I love the enthusiasm Jack has for reading this book and generating ideas in his creative mind for his own future books. I'm totally nerding out with him on this.
I picked up Annie’s Nuclear War in hardcover and Kindle and was halfway through when work travel brought me to Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Mind blowing, but also so edifying being able to to see the places she reviews in the earlier parts of the book in person. Thank you Annie for writing this book and to Jack for having this conversation
I purchased a book and it’s a really good read. This is the first time I heard or give credit to Trump about a nuclear scenario. Although she considered his rhetoric as inflammatory. It is what was needed at that time to facilitate a meeting between North Korea and United States. A face-to-face meeting that has never happened before and never has happened since. Easy Annie your political ideology is creeping through. By the way, I have all of Annie’s books. Thank you, Annie and Jack for this podcast.
Her other books look quite interesting, the Area 51 and phenomena in particular. Agreed I could do without the TDS, seems like she does quality writing though.
I've studied nuclear weapons and policy for many years (I'm just weird that way). I found this book absolutely fascinating and horrifying at the same time. It's funny that her bibliography is like an inventory list of my bookshelf.
Growing up I was not a big reader. Mostly biographies or autobiographies of people I looked up to. Slightly before the pandemic I had to get a grip on boredom. I then started reading books people I looked up to recommended. I love Jack Carr Book Club.
I'm enjoying the first episode of the Jack Carr book club. Her latest book describes the worst case scenario about nuclear weapons and Warfare is still a important issue with the Free World today. I'm might try to check it out.
Jack, this book club is such an awesome idea. Thanks for doing this. Would you consider an interactive format for future books? That would be super fun. Like a live podcast format where we could ask questions etc
Loved this book even though “loved” is an interesting word to use. But well worth everyone’s time. Puts to death any romantic notions of the end of the world or a life after nuclear war. Read this book and watch the movie Threads. Horrifying that world leaders appear to be taking us in this direction. Another great interview Jack!
Again a very plausible and accurate depiction of what could happen . Jack and Annie brought up some good points on opening and keeping open lines of communication. Hopefully deterrence will continue ……
Reading her book now... hard to put it down!!!!!! I have stocked up on Pedialyte, however living 24 miles from the Norfolk Naval Base, Langley etc... I would be vaporized!
Thank U for great interview. I really think of your work as something very interesting, valuable and cool at the same time. It really opens the head and creates more crystal clear image of nuclear disaster that absolutely needs to be avoided. Just the amazing jest scary begging of the book gives me feeling of a horror movie. Im sending positive energy and pray to God that not one nuke will ever be used. "Peace and beauty".
The CIC need ask permission of no one to deploy ANY weapon. The officer core - whom have a duty to disobey unlawful orders - is the check on his authority. Consensus is a tree, not a table.
Jack, Jack, Jack...I cannot believe you haven't read POB's Aubrey Maturin novels so why haven't I heard or read any references to one of the truly epic action/adventure/thriller/naval warfare/government corruption stories ever penned?
And… it took her 5 mins to go orange man bad I’m out love ya Jack but just can’t do it brother genuinely love you and your work. Super interesting but I’m not in a place anymore where I can ignore the Trump derangement anymore. I’m just at my limit. Cheers
@@BLAISEDAHL96I genuinely don’t care who she supports politically I can enjoy things from people I disagree with but that was a calculated decision on her part to toss that in which just ruins the interesting apolitical conversation that was happening prior to that for me. 🤷♂️
@@ben6690EXACTLY!! Her other books look awesome and if she could just keep a lid on the TDS crap it would benefit her greatly as to not alienate an enormous swath of potential readers.
I truly enjoy Jack's enthusiasm for his podcast subject matter but wouldn't it be interesting to learn that nuclear weapons like this don't even exist? Jack may have inadvertantly gotten it right, this book is a novel.
TDS typically involves a frantic tone, doomsday predictions, and noxious adjectives. IMO calmly describing DJT's language as 'abberant' (which simply means not conforming to the norm) doesn't qualify under Trump Derangement Syndrome. In fact, you could argue nonconformity is DJT's biggest attribute. She doesn't feel that way, but atleast she offered her critique in a calm tone using moderate language about a specific issue. Btw, I don't think those in the throws of TDS, would close an interview with complimentary language about Gingrich and Reagan (she does). Judge for yourself at 13:37.
This is seriously such a fantastic podcast, I'm very glad it exists.
I could listen to Annie Jacobsen all day. So glad she does her own narration on Audible. Great writer, a true non-fiction storyteller.

Thanks Jack, fascinating interview.
I finished this book yesterday, I’m officially horrified
I got my copy while listening to this and can't wait to read it.
Prepare to be horrified. I just finished it yesterday

Jack just watched the terminal list. The series is awesome. The ending I did not see coming
Currently reading Nuclear War, so far it is a phenomenal read.
Great interview. This book was an eye opener and terrifying!😳

Excellent, can't wait to hear Kyle !

Annie has the most soothing and authoritative voice.
Right on!😊😊
I really like her voice.
Jack ... why nothing on the assassination attempt? As a former Sniper your thoughts and experience would be welcome.

The subject matter is fascinating and her Area 51 book sounds like great reading!
Great Book! Scary Book!

Sweet intro!
This hopefully isn't fiction literature, like this gives me nightmares, Jack.
I would love to see a Zack Snyder-Jack Carr collaboration.

Jack, you still say Nuke-u-ler, just like W 😂
Snipers can say it any way they like.
Aberrant? Who said that? Warmonger John Bolton or some other pinhead like that?
6 minutes. Makes you wonder why the 46th President has not been removed from office due to health concerns.
