Honestly it feels nice watching someone that doesn’t enjoy a lot of what the read. I say that because I’m in a similar space. I think when you read so many things outside your comfort zone and try lots of things you’re going to run into a lot of duds and I’m ok with that. Watching people dislike books doesn’t bother me bc everything isn’t for everyone and I won’t know if it’s for me until I read it 🙃

I relate to and appreciate your comment so much. A lot of the books, romance and otherwise that are popular, don't seem to click with me and so I soldier on reading what appeals to me instead.
For instance, I'd like to find a YA book that doesn't make my 45+ y/o eyes roll, AND I'd like to find a decent paranormal romance with a human + werewolf/vampire.

Honestly, I find watching people talk about books they don't like more interesting. It's kind of like that Tolstoy quote "All happy families resemble each other, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." There are only so many ways for a book to be good, but there are so very many ways for a book to be bad, and it's never the same reason twice.

I completely disagree with everyone saying that your videos are lacking excitement because for myself I really enjoy watching these videos, especially when doing chores, and I like hearing you ramble about KU books that I'll probably never read myself.
I enjoy your videos whether you like the books or not. I get a little annoyed at the contingent of the book community who only want to hear positive thoughts and reviews. I personally find value in honest opinions both good and bad.

I for one love your content whether you like a book or not. I feel like sometimes I have the strongest opinions on books when I dislike them, and that makes for something interesting to talk about. I love that your channel is creative and with every single video there’s no telling what we will get, what the style of video is, what you’ll be reading, or if you’ll enjoy it. That makes it really fun for me as a viewer. Though I would literally watch you review the newspaper. I appreciate when you review popular books because I trust your opinion and want to know what you think and if it’s overhyped. But I do think you have read a lot of stuff outside of your usual romance this year. As long as you’re reading enough books you enjoy like KU romance or indies to keep you interested in reading I think it will show in your channel!

you are the only/main reason i am currently reading/started reading romance when i discovered your channel in 2020. since then i have been diligently watching every vid so please don't think your content isn't what ppl want. you and your channel are awesome, incredibly informative, and highly entertaining! our tastes don't always align but i constantly find recs from your videos! for ex verity when you finished it you mentioned why it wasn't 4 or 5 stars but the way you talked about it and your reasoning really intrigued me and i picked it up and read it! or when you recommend the YA cruel prince series i read it. so what i'm trying to say is i can find recs even from books you don't like b/ you do such a good job! i only end up loving/highly rating 15 to maybe 20% of the books i read in a month so i don't think there is anything wrong at all in talking about books you don't like

I’d suggest continuing the plated prisoner series. I was meh about the first book and almost DNF’d but continued and am obsessed, it’s now my one of my favorite series. Be patient with Auren😂 She really frustrated me in the first book but I love her growth and becoming a badass.

i have to say - i LOVE your content. i much prefer someone reading what they want to read and being honest about their feelings. there are so many people on booktube who keep things neutral, which is fine, but i look forward to your reviews/vlogs because i never know what i’m going to get!

no i genuinely love your videos and i love hearing your input whether you end up enjoying the books or not .. a lot of reading is subjective and based around one's own opinions and that includes the bad ones as well as the good. youre allowed to not enjoy books!
I think it's realistic not to like everything you read and I like your honesty. I like low fantasy and have found some great ones on KU. Sometimes it's fun to read urban and paranormal stories - they're usually pretty easy to pick up, fast-paced and usually fun, and I don't think too many others cover this, so I'm here for it!

I think it's equally interesting hearing about books that have left you dissatisfied-especially if they happen to be huge hits for everyone else. It's nice normalizing that not everything you read has to be a home run. Sometimes I find myself second guessing my own feelings for a book when I start reading other people's reviews and see that they absolutely loved one that I thought was mediocre or I'm head over heels in love with a book that wasn't such a hit for others. 😰 But at the end of the day, I appreciate your honest feelings more than any sugar coating, so thanks for staying true to yourself. Can't wait to watch your next reading vlog!

The Plated Prisoners series is sooo much better in the last two books and I really fell in love with the love interest in the second book. Also, she becomes less of a baby back bitch in the last two.

Zodiac Academy series is legit soooo good!!! I generally dislike bully romances. I tend to DNF them a lot and I avoid them in general. But zodiac academy has such a unique and well thought out magic system that I initially kept reading for that reason and I’m so happy I did. The story gets better and better each book. I am completely invested and obsessed with the series now and can’t wait for the next one. I found out the ruthless fae series takes place before and the Darkmore Penitentiary series takes place after zodiac academy. Both of those series are really good too. They’re both RH which I also normally don’t read but the writing is so good I loved them both.
I really enjoyed The Bridge Kingdom, both books really. I found the writing really good and enjoyed the characters. I read it when I was in the middle of an ACOTAR hangover so it definitely filled that space lol

i recently binge-read the zodiac academy books and honestly i've had the best time even though sometimes i wanted to rip my heart out

A KU book I've really loved this year was Manor for Sale, Baron Included. I'm not sure if it will totally be up your alley (clean romance), but it had a pretty unique set up (from what I've read) for a regency romance. Successful businesswoman, total golden retriever himbo hero, and a disabled sibling who wasn't treated as sad and weak. It was short and sweet, but so funny and I loved reading about a woman with so much agency in a historical setting.
I read Gild earlier this year and it was fine. Apparently the second book is better and the third is the best book in the series but I didn’t care enough to continue.
The last one out so far in that gild series is the best
I loved zodiac academy and am ready for the next book to come out. This is soooo good. But ruthless boys of the zodiac is the first series in this world. And fantastic too.
I also noticed that you recently didn't like most of the books. But if that's how you feel about a book I just want you to be honest. I think that's what we're all here for. I get more frustrated with booktubers just love everything. I can't really take recommendations from that.

I’m glad to see someone reading Zodiac Academy. I saw this on Amazon as a recommended read and when I read the synopsis my heart sunk. I’ve been trying to write a book for years and the synopsis sounded like the book I was writing…not exact…but with zodiacs and elemental magic and I was going to be mad that the idea was already taking. But now since I know what exactly the book is about, I’m happy it is nowhere near my book idea lol.

So, Gild is by far the slowest of the Plated Prisoner series. Please keep going. Book 2 does a lot more world building, and we get to meet the Hero. The third book is just... beyond epic. AND it has one of the most memorable steamy scenes I've ever read. This series is my new obsession - May 19 can't come soon enough.
It's really and truly a story about healing and finding your own strength/showing up for yourself, but it takes a minute to get there. The first book really just serves to get inside Auren's head.

I can see where people are coming from but at the same time it’s not like you’re picking books you won’t like on purpose. I love that you’re so critical of books. When I first got back into reading I started watching you and one thing that stood out is that you didn’t powder coat anything. An example being The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Everyone and their mother loves that book. You’re the first person I saw criticize it and I didn’t understand until I read it and had the exact same opinions. Your opinions help me make wiser reading choices whether they’re positive or negative and I’m grateful that you’re so upfront. It’s refreshing to know someone isn’t blowing smoke up your ass.

As far as Gild is concerned. It does get better, frustrating at points but It does get better. Ive just finished the third book and feel SO happy that I saw through the series and I can’t wait for the fourth instalment. Give it a go, trust me 👍🏼 x
I read the first 5 Zodiac Academy books in 2 weeks.. it normally takes me 2 weeks to read 1 book! So addictive and the smut OMG the smut is amazing.

Also…I think it’s kinda weird how many times people suggest you read the 2nd book of a series even if you disliked the 1st one…I feel like it happens so often…and if you didn’t like the first one the odds are low about the next books…you could just read one you like instead..

I love KU! My favorite romance/fantasy on there is “Daughter of No Worlds” (part 1 of a 3 book series, book 3 is not out yet). I feel like you would really enjoy that book!

I was so excited to read The Bridge Kingdom but did end up DNFing it, the concept is so up my alley but I felt like it really fell of for my interest in the last 30% and couldn't put myself through the rest.

Honestly, kindle unlimited choices have been very lacklustre lately. I read voraciously for about 5 months straight and in about July, everything that was being released just seemed boring. There's one book series that I really want to finish and despite it supposedly having been released in June (amazon says that there's 5 books in the series, yet only 4 show up), it's not anywhere on KU and the author seems to have disappeared. I really hope she's ok.
I've started about 5 books and have not even DNF'ed them. They're just sitting in my library gathering dust because I'm not sure if I just don't like them or if I'm just not in the headspace to read them. We'll see. I just picked up my phone to try them again.
On another note, Gilded Prison is a great series. Despite you not liking the first book, I highly recommend that you read the others, preferably after the next one is released next year. I believe it's the last book and I hate waiting so long lol.

I read Maddison Kate and I thought it was quite good. I think every book has something’s about it that aren’t for everyone but sometimes you can look past them and there amazing lol
For sci fi I read Milana jacks and she is so good.
Gild book 1 was not the best in my opinion but I liked the world and the main character, so i read on and the books get SO much better in my opinion. If you want her to have agency you get that but it takes time. I thought the 3rd book was fantastic.

So for Zodiac Academy series there is another series set on the world but at the “poorest” school instead of the richest. It’s a reverse harem so you might not like that but it has mobster vibes and the main character is trying to figure out who killed her brother. It’s called Boys of the zodiac series. I actually read most of the series before I even learned about the Zodiac Academy. It’s cheesy and over the top in the way that 20 year olds probably shouldn’t be the leader of their respective shall we say “Family’s”

So I read the savage land series by stacey Marie brown and holy crap I loved it. I'm on book 4 in 2 days and I'm so mad more are not out. Usually I wait for the whole series to be out. Warwick, the hero is THE BEST! Like think Jason mamao and the mountain (got) got combined.

Bridge Kingdom was the first book I ever trully DNF'ed and I was 75% into the audiobook, I just cannot force myself to listen to the last few hours, I low key was having a horrible time and it's mostly the main characters aren't clicking for me and there isn't enough relationship building. Also the fact that you know straight up she will definitelly betray him because the second book is traitor queen, duuh. It was just a NO from me and the writing was good, but I just cannot continue with it, first time this was such a reaction from a book for me, I'm a basic reader, I love mainstream romance fantasy, but not that one.

I felt like you loved more in the past. But maybe there haven’t been very many good books out lately. Also there’s a huge pandemic that’s bringing everyone down. But I honestly don’t think it’s just you. Ive had a hard time absolutely LOVING books these days. I want to go back to kiss quotient days or birthday girl days.
