Unfortunately there’s a lot of dark things going on in mental health facilities. Not much has changed, they use new methods of torture and it is a sickening game for many people running these places. A lot of facilities are just replacing street drugs with pharmaceuticals and making an insane amount of money, not doing any rehabilitation that will last. These people just cycle through the doors.
What we need to do is prevent people from getting to this point. She's this way from drug abuse. Putting her in a facility now is like putting a wild animal in a cage. The desire for drugs and freedom would never end and she'd live in misery the rest of her life. Despite how we perceive her life, she finds a lot of happiness in how she manages it.

Caroline is amongst the sweetest of all the deeply troubled addicts you've interviewed. It always come through at some stage of her interview, how she turns attention to others and wishing the best for them.
So hard to see the transformation drugs has done to this woman. She was intelligent, beautiful, had a great sense of humor. Many people never get to see first hand what becomes of people over time they just see the end result. I think it’s the first time I myself have seen this other than with my own brother. He was smart, ambitious, and so full of life. While traveling and vacationing in Dominic Republic he was using heroin and was given something else. I think it was meth?? He basically had a drug induced psychotic break. When he came home he was never the same. He hears voices claiming there are people fighting over his soul and mind. He believes he has supernatural powers and has befriended a female angel named May. I wish this never happened to him. Miss the brother I once had. I wish things could have been different for him and Caroline. Thank you for keeping us updated
I was just thinking and wondering about Caroline yesterday as I was watching some older videos. Of all the people you have interviewed, Caroline just hangs onto my heart. I so wish life was better for her. ❤😢
Caroline is the first person Mark interviewed…it’s so sad that she never made it out of this life. She was beautiful 😢 I hope her kids are thriving despite their upbringing
My heart sank when I saw there was an update for Caroline, but so glad she's still with us. Out of all Mark's interviewees there is just something so special about her, and I really hope her life gets better. 🙏
It’s remarkable to see how her physical state has changed since Mark’s first interview with her. Back then, she could have easily been a model. Now, the scars of the streets have left her almost unrecognizable.
“She could have easily been a model”? It’s clear you’re being very hyperbolic and emotional and know nothing about the modeling industry and how it works, what it takes.
Never mind, Charlie Sheen, i remember Caroline mentioning her brother being a Navy, or Air Force pilot having died in a crash, and he’d be heart broken to see his sister like this.
Listening to this reminds me sooooo much of Amanda. It breaks my heart when Substance Use Disorder causes psychosis. I thank God everyday for waking up in my right mind.
I couldn’t get to this video fast enough, I always wonder how Caroline is. When Mark mentioned her in the video yesterday I thought that he must have seen her recently and she must still be alive. A lot of people are saying she’s schizophrenic but she’s not, her delusions are 100% drug-induced and if she got clean there’s a chance she could improve, probably not totally back to normal of course but with a better grip on reality.
I work with a 70 yr. Old schizophrenic whom hears millions of voices! this lady is schizophrenic due to drug induced pychosis! The mania in this interview is quite apparent also!

I think Schizophrenic is the wrong label. I believe Caroline is in a drug induced psychosis. She was Mark's very first interview on SWU. Watch her past videos. I think it’s a mix of mental health and drug induced psychosis. Drugs change the chemical composition of your brain . If Caroline got clean and some serious mental health help like EMDR sessions she has a chance of psychologically being about 35-40% “normal” . But she was speaking some facts she’s going in and out of mental consciousness.
Witnessing the descent of this woman into utter madness, agony & squalor has been absolutely mortifying. Her terrible journey is representative of the immeasurable amount of what’s wrong with society today… it’s tantamount to the promotion of human suffering, and her plight is an indictment of the real truth that few of us have neither the ability nor an ounce of concern or care to do anything to help people like her (Mr. Laita being the rare exception, of course).
