    I'm a certified dayhome provider. It's my daughter and I. I text pictures and short videos to my parents throughout the day so that parents know that their children are doing great. We definitely focus on education, art and reading books. We separate the toddlers and older kids in separate rooms. I make sure they have fresh fruits and veggies everyday. I'm only allowed to have 6 kids, so cleaning and sanitizing is much easier. The Department of Education provided us with enough PPE to last for the rest of the year.

    As a mother with a grown son, I'd like to assure new parents that, if you can at all afford it, choosing to stall your career for a few years really doesn't have to be the huge stumbling block so many parents seem to think it is. Even a five-year gap really isn't that long. You can indeed pick up your career again, or restart with a new career. You'll never regret spending whatever time you can with your children in their first few formative years. I chose to have only one child, and was able to go back to school and successfully start a new career when he was ready for kindergarten. It seems like forever when you're in it, but there are a lot of years when your child is in school when you can be learning too. We're very luck in Canada to have the maternity/paternity benefits that we do, sometimes enhanced by unions or employers.

      She's pregnant again, and so will be returning to work for a short time only. It maintains her seniority in the union (which for nurses in Alberta is the UNA), keeps her extended benefits going and working again will qualify her for some additional maternity/paternity benefits. If she were to stay home after her first leave is up, she wouldn't qualify for another paid leave and she will be considered as having quit her job, not on leave. She would lose seniority and benefits. Maintaining seniority would enable her to work after the 2nd baby, without losing that seniority for pay and shifts.

      Totally agree with you. I would be terrified to have my child in any care home that is not under some sort of control. Too many horrific stories of children being neglected and even worst

      Honestly I spent more time with my son, he was no 1 in his class, voted most likely to succeed, not motivated. My daughter put her in daycare, more outgoing in top 10%of her class, she was 5yrs old when she told her future plans. She's in her second year of college top in field!daycare was best!

      @@janetday5431 I had my daughter in daycare from the time she was 3; which is when I returned to work. I never regretted it. Fantastic daycare/nursery school and she loved it. Social skills learned at an early age that were strong, and she grew up with a big social circle of friends, accomplished, kind, a feminist by the age of 6 (she announced that Brownies were sexist and she was having none of that ha), athletic and now as an adult is a fabulous parent, has a great family dynamics with a man who adores her and fantastic children of her own and she teaches special needs children. As parents we must investigate, research, be ever vigilant and watchful, but we must let their wings carry them forward.

    Sabrina is thriving. She's confident,curious and very sociable which is probably why she will do well in the dayhome environment. When she expands her vocabulary she will chat non stop☺️ She might have a future in hairdressing though her method of moisturizing via mouth may raise some eyebrows😂 As parents you know your daughter best and you are providing the stimulation she needs whilst making absolutely certain she's in a safe environment. Love seeing her growth and your adorable relationship as a couple and growing family.🤗

    Hello! I work in childcare and I must say that the questions you provided for families to ask are great! I love that you mentioned what solidified your choice was the feeling you got from the provider. This is key because you want a good, comfortable feeling with the person caring for your child. Children are parents most sacred and beloved treasures so it’s super important to find someone worthy enough of caring for your babies. Great video as always Justin and Sarah! I hope you have so much fun and learn a lot in day home Sabrina 😊. Sending so much love your way 💕

    You are doing the right thing in checking out all of these places and yes please drop by without letting them know so you can see first hand if they are who they say in paper or conversation. The first tell tale sign is when you see diaper rash. . .sign they are not checking carefully. So many firsts when with your first baby and by the second baby you'll be a pro. Great questions, I love Sabrina and her little noises she makes😍

    We had both of our kids in the same daycare. Cost was $2280 a month- this was back in the 90’s. We placed them there after asking all of the questions and loved the ratio (4/1). But the best part is the entire daycare had cameras where we could dial in from work and see what was happening in their classrooms and outside in the play area. We could also schedule a time to “talk” to our kids during the day which was great as well. Only down side- late fees were $15 for the first 15 minutes Kate- after that it was $20/ each 15 minutes. They had cooking class, collage class, French, wall climbing, karate, and drama (they put in a show once a year). We loved it. Then it was bought out by a chain, and costs went up and all the extras were narrowed down. Ratio went up to 8/1. So we moved to a day home situation for a year, then they started school.

    I understand ..how you must've felt..
    I went threw something similar,,
    With my daughter 💕 ..I asked a thousand questions as a Mother ..
    I felt it was necessary..she was the same age as your precious little girl 👧
    My main concern was anyone..trying to pick my 👶 up ..I'm old school..even if the person's name was in the blue or yellow card ..there was 1 thing I did I put a code like what's the magic word ..
    Meaning This person can say you sent this person..so you must know what it is ..
    MINE WAS PEANUT BUTTER..AND JAM ..VERY SIMPLE CODE ..
    And if you didn't know the code ..YOUR NOT TAKING MY BABES ANYWHERE..
    And Your so very smart to choose from 1 or 2 options 🤔..God bless you and your little growing family ..

    Omg, it's so difficult to find a daycare. I struggled so much leaving my daughter but I had to go to work and had no other choice.. I finally found a daycare and my daughter would break down and cry when I would pick her up and she would eat like crazy when we got home and I didn't know what to make of that. Well one day I showed up early and I went to where they stored the bottles because they weren't in her bag and saw her bottles were still full... I absolutely almost lost my mind because the daycare owner had no valid reason why my child wasn't fed all day. The only thing that kept me out of jail that day was my daughter... It was an awful experience and my daughter never saw that place again..I would recommend a daycare with cameras where you can log in and see your baby at all times.... Which I didn't do.

    Where I work out ratio is 1 to 5 so there are ten children in our preschool class. We have two children in each center, they was there hand before go to center and after. What ever the child touches or plays with is taken once they are done and sanitized. Those toys stay sanitized until after nap and then are put back out. During nap we spray and sanitize everything. Then if a child is putting things in their mouth, coughing or sneezing, or putting it on their face it's as soon as we see it , that toy is put in a bucket for sanitization. At the end of our day we spray and wipe down everything again.

    I wish more parents asked these questions when I worked in childcare. Also, I feel like some parents are afraid to make requests regarding their child. One summer I had a kid whose parents didn't allow her to go on field trips so every Friday she alternated between sitting with my boss in her office and hanging out with the 3 & 4 year olds, who never went on field trips. That child was miserable every Friday and even when we spoke to her parents they were indifferent. One event I wish was a thing was a mixer for all the kids and parents so parents can put faces to the names of their children's friends. When parents are coming and going at different times it's hard for them to arrange playdates.

    When I had my daughter in daycare it was 1 person per 6 children’s . The most important is our children’s learn and have friends that grow up with them in social skills. My daughters learned and went well to the school. I recommend no to focus much on so much learning because they need to learn most important of all social skills and some starting on writing part of the body things like that . Teaching languages and so much stuff when they are just in day care that won’t work children’s will feel pressure. They will
    Learn in school . Good for you that she is growing so fast and will learn a lot in daycare.

    The dayhome sounds ideal, especially for a very young child and it sounds like you've made a good choice with what the provider has set up. What I want to point out to parents is about insurance for an unlicensed dayhome. There are two types of insurance, general liability for every day matters and then there is insurance that covers businesses with vulnerable clients; i.e. children, vulnerable adults...and so do they have insurance for caring for children so that in the event of an incident, where a worker is at fault. All care providers for children and any vulnerable adults need to have the right insurance that will pay up if something horrible happens. Talk to them about the the insurance they carry; it's a tough topic to talk about but important. There is only one insurance company in Canada which offers that level of coverage for the industries that care for vulnerable Canadians. Unfortunately not a lot of parents do ask about this and I think it's important. We don't want anything to happen to our children, but sadly in this world there are people who will prey upon the vulnerable, and it's important to ask if they have that type of insurance.

    • @hilaryc3203
      @hilaryc3203 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not hard, just hand your child a sippy cup and work up. Kids wean fine, psychologically it's the mother's who need the weaning, not the kids. At 22 months surely you're already using a sippy cup for juice and water?

    • @TashChynna
      @TashChynna 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hilary C yes, she has a sippy and straw cups that she uses all day long. But she still nurses throughout the day and night. It’s more of a “comfort nursing” type of relationship for her.

    • @hilaryc3203
      @hilaryc3203 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TashChynna All animals wean their young by denying them the source and replacing it. It's natural. At 22 months, sorry, but why does she need feeding at night? She should be sleeping through if she's got a full belly of solid food. Increase sippy cups..and less availability from mom. Educating a child to transition is as easy or as hard as you let it be. Kids are resilient and adjust quickly when parents provide the consistency to say..that's the old way, this is the new way. Done.
      Also, on a side note, if you want a healthy replacement for mother's milk, skip cows milk and give your child goats milk. Goat's milk is far more nutritious than cows.

    • @janetday5431
      @janetday5431 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard ,to deny your baby anything seems impossible!I would cry every single time. It will be hard to get back to work, if you don't stop. You need to have your life back! But it's not so bad !I have seen 3yr old nursing from their mom. It's your decision!

    In this day and time I could not leave my baby in a day home. Many times the reviews are done by family and friends. People are kills, molesting, selling, and abusing kids and the parents never know. Our daughter is 9mo old. We chose a daycare center that is corporate own. They go on what the parent wants and more importantly I can pick up my phone and look at her class real time and see exactly what they are doing. The corporate office also have employees who simply sit there and watch the cameras to make sure nothing is going on. The ratio is 4 to 1 not 6....6 babies is a LOT. Even with my daycare being 4 to 1 its a lot. I personally would never trust any personal person to care for my child. You never know who comes to their house, or what they have going on.

    I just wanted to let you know that they have limits to the amount of children in a class. At Sabrinas age, there would be one teacher and 2-3 babies. They would have a max of 8 infants and 3 teachers. For classes with school age children they have ratio 1 to 10, because school age children often prefer to learn on their own. Also, daycares have menus that follow guidelines that insure the nutrition of the children. Most daycare teachers all like the one you described, and don’t go punishing children. Also, the late fees is because they need to pay their employees. I just want you to know that daycares aren’t all bad, and one day might be an option to consider. Especially when she gets older and there are only young children at the day home, that may lead her to fall back developmentally when she starts going to school because she is used to being with people younger than she is. I’m not sure how long you plan on sending her there, but it’s something to consider. I’m a daycare teacher, but I just wanted to let you know that most daycares are really amazing, and just don’t completely rule them out in the future!

    Wow everything is so different now. I’m 70 and my mom was mostly a stay at home mom until we were well into school age. Sabrina is still a baby, I’m old school, I’m thinking she should be at home with a parent, maybe you’re work schedules can work around Sabrina. I don’t have children so I’m looking at this from having been a child not from a parents perspective.

    I had teachers who would (understandably) struggle with 24 teenage students. What makes a daycare owner think someone can keep track of 36 BABIES?!

    Why would anyone hand their child to someone who is unlicensed. I looked for ages for my baby and found a lovely childminder. She was limited to the amount of children she could care for and could only look after a certain amount of children in any one age group. So one under one year, unless it was twins etc. This was all done in her own home where she had adapted the ground floor for her business and her family members had criminal barring screening. She did a sterling job for 3 1/2 years. My daughter loved her and so did we.

    Wash hands that often is not very good on their skin. It's good to wash hands, but every 30 to 45 mins is a bit much.

      Plus the idea we have as society that grandparents are automatically built in free childcare is ridiculous, if they want to give that gift to you great! But at the end of the day they have already raised their kids.

    • @LynRuiz

      Blythe Clarke I raised my own but my mom used to love the kids spending time with her. Some parents just love their kids and grandchildren. My mom even used to make excuses to keep them longer and was always there to help out. My father on the other hand valued his own personal time and was not good with small kids.

    So sad, they have to do all this homework and hoop jumping. Justin's retired, racist parents are at home in Calgary doing God knows what, while Sabrina is sent to stay with strangers all day.
