Dude!!! Rewarding models with more paint is exactly what I do! I also find it a way of painting only something that you want to keep playing or compete with. I'm currently on version 3 of my Raven Guard and will always dedicate the most time to 1 or 2 units that won the game for me, or at least did something cool.
I like how you guys mentioned "rewarding" good performing units with a paint job. I did a similar thing with my Grey Knights and all their extra medallions, etc. where I held off on gluing/painting about half of them and use them as "medals" for performing well on the tabletop. 😊 Honestly it adds some cool flavor to my army.
Great episode! I am currently looking over my Xmas gifts, hobby minis and supplies I bought for my birthday today, and my list of minis I worked on last year. Built and primed a lot but did not finish many. Building a checklist for 2025 of minis to finish to finish more models than I start this year, got to clean up the back log. I am also however doing new year new army and picked up the Tyranid Combat Patrol as I want to make myself a bug army! Lots to paint, and I look forward to lots of hours spent doing that this year while I listen to this podcast. Happy new years fellas!

Great chat guys. I’ve enjoyed watching your videos this year so please keep up the great content. My goals are to play more games of my World eaters. Played lots of Necrons but want to switch it up a bit and have just started a Black Templars army as well so want to get them painted up. Would love to play more tournaments this year and get over the fear of playing in a tournament. If your travelling round the UK and ever need a game in Gloucester let me know 😂 Audio books are great for painting sessions and I watch battle reports while painting as helps with tips for games I find.

I’ve just found the channel and what a great chat, I’m new to the hobby after moving to Australia from the UK and needing something to do in the evenings. Planning an army and unsure how to go. I used to paint fishing lures and one of the issues with airbrushes is the compressor and not the airbrush. I used cheaper ones without issues as long as I cleaned them, I did find that if the compressor can gather too much moisture and cause issues. Make sure you have moisture traps at the pressure valve end and one before the airbrush itself. Hope you work it out their so handy to have in the tool bag!!

Good vid gents! Dan, for the most oart you dont need to varnish orior to an oil wash. If you're using white spirit as a thinner, it wont remove the acrylic paint underneath, and the capillary action of oil washes works well without varnishing too.
@WorHammer40k Yeah, much stronger! IPA is actually a decent paint stripper, I don't think you want to be using that to make oil washes. A good artists white spirit like Windsor and Newton is the one.

@@WorHammer40k I'm loving it so far. 🤩 I went for the premium sub so had my first 'extras' included in the last dispatch. The extra sprue included with the Hive Tyrant confused me until I worked out I could buy an after market torso and have a winged Hive Tyrant for £12. I will admit I need to learn to play the game. The actual magazine content is great background, and fills the 40k verse out nicely. With all the painting, I've not got round to getting anything onto to the table!
@ph0n1k ah you were one of the lucky ones - Dan's premium kit still has not arrived! Yeah that hive tyrant trick is nice!! Building and painting is a huge part of the hobby - playing is nice but not necessary at all to enjoying 40k.

28:14 I got an airbrush as I was dazzled by the online painting around it. Never use it, it’s such a chore to clean and manage it puts me off using it.

My priorities for 2025 when it comes to 40K: Get more into painting - I got plenty of Necrons who need to get painted :D Play at least once (preferably twice) a month! Try out all Necron detatchments - I started awakened dynasty, then hypercrypt legion, and now I've tried out starshatter arsenal, so I got OP and AL left!
@@WorHammer40k Mainly I've been doing the codex scheme, but will probably pivot more towards some other one once I feel experienced enough. Main goal: Work up the skill to finally paint Void Dragon on my own! :)
KR Multicase have been my go to for foam for years. Magnets are fine sometimes, but on a long car journey, or a train/plane - foam is safer. I have a bunch of their card cases and have had them for years.

I could listen to you guys talk about Warhammer all day and in fact, I probably have a few times already. 😂 You know how some people “comfort watch” the office or shows like that? I find myself doing that with this channel. I’d fallen off playing or following the rules for far too long and I was able to get up to speed with my “Christmas Crons” for a holiday battle with my buddy just by going through your catalogue. Absolutely top notch content, thanks for all of the hard work you boys put into it!
Great episode, especially as this is my first time watching. I used to collect 40k back in the early 2000's and recently started up again with a Ultramarines army (Space Marine 2 had a big influence) I haveb't been able to play any games as where I live I haven't seen or heard anyone else who collects etc. Howerver a local store opened up and they have mentioned they are thinking of having gaming nights there in the future. I'm just worried that I'll turn up with my Smurfs and no one else will. I also don't know all the rules as I haven't played at all in over 20 years. I learn better from doing rather than reading too, so it's a struggle. On another note, do you guys have a Discord that fans could post pictures as I don't really have an Instagram Loving the podcast, have a great 2025 everyone
@@iconoclast1986 it is daunting taking the plunge but we've met a bunch of amazing people playing 40k. Almost all are incredibly helpful and welcoming of new players, so give it a shot! We don't have a discord yet but it's coming soon!!
My 40k resolution is to actually take the plunge and play the tabletop. That'll start with binning some stuff and getting some room to paint, but it'll be more exciting once I'm past that. I also don't get the overspending on first army bit, I've just been playing around with lists and checking out units. I have a fairly good idea of what I want to build up to but maybe that's just the overplanner in me talking.
My goal for this year is to round out my necron army. Need more flayed ones and LHD with locust lord. Get vespid for my tau. Start imperial knights. Then, I think my goal will be to actually win a game.
New to the hobby and made tau kroot as my main army. Just finished building up the kroot hunting back and now working on a retaliation cadre box for support for the kroot. Still indecisive on color sheme i should go for 😅.

A bit late, but I needed some time to catch up, after restarting the routine. My new year resolution is: diminish my Grey Pile of Shame before adding new models to my collection. And of course New Year New Army also for me. I resisted the urge for almost 2 years, but I am starting a Raven Guard 🐦⬛ army. I know, I know… an other Space Marine player, boring. But I love my edgy-emo-beaky boys
well i got a BIG pile of potential. but i have reached a point where i can see that i don't need that model or that big box, so not much more coming in. but i got a lot of armies and projects laying around. and preparing for a baby, so my hobby have to come in second.
This year im running a half marathon, my wife and I want to start a family and gunna be using my new Necron army to kills Sons of the Lion in Pariah Nexus crusade
