    An object lesson on how to avoid the rote-ness that we sometimes see in carnatic music. A well known raga...a very well known kriti....but it is as if....heard for the first time!! The nuances and involvement take it to a different height.

    When your kalpana swarams can exceed the beauty of the chittaswaram! OMG! THIS MAN IS FROM ANOTHER WORLD!!!!

    I love the comment right at the beginning - begins with "Brocheva aa revarura" followed by "romba naaLaachi" - yes for that. One of the most popular compositions of Mysuru Vasudedachar. It has some excellent expositions of raga Khamas. The swara sangathi's are so well known, that Akkarai Subbalakshmi and Arunparkash happily await and plays them. Vasudevachar actually learnt Telugu and composed (his mother tongue was Kannada). What a great composer? TM Krishna's rendering is such a great tribute this brilliant composer. The entire song flows so well with exploration of the different parts bringing the meaning so well. Hats off to you all.

    Each time I listen to this, I am totally bewitched by Subhalakshmi amma's mind-blowing performance! I could listen to her for hours, and the time would just fly! The vocalist, of course, needs no comment. And the percussionists! What a team!

    It’s just amazing to watch this ‘wholesome enjoyment of music’ on stage. Vocalist enjoying the accompanists so wholeheartedly is beautiful, adds to the rasika’s joy. There’s very little of the ‘self’ a d the beauty of the art reigns supreme. Kudos to all the amazing musicians for giving this enjoyment.

      We are making plans with more musicians in the coming months. Hopefully they work out. I do want to say however that we have some exquisite music on this same channel by Rama Ravi and Alamelu Mani. They are magnificent musicians and the solo concerts we organized with them last year were a great and enduring treat. I wonder why their views are not in keeping with the beauty and artistry of their music. I would direct all of you, serious and discerning listeners that you are to the videos featuring these musicians as well. We can't figure out whey they aren't watched and appreciated a great deal more. We would love to know your thoughts on their music after you have heard them of course.

      Shreyas K yes we have them on our list definitely. However, I am still curious about why the magnificent music of Rama Ravi and Alamelu Mani does not get the views it should get when a sizeable number of discerning and enthusiastic lovers of good Carnatic music visit the same channel. We are waiting for an opportunity to record our next set of concerts with them and other stalwarts too of their generation.

    What are the 2 speaker like objects in front of TMK? The black cylindrical canister seems like a portable JBL Bluetooth speaker. Not sure about the other white box in the shape of the Bose Soundlink Mini II. A digital clock? What are these and what does he use them for?

      I think the mrindangist did a good job by not overpowering the singing plus not going for the usual theatrics associated with this song. And above all he was, enjoying the singing and responding. These are subtle beauties which actually enhances the over all effect. I am not speaking here as a tala or mrindaga expert but as some one who would want the instruments to be part of the overall effect

    While I appreciate TM Krishna's spontaneity in picking the kriti to be sung right there on stage, I do wish he'd limit himself to picking songs that he's familiar with. "Romba naal aachu", he says while starting, as if that's an excuse for forgetting the chittaswarams. If it's been a while, then why not pick another song?
    However, the neraval and kalpana swarams are nice, which salvages the rendition as a whole.

      Really appreciate your comment, well thought out. I do feel that it's more about the divinity of the music that he brings to his songs rather than if he is familiar or not. I personally appreciate him trying out different songs and really going out of his comfort zone as well as "spontaneity" as you mentioned. And also the phrase" Romba naal aachu" to me doesn't seem to be an excuse, rather I took as his enthusiasm for singing brochevarevarura and excited, looking forward to singing this song. Never the less I appriciate your comment as well.

      @@barathmuralidharan5627 I too appreciate him trying out different songs, but some of the mistakes he made here detracted from the beauty of the kriti. Like forgetting the second line of the chittaswaram, or the "Vatatmaja" line. I wish he'd do a little bit of homework before presenting a kriti on stage.

      @vikramnitin9 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Shreyas Kuchibhotla Haha I share some of that sentiment. But what I'd really like is for him to familiarize himself with a song before presenting it on a concert stage. Is that too much to ask for?

  • @rsprasad-fg4kx
    @rsprasad-fg4kx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A discerning rasika would be pained to observe:
    1. the harsh R in place of soft r ( இடையின ர) throughout the rendition.
    2. The wrong splitting at O chaturaa - nanaadhi - it's actually Chaturaana aadhi meaning - beginning with the four headed brahma (being worshipped)
    3. Where's the tenderness in paraakelanayya?! the phrase gets a mindlessly rough treatment. I
    4. It's charanaambhuja - not charanaa - bhuja - one would expect definitely something more from the sangeeta kalanidhi designate😊
    5. He does not even split neeku abhimaanamu - and keeps singing kabhimaanamu as he explores the phrase/ragam plain silly, to say the least - saving grace is at least he sings abhimaanamu towards the end ...
    Sum-up point : simply an over rated singer. Only top-grazing people sans any indepth understanding of music would 'celebrate' such a below par artiste...

      @@vishnuvasudevan2335 For your kind information, all the points tabled here hv deep artistic and aesthetic significance. For instance the point about articulation of 'ra' is one that requires maturity and objectivity to understand and appreciate. If possible try to counter my points with reasoning rather than ranting and juvenile reactions. Art is always great than the artist - one needs to be devoted to Art and not a blind follower of any 'artiste'. That's about it. 😊

      @ramasubramoniamr1384 There are different levels of enjoyment depending on one's state of inner blossoming and refinement. What we 'enjoy' reflects how far we hv elevated ourselves in terms of conscious observation, internalization and evolution. You may very well choose to unread 😊 but Truth & Beauty, the core of any Art form will soft-push us to higher planes of learning, living and enjoyment 🙏 God Bless!

      @@jyothijason9979 I quite see that it is best to be polite all around. However, there is a dress code to be accepted and respected in Karnatic music concerts. Yes, objectively, it is music. But it is also necessarily Bhakti-devotional. So decorum, as inside a temple, is needed. I mean, surely the Ghatam wallah could at least find a plain dhoti, instead of a bedsheet.

      @@teepee431 Indian music culture has never been organised unlike the west, with appropriate dress, codes, decorums, etc. The liberty our tradition offers in that respect is something to be valued. There is no set dress code etc. for Carnatic or Hindustani music, to attempt to impose one goes against the ethos of the art form and denigrates the individual eccentricity the performer brings to the stage. What he chooses to wear is up to him. What he chooses to sing is upto him. Thyagaraja used to roam the towns nearly bare chested and sing, there were no rules governing how the music should be presented. We should celebrate the absence of any rules in our music tradition instead of trying to impose them in a pathetic attempt to copy the western tradition.

      @@jyothijason9979 why so. One has to have a dress code. When carnatic singers sings Rama we imagine rama is standing in front of us. So dress code is equally important fir shastriya sangeetham.
