I've seen them live back in the late eighties at a festival. The whole atmosphere changed when they hit the stage. When you said: Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, and you started to laugh (I began to laugh too 😆😆). It reminds me of a "Life of Brian" scene (it's a movie from "Monty Python"). When the Roman guy says: biggus dickus. And everyone laughs.
Love old Candlemass with M.M.!! Yes they are still around but do not sound even close as the glory days. Should check out Saint Vitus with WINO! Or early Cathedral as well.
Every time one of your videos shows up in my suggestions it's a favorite album or band of mine, like you've secretly tapped into my playlists :D EDM is is another great choice. Solitude was my introduction to the band (and album), but my favorite song is Black Stone Wielder. I can only imagine how it must've been for some folks back in the day, seeing this in a music store. The cover looks like it's next doors garage band (or even worse), but those that actually bought and listened to it were in for one hell of a surprise!
Man, a piano cover of Solitude would be great now that I hear it. The whole Epicus Doomicus Metallicus album is just awesome. The second vocalist did wear a monk robes on shows.
I love that Richard stuck up for this song so hard. Judson's right though; speaking as a guy in a doom metal band, it's a narrow genre. But a very satisfying one if it clicks with you. Also: if he doesn't like the high falsetto vocal approach, Judson should listen to the re-recording with Robert Lowe. I daresay that version's even nastier.
the above list is more trad doom/stoner doom. here's some "outside the box" doom recs that blend some other genres: spaceslug - supermassive (doom + heavy psych) om - at giza (doom + being an ascetic monk) high on fire - fury whip (doom + motorhead) rezn - iceberg (doom + synths and sax) hooded menace - crumbling insanity (doom + death)

As you mentioned getting an organ in your future band prep, I'd highly recommend the bands Arð, Pantheist, and Bell Witch for some organ doom metal. The first two bands the organ is a key instrument in their music, whereas with Bell Witch it was introduced on their third album (Mirror Reaper), I believe, though that album (and their most recent one, where the organ features far more) is a single song at nearly an hour and a half long, so it wouldn't be for the channel haha
I recommend anything from the repertoire of the band from Arlington, TX - Solitude Aeturnus (yes, that's their name, not Aeternal...), any song. The band has existed since 1987, their heyday was the '90s. The vocalist, Robert Lowe, later replaced Messiah on vocals in Candlemass ('07-'12). Great band, great musical atmosphere. And something extra, I recommend introducing Judson to the music of Paradise Lost... 🤘🤘 not necessarily with the old songs. I know them from the very beginning and I think I appreciate the latest albums a little more, although I started with "Gothic" and "Icon". Stay heavy, Judson too, even if he doesn't like Doom 🤣
great reaction! :-) Please do Trouble - The tempter, for more doom reactions! Cheers from Sweden! Oh, when i did see Candlemass years ago, the singer Messiah Marcolin, did wear a cloak on stage!
The most prominent way Doom branched out a bit was ofcourse Death Doom, and while there are tons and tons of good songs in that genre to check out, I would suggest My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans.
If anyone is interested, french band Anorexia Nervosa made a cover of this track. If you wonder how it might sound with more black metal voice in it, feel free to try it out :)
