", "Shirin David", "Kollegah", Not to forget the most popular German band "Rammstein"
Have you heard of the Norwegian singer and national treasure Sissel? She is considered one of the world's top crossover sopranos and has a phenomenal voice. If you have seen the Titanic movie, then you have definitely heard her voice. She has been performing for four decades and is a very special singer. When you hear her voice, you will understand why. Could you react to one of her songs? I can recommend "The Old Castle" or "You Raise Me Up".
