- This is a 10hp Yanmar diesel engine I aquired recently, it was brand new in the box when I got it and probably doesn't even have an hour of run time on it yet. It's a pretty neat engine, always kinda wanted one of these diesels to tinker with, now I just gotta find a tractor to stick it in, haha. Let me know what ya think!
The first engine I ever tore down was the 8 hp Briggs & Stratton out of a Montgomery Ward lawn tractor, that looked a lot like the one in the background. At least I think I recognize it- that was 32 years ago; I was 8. The diesel engine is for that I imagine? I've been wanting to do a mower swap with one for a while. Wish they had a 2 cylinder you could buy but the EPA says no. 😕

I thought you had to use the decompression switch to shut it down lol
Is it possible to mount the engine sideways so that the drive shaft faces downwards? I'm considering replacing the B&S 13hp engine (Stiga Park 13 Compact) with a Yanmar engine. The fuel tank would need to be mounted facing upwards to avoid it being sideways.
I'm choosing between a 16hp Briggs and Stratton Gasoline Engine or these Yanmar 10-16hp Diesel for a powerplant for my homemade mini truck to carry tools, fencing wires, logs and rocks around the property..
