- Basically I saw Reggie Watts perform and that got me interested in LOOPER/LOOPING/LOOP pedals. Since I don't have that hardware, I tried to rig up a way to do the same thing in Reaper.
This same technique can be adapted to Cubase, Logic, or your chosen DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

But for sure, these types of videos are way easier than build videos, and a live stream is easier still, so it's encouraging knowing at least a couple folks actually enjoy them. Thank y'all! :)

Thats why theyre called accidentals! Wrong notes can sound awrsome sometimes.
Crafsman, you might not be a professional-music-academy-trained musician but you if you play music you are a musician. On top of that you’re a composer, sound engineer and a producer. So keep on steady strumming and drumming. (Love the warm tone and timbre of that ukulele.)
11:49 The 'magnet note' is the fifth note of the scale you're using (i.e. it is a 'perfect fifth' interval from the 'tonic' or first note of the scale), it's called the 'dominant' in music theory for exactly the reason you describe. The first two notes of the Star Wars theme are the tonic and the dominant, it's very powerful.
Just as an aditional step, REAPER does have a proper audio looper, it'scalled Super 8 and works pretty much like the Boss/Roland looper pedals Reggie uses.

For the past few months I've been cooking in my head that I want to make some music. Simple stuff, something like what he showed here. I was watching videos for keyboards and midi controllers, but his solution to just make use of hotkeys and a simple midi controller is the simplicity I wanted. Thank you!
This makes me really glad. I put out music-related videos like this sometimes and they significantly "under perform", as far as numbers go. (TH-cam reminds me every morning just how poorly my last episode is doing. LOL.)

Finally got to watch it. You magically inspired me once again. I love this song and it somehow reminds me of the Adventure Time Outro song "Come Along With Me".
The Crafsman, You just made my day! I ordered a few stickers (OTO7 IS SO CUTE!) and 2 pocketnauts as a little gift for myself in the hopes i would forget i did it before it got here and it worked! I had a very rough day, but also my first appointment at therapy. But coming back home to find this little carepackage from past me and the crafs-family was the perfect relief to a long day!

Ps Check out J Dilla - he famoosely turned off quantasization and made things off-beat and cool sounding. PPS I think that magnet note you refer to is also called the 'root' - my friend Sven told me :D

Kind of reminds me when I had a brick phone and each number was a higher and higher sound and I would play music on it all the time. I started with Mary had a little lamb but then got really good at it and would jam on my cell phone.
Some of those wrong notes sounded good.
It's all about in syncopation and surprises in the melody. :)

You can make about any track you want with it.
The trick is to not give yourself a headache. 😅
My current track is based on Monodony by The Fat Rat.
But this freestyling was amazing.

Sometimes wrong notes are right notes. Sometimes things shouldn't be quantized.
Crafsman would be cool if you made your version of some of your favourite show characters and made some action figures or figure of your interpretation of that character
I hope the new K.O. II from Teenage Engineering for $300 will have the same capabilities. It's built-in sounds and 4 tracks are a plus. But I don't know about midi. Also, they have a couple of issues with the fader switch that hopefully gets fixed.

I should really charge up my Ipad Version 1. I loaded it with some great music apps and got some pretty exotic music from it. (do I have the cable?) It won't work on the internet anymore, but that's fine.

Do you have any special setup to get your latency down? I've done a bit of playing around, and the latency is so distracting that I can't even tap out a drum beat

Man your voice sounds so different on these newer videos. The bass is more pronounced.

Crafman has all 99s and doesn't know it.
Your "magnet" note is the root note or root chord. This is the note that the other chords "resolve" back to.
Except in that case, it was actually the 5th, not the root. The note you're most likely to play just before you resolve back to the 1st/root.
You write music the same way Paul McCartney does…just saying.
Crafsman! I understand that it is your nature to be low-key and unassuming but saying that you're not a musician because you just listen to things and try to match it is like saying you're not an artist just because you look at things and try to match it. I have to point that out because I know you won't.
I'd like to respectively disagree with you. You ARE a musician :)
