ACL - Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury/ All you need to know Dr.Karthik Anand - 7scopeortho

Anterior cruciate ligament is present inside our knee joint, it has two bundles. Anterior cruciate ligament extends from posteromedial corner of medial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle to intercondylar area of the tibia. The anterior cruciate ligament is the primary stabilizer of knee joint. Anterior cruciate ligaments tears are very common in the knee joint and can happen to anyone following a fall, road traffic accident & sports injury. The most common symptom following an Anterior cruciate ligament tear would be knee instability ( giving way of knee).
Treatment for anterior cruciate ligament tears would be, if it's a partial (single bundle tear) with no signs of instability, conservative treatment informs physiotherapy can be done. If the anterior cruciate ligament is completely torn associated with signs of instability, the best treatment modality would be to go for arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
Negligence to the symptoms of instability with complete anterior cruciate ligament tears can lead to meniscus tear which in the latter can lead to osteoarthritis of the knee joint.
