Thank you for this video! I randomly stumbled across these old whaling stations just looking at remote places on Google maps and was fascinated by the immense structures and machinery littering the landscape, abandoned. I had to know more and that how I found this video!
Im writing a book, and i needed a location for a secret enemy base. After watching your video i chose these beuatiful island, and the waling station as my base. Thank you
Thankyou for this very informative film. The earth has few wild areas and the sea of the southern ocean and it's many islands must remain a wilderness. The animals need this and we need this. And our future grand children need this. Can you imagine what they would think if their cry is once there were whales...
I came here because I wanted to learn more about the South Georgia islands as they are written about in the novel Endurance by Alfred Lansing. This video is great and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about whaling. The bit on Shackleton was informative and bridges the novel to present day. Great work.
I was looking at a map and looked for some remote island and found this one and just decided to type it into You tube and see if anything came up LOL.. wow.. what an eye opener...
I’m developing a video game that’s set on Arctic island with an abandoned whaling outpost on it. It’s great learning the history of these outposts and it’s a treasure of info for adding legitimacy to my games storyline. Great video!
@@rapidthrash1964 I think I’ve got everything I’ll need minus a programmer haha. I’m using unreal engine and I’ve based a huge area on this town. It’s looking good so far!
Very interesting and we'll made program. I enjoyed learning from it. I currently am unable to Travel so you help this Old guy travel in my mind. Thanks for getting me out doors from my Sofa.😁

Do you need unity assets for this? I might have some that I made for a game (taking place on a fictional Alaskan island)?

I would go and never leave the island.
great video!
Great video - thanks so much
It has tons of mammals, fish and birds to eat and plenty of freshwater, plus abandoned ships and buildings. Who is to say SG is inhospitable!?
Wimps.
Very informative video
No mention of the S Georgia during the Falklands War?
I think I may move and relocate there.
Beautiful desolation.
How did he let his pals know what island his ship was wrecked on?

Of course we haven't learned anything from the last century of whaling. Has anyone thought of the shareholders?
