In the 70's. Grace went to Eileen Ford Modeling Agency in NYC. She was turned down saying Her Skin was Too Dark, Her Nose Too Broad, Her Lips Too BIG. So she went to Paris and became a Super Model for Top Designers, Then became a Disco Diva singing Edith Piaf songs. Coming back to America a Disco Diva having many Disco Hits, produced by Tom Moulton. Then an Acting Career. She recently Strutted down the Catwalk at age 70 in Thigh High Hooker Boots. to her Hit Pull Up to the Bumper at Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Show in Paris. She performed Slave To The Rhythm at the Queens Jubilee in London Swaying her Hips with her Hoola Hoop. It's all on TH-cam.

Grace Jones was "Lady Gaga" long before Gaga was a gleam in her father's eye. And your quote of "...has released a few things...". You need to check out her history. I LOVE Grace Jones: beautiful, powerful, and extremely sexy. If you want to look at another of her songs, I suggest "Corporate Cannibal". She released that when she was in her mid-60s!!!

Hi, I'm from South Africa and in 1981 I was 11 years old and my older brother bought the Nightclubbing album on vinyl and I still have it, he's aware I kept it, he played it a lot. It was released twice, the second time with lyrics inner sleave. So my first iroduction to her was as a singer.

I love the song, "Walking in the Rain ". Gay people, even in the late 70s, loved her unique style, being way ahead of her time, and her authenticity. Saw her in concert 1981 or 82. She was great. Her audience was mostly gay people. So proud of her!

My favorite Grace Jones story is the time she performed at a cabaret in Paris in a gorilla costume. Rules do not apply to her. The song that sums her up best is "Private Life", a cover of a Pretenders song.

She did the gorilla bit in New York City as well. That was definitely the wildest concert I have ever attended.

Grace Jones and her strong persona opened the door to music for many black women. She used to use strong white make-up... I am recommending Slave To The Rhythm, Thi Is Life and my my favorite by her - Corporate Cannibal.

She was way before Lady Gaga if you look at a lot of Grace Jones things from 1978 till now cuz she still performing. Then you realize how much stuff Lady Gaga copied. Even down to the meat outfit. Grace Jones did not wear a meat outfit but she performed inside of a cage with meat in it. America was never ready for her America will never be ready for her because we're too tired of into racism and she broke those barriers but unfortunately she stays in Europe where they get it.

You're right about the accordion but the original main melody of this song was composed by Astor Piazzola (Liber Tango) and played on a bandoneon. Heres's a jazz-rock rendition of this song that is also outstanding :

And since you're interested in cinematography, this video and other Grace's video was deirected by Jean-Paul Goude, Grace's former companion and iconic French visual artist. He mainly worked in montage photographies and advertisement with very avant-garde commercials that integrated many cultural cues from the 80's.
