A true power hour with the saw singing the blues. Someone is going to be pleased with this batch of boards, very few defects and a nice tight looking grain.

I've enjoyed watching a sawmill operate since I was very small, a little boy. Thank you for posting this. Brings back old memories.

Thanks for the comments at the beginning. It would be helpful if you put them in your comments section with time of incident, or across the top of the screen during play, so that your viewers don't have to guess where to look for the features that you mention. What may be apparent to you and some viewers is not always recognized by those less familiar with operations. Please take this as constructive criticism, not a bashing. Thanks for posting. I love watching log break-downs!

Ian, on that very last log with the metal in it, when metal is struck that early in a log, after replacing the broken blade teeth, did you then write off the rest of that log as firewood or did you work to saw around where the metal was, fingers crossed there wasn't any more metal anywhere in the log?

Firewood pile!! I’ve gotten away with trying to get more yield, or cutting the metal section out like you mentioned if the log is long enough. Also it’s bitten me plenty of times too. At this point I just prefer to kick them out

Nice sawing 👍 Sucks about the metal, always puts a kink in your day. I personally prefer white oak over red, I know I'm in the minority on that preference.

You were talking about the different saw blade types being used in todays episode, not being a subject matter expert in saw milling you lost me. Also was unable to tell the difference in the blades tone, played the video back several times still a no go at this station.

About the 40:00 and 41:00 marks, around or soon after that, is when the blade change happened. The sound pitch of the saw's cutting drops noticeably due to the 'B' pattern saw having a few fewer teeth around its circumference. IIRC Ian has said the 'B' pattern blade has 48 teeth compared to 52 teeth for the 'F' pattern blade.

At some point I’ll do a video that does a better job at comparing the distinctions! I just had to change saws while compiling these and figured I’d mention it:)
