Abstract:
The prestigious PubMed portal, a database belonging to the National Library of Medicine (NLM) of the United States, published a research study conducted by a renowned Argentine ophthalmologist, Dr. Andrés Alza. The study focused on a patient with Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome associated with a congenital malformation of the iris and a subsequent atypical pupil morphological alteration. “This anomaly is unique in the scientific literature and presents a peculiarity that we have named pseudo-acoria: hidden pupil,” the professional explained. In that context, he stressed that early detection of the pathology and surgical management are necessary, as this would lead to a better visual prognosis for both amblyopia and strabismus.
