I agree with your observation that it almost sounds English. I'm a native Dutch speaker, so I can understand what she's singing, but if you wouldn't listen to the words and just listen to the sounds, it almost sounds English in a lot of places. Her Dutch is very clear, so it's not like she's mumbling to obscure the language, but there's something about the phrasing and flow of the words that makes it almost English sounding. I don't know if this is done on purpose, since it's meant for an international audience. If so, it's done in a very clever way. It doesn't scream "Dutch". You could write lyrics and sing it in a way that has Dutch written all over and couldn't be anything else. But these lyrics and her delivery flow very smoothly. I think this helps not to alienate the international audience. Anyway, it's a pity not everyone can understand the lyrics. Reading the translation is different. Hearing her sing the words with that voice makes it very emotional. It touches your soul.
