They are on duty in the box for an hour then changed over so water is not an issue in winter in a hot summer they will bring water out for both horse and Trooper . So Reggie is a gelding Venus a mare , they are bought at around 3/4 years old then carefully trained once they pass training names are suggested by the Troopers and a favourite chosen , using the alphabet for each pass out , next letter is Z , so Reggie will be around 9/10and Venus about 7 .
The signs are only in English because we are in England ! These are the kings guards, the monarchy what we the British people pay for. Visitors need to respect that.

I agree with you. Americans have a huge amount of respect for the military. If people are going to visit they should learn about the country it is their job to to learn about country and its history and traditions.

When I visited Israel many years ago now, our group respected both the Jewish traditions (of which there are many) and the Muslim traditions. We would never have done anything to offend or disrespect their cultures. I cannot believe how these people can disrespect the Guards, the police and the other tourists who are patiently waiting their turn. It's disgusting behaviour.

When I was a little girl (too many years ago) my father who worked very hard all year would take a day off during the week and take me up to London for a day out - we always walked the same route from Victoria Station, past Buckingham Palace, up the Mall, through Horse Guards Parade to see the Guards and Horses before going onto Downing Street, and then off to various museums - it was never this busy, no armed police but "city men" in Bowler hats carrying umbrellas and I loved every visit...whilst we sometimes took photos of the Horses and Guards and the parks, we never thought once about taking selfies (and never be rude to the guards!) - after all these years I only need to look at a map or close my eyes to remember those special days with my dad .xxx Watching this also makes me remember those wonderful days and the beauty that is london x
I agree. I think the "selfie taking" itself is rude and boorish behavior. Ditto, just getting up close to them. That behavior would never have been acceptable 50 years ago.

Been watching the guard for 2 yrs now, and besides the teenagers this group seems to be the biggest aggressors to the military. Shame on them when they themselves have never put their life on the line for their country.
FALLOUT: Yes,,Hasidics do volunteer to serve in the military, hundreds of orthodox men have volunteered for the IDF. The difference is it's not mandatory, as it is with other Israelis fit for duty. Yet they are in both the military leadership and lower ranks in the IDF, by the hundreds. Do some research before you stereotype. Their taunting of these guards, however, is an entirely different issue. I've seen other people who also have visibility, also be reprimanded, like Chinese members of the communist osrty who misbehave in much the same way, etc. All of us need to be clear and careful about what we say, and what our motivations are regarding tourists who act inappropriately, whether they've git high visibility or not. I've seen some comments here that border on something of questionable, selective reasoning. I'm thinking hard about it too.

The worst ones I have seen on here have been a large family or group of Hasidic Jews that were hogging all the guard positions keeping everyone else from getting pictures and being rude to the guards and visitors. They have been thrown out a couple of times. My neighbor is of the Jewish faith and a USAF veteran as I am and he tells me that they are troublemakers at home and abroad.

My d in law is an American born Israeli but she and her sister both went to do the 6 month military service for the country. I really would have expected better behavior from them but that goes to show you judging a book by its cover can leave you shaking your head. And the kids, obviously they have not had any discipline. About time these highly trained soldiers are treated respectfully! Last summer was disgusting as tourists treated them like they were Disneyland characters.
That's the problem, thanks to Disney copying their uniforms many think that is exactly what they are, actors portraying soldiers and not real at all. It makes me wonder what the Disney employees (in the US as I've heard behaviour at EuroDisney is much better) have to put up with.

But unfortunately the world we now live in now and the kind of teenagers around a lot of them have no respect for their elders. 1:03:35 As a 27 year old American, I am really surprised by the social etiquette everyone has. Yes, they were kicked out, but they didn't cause tension beyond that. Then for you to be able to go over there and talk to them about it without them being extremely defensive, you were able to have a meaningful conversation with people of a different culture. The respect is just outstanding, I wish America would lower the animosity we have for one another. If we could all come together with our issues we have against one another, and discuss them critically instead of defaming each other, this country could be in much better shape.

I worked at the Imperial War Museum Duxford for some years and these people would often visit in huge groups. They were rude, arrogant, argumentative, and disrespected both the exhibits and staff at the museum. I personally have no time or respect for them exhibiting this unacceptable behaviour whilst in our country.

Well done, John, for engaging with the Israeli Tour Guide, explaining politely that the Guards are at work and do not deserve to treated in the way that this particular group tend to behave, including the group of women and children. These people let their country down. Hopefully, the Guide will communicate that respect is important to the group.

They felt it was appropriate and necessary to do so, despite their religious beliefs. So you're incorrect: not "all take the exemption."' Far from it, a pretty decent percentage of this small religious minority have taken the oath and are serving. And that's fact, not social media gossip. @@alicekramden8640 Pini used to be a Hasidic Jew and told me that Hasidic Jews are exempt from military service in Israel. Most interestingly he also informed me that this particular group behave the same way with IDF Soldiers in Israel. It's a cultural thing and apparently not intentionally disrespectful.

It was great to hear the guard tell that man that he could touch the horse, but don't touch the reins! They literally have to spell everything out for these tourists, because many when told they can touch the horse, go right for the reins! This particular group is so disrespectful and obnoxious! The children act the way they do, because they have been raised by parents that are disrespectful. The "adults" are the so-called "role models" for these young ones, so it's rather easy to figure out why they act the way they do! I was elated to see the officers step in and toss them out! Kudos to these officers! Now they just need to stay on top of it anytime that this group shows up! I wish their tour guide would have "guided" them before they entered the yard as a mob, and went right for the guard! Perhaps the guide has learned something for future tours.

As someone of Jewish ancestry I’m ashamed by the group’s behaviour and attitude towards the Horseguards. I remember my Great Grandmother who was a very strict Jew, children were seen and not heard and we had to be on our best behaviour and manners. No way were we ever allowed to behave like those kids.
I met a lovely Jewish family last year, they were taking their 3 little boys to the beach , I showed them which bus to get , it happened to be the bus I get home ! I sat and talked to them on the way , the boys were obviously excited but beautifully behaved said thank you to me and the driver . They were a pleasure to meet I hope they had a wonderful day out .

I still see people not understanding why these royal king and queen guards are there? They think these guards are weak and, show pieces. In fact they are from royal Army military, very few are selected to perform these duties, it's a grueling job: standing still for lengths of time, heavy clothing even during the hot summer months. I'm former U.S. Army, retired and, honorably discharged: much respect to each one of these 💂♂️ guards, may God bless them all!

Yep I agree. Having these soldiers dressed up in historic costumes and making them stand and parade in all weathers for tourists or royalists is very disrespectful. Makes it even worse for them when visitors are ignorant and behave like this.

They are on duty in the box for an hour then changed over so water is not an issue in winter in a hot summer they will bring water out for both horse and Trooper . So Reggie is a gelding Venus a mare , they are bought at around 3/4 years old then carefully trained once they pass training names are suggested by the Troopers and a favourite chosen , using the alphabet for each pass out , next letter is Z , so Reggie will be around 9/10and Venus about 7 .

When I was a little girl (too many years ago) my father who worked very hard all year would take a day off during the week and take me up to London for a day out - we always walked the same route from Victoria Station, past Buckingham Palace, up the Mall, through Horse Guards Parade to see the Guards and Horses before going onto Downing Street, and then off to various museums - it was never this busy, no armed police but "city men" in Bowler hats carrying umbrellas and I loved every visit...whilst we sometimes took photos of the Horses and Guards and the parks, we never thought once about taking selfies (and never be rude to the guards!) - after all these years I only need to look at a map or close my eyes to remember those special days with my dad .xxx Watching this also makes me remember those wonderful days and the beauty that is london x

The worst ones I have seen on here have been a large family or group of Hasidic Jews that were hogging all the guard positions keeping everyone else from getting pictures and being rude to the guards and visitors. As a 27 year old American, I am really surprised by the social etiquette everyone has. Yes, they were kicked out, but they didn't cause tension beyond that. Then for you to be able to go over there and talk to them about it without them being extremely defensive, you were able to have a meaningful conversation with people of a different culture. Before anyone starts clutching their pearls and claiming anyone is being anti-Semitic they need to ask themselves why it’s always Hasidic Jews who are appallingly disrespectful to the guards. They should remember that many of them wouldn’t be around at all if it wasn’t for the heroism of the Life Guards in 1945.
The other group are just as disrespectful. But kids never learn respect if the adults just let them do whatever they want cos it’s easier to just stand around nattering rather than so their job and ensure their kids behave. They looked appalled that the police had to intervene and do their job for them. What would they have done if the guard had knocked that little one over cos she’d got under his feet.
Some seem to think it’s a theme park not a working military facility and the guards, while they may be wearing their ceremonial uniforms, are active front line troops. It’s about time that was made clear to tourists before then set foot on MOD premises.

Most interestingly he also informed me that this particular group behave the same way with IDF Soldiers in Israel. It's a cultural thing and apparently not intentionally disrespectful.

It was great to hear the guard tell that man that he could touch the horse, but don't touch the reins! They literally have to spell everything out for these tourists, because many when told they can touch the horse, go right for the reins!
This particular group is so disrespectful and obnoxious! The children act the way they do, because they have been raised by parents that are disrespectful. The "adults" are the so-called "role models" for these young ones, so it's rather easy to figure out why they act the way they do! I was elated to see the officers step in and toss them out! Kudos to these officers! Now they just need to stay on top of it anytime that this group shows up! I wish their tour guide would have "guided" them before they entered the yard as a mob, and went right for the guard! Perhaps the guide has learned something for future tours.

As someone of Jewish ancestry I’m ashamed by the group’s behaviour and attitude towards the Horseguards. I remember my Great Grandmother who was a very strict Jew, children were seen and not heard and we had to be on our best behaviour and manners. No way were we ever allowed to behave like those kids.
I met a lovely Jewish family last year, they were taking their 3 little boys to the beach , I showed them which bus to get , it happened to be the bus I get home ! I sat and talked to them on the way , the boys were obviously excited but beautifully behaved said thank you to me and the driver . They were a pleasure to meet I hope they had a wonderful day out .

I still see people not understanding why these royal king and queen guards are there? They think these guards are weak and, show pieces. In fact they are from royal Army military, very few are selected to perform these duties, it's a grueling job: standing still for lengths of time, heavy clothing even during the hot summer months. I'm former U.S. Army, retired and, honorably discharged: much respect to each one of these 💂♂️ guards, may God bless them all!
