- TM Krishna performs the ever popular Kriti "Kamakshi", a Shyama Shastri composition in Ragam Bhairavi. Sharing the stage with him was Vidhwan Vikku Vinayakram on ghatam, HK Venkataram on violin, K Arunprakash on mridangam and N Ramakrishnan on konnakol and mridangam. Tambura support was provided by Jayant Naidu and Bhargavi Venkatram.

Just the right pace for this amazing krithi (swarajathi, to be precise) such clarity in the lyrics! Only Krishna’s voice can use this pace to its fullest! I listened to the entire krithi with my eyes closed and it was serenely meditative with an ecstatic finish, just as Shyama Shastri garu would’ve intended. After MS Amma’s divine rendition, I am always apprehensive towards any others but TMK did justice to this! Violin was beautiful as well as the rhythms.
No disrespect, but the konnakol felt a bit intrusive in a couple of instances due to the meditative lyrical nature of this krithi but that’s just me. Immense thanks to all the musicians and First Edition channel for bringing this to the rasikas!
This song is not a kriti, it is a swara jati composed by Shyama Sastry. Very difficult to render. TM Krishna has sung it in an amazing way.
@@ravichandern.6676 Yes I am aware it is a swarajathi and very well aware of the challenging nature of it as with many of Shyamashastrigaru's compositions. Used the term krithi a bit too broadly, inadvertently, but I meant, this composition. I haven't denied that TMK's rendition is lovely as well.
Tmk had done a Swarajati cassette exclusively including this - I vaguely remember. Have the cassette still though we have moved over to digital media. Thanks TMK and team , HKV, Vikku Maestro. Yes - close eyes and get transported to surreal , magical peaceful Shang Ri La !

What a fantastic rendition of the timeless Bhairavi swarajathi
The way the swara jati is composed in Vilamba Kaalam and sung is also a severe test for the mardangika and any other percussionist. Obviously, TMK is a master of Laya.

TM Krishna has rendered it very well. But more than TM Krishna, the song itself is a beautiful composition. I have some heard some 80's recordings of this song and all artists have rendered it well. Nothing unique about TM Krishna.

If we watch the credits at the end we see Christian and Islamic professionals contributing to the technical excellence of this concert. My pranamams to them. Bhargavi, an accomplished artiste in her own right, is seen enjoying and smiling at the expressivity and improvisation of her guru. Ramakrishnan's konnakol is timely and enjoyable. All in all, a most satisfying rendition of Bhairavi, one of the greatest ragas in Carnatic music.
No match to his excellence. Music lovers should enjoy his music leave alone other issues.

Both are valid. For poetic purposes, certain words can take longer or shorter syllables. Eg - pAdamu/padamu, or in Tamil, arumugan/Arumugan. Similarly both kanchi and kAnchi are valid. In this song, Shyama Shastri has used kanchi
So beautiful rendering of Bhaieavi Swarajati. Such talent is going astray misguided by anti-India lobby. So touching and soulful. Not many can give this. Pray TMK made,a ghar,wapasi to become only a Musician.

Normally, TMK conveys his thoughts via his voice effortlessly. This performance though, despite all the brilliance, it looks like the voice is limiting what he wants to convey.
Yes. His talent is the top most class. Par Excellant. Talent is too small a word. Creative genius at its peak.
The only minute lacking could be the Mardavatha in "tone expression". The dryness in tone is little more and hardness of tone is impacting tonal texture of rendering. But otherwise rendering is absolute delight to connoissures and exponents equally.
The TMK shall not bring "DMK FEELINGS TO MUSIC. PERIYAR OR NO PERIYAR MUSIC LIVES TO ETERNITY AND IS DIVINE TO WORSHIPPERS. DIVINITY HAS DIFFERENT EXPRESSIONS BUT NOT EXPOUSING NASTHIKA VADAM.
Unessary flatter. Nothing is special in this Bairavi.Just to please tmk in contemporary contrevarcy people are presiding. Much better Bhairavi are sung by Sanjay, rkmurthy,kunkudi balamurali,Abhishek.. just too much flattering and nice.. both in his being flattered and in his music..

The violinist is way too loud , especially when the artist is singing the beautiful low notes with such precision. The violinist much be silent during such profound moments!
So much of the acrobatics is unnecessary. Takes away from the beauty of this beautiful composition.

I always wish the drumming in his songs was more aggressive, it's too neutered and feminized. Drums are meant to be played. His singing is beautiful of course, regardless of his politics
