Fits the anime perfectly though, in two ways.... Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme were symbols of comfort, strength, love and courage in medieval times but were also seen as "healing" burned when someone was sick or dying to help them recover, and that basically sums this anime up.

I was just watching this anime, completely unaware, and then as soon as I heard this song playing, I recognised it. And if not we’re the fact that it was so late when I watched it, I would’ve screamed. Because this is one of my favourite songs. Now this anime is one of my two favourite animes (the other being My Hero Academia/Boku no Hero Academia) WORLD END I LOVE YOU!!!
Interesting how the Simon and Garfunkel version had "The Side of a Hill", a song depicting war, playing alongside Scarborough Fair. In this version you only hear the lyrics to Scarborough Fair, but in the anime, as this plays in the background, we see gruesome images of people getting slaughtered while fighting against the monsters on the ship. Whether or not this was intentional, I can hardly say, but damned if it doesn't hit you in the feels while watching it.
The first anime in years that has had an emotional effect on me, glad I finally found one. Started watching anime like 5-6 years ago, two animes I started off on were Clannad and Angel Beats, takes a lot to live up to the emotion those two brought and I can confidently say this anime did it. Whilst it didn't make me cry, only Clannad managed that, it did make me teary eyed.
It was very surreal to recognize a what-was a popular song at one point just randomly in an anime. The only other semi relatable experience I've had to this was when they did a cover of Gurren Lagann OP in Saekano.
It still screws with me when I hear Fly Me to the Moon at the end of Evangelion. I know it's there, but going from everyone losing their mind in Japanese to Sinatra always gets me.
Bcs of all the stupid people that gave this anime rating of 1s in 2017 (when it was released) we won't get a second season. Now, it is not the end of the world :) there are 6 Light Novels that you can read :) (I can barely hold my tears)
Decided to look up this song after someone asked me what anime a scene was from. Was this one. This song is timeless and hits so differently from when you first saw it, then that season ending ep. I teared up and i know it was cause of this song that pushed me over the edge. Truly beautiful. If you love this song, i tell you to look up Celtic women version of this, it’ll blow you away.
I knew from the first episode where it was going because of this song but i had to see it through to the end, it was the saddest ending and this song added to it so much, the foreshadowing on the first episode was clear if you know of the song... This is still one of the most beautiful yet haunting renditions I've heard.

If I remember right, the anime cut out a lot of the plot points that would allow the shift into the next part of the plot in order to focus more on Kutori's story. So the next part of the story would have seemed like a very, VERY large shift.
As an English person, I grew up singing this song, but this anime made me realise how beautiful it really is.
