    Castlerock is an absolute gem for the East coast- very challenging and you definitely feel like you’re the only person on the mountain at times

      Yep, if the lift is running normally its only 4 people per minute. And spread that across the 3-4 different trails from the top its incredibly quiet. Its even better when its open to hiking only, as it takes alot of time to traverse that lift ticket payers generally don't want to waste.

    Amazing resort. Awesome glades, great expert terrain, large footprint for East Coast. Day drive from Burlington.

    I am season pass holder at Killington but my group and I still like to take a trip up to the Bush almost every year. I don’t have a bad thing to say about the place. Great terrain and a really laid back vibe. That entire valley is beautiful. Spot on with your review. Good job

    Great place but when Alterra bought it and subsequently fired John Egan an absolute legend in the skiing community. 47 year employee and ambassador of sugarbush a lot of us have boycotted this mountain.. Don't forget the 2000+ plus back country acres

    The hostel is my favorite part about bush! I've met many friends that I still keep in touch with while gathered around the cozy living area having a drink from the bar.

    I watched the Great American Eclipse from Allyn's Lodge at the top of the Bravo chair. It was a transcendent experience.

    It is funny that the locals still call it Sugarbush North since the area was originally a separate ski area called Glen Ellen, so the new name is more historical. The name changed in 1978 when it merged with Sugarbush. Sugarbush had also hoped to absorb Mad River Glen, but fortunately, that was fought off.

    It’s worth noting both the Heaven’s Gate and North Ridge lifts are slatted for replacement next summer.

    • @humanbeing2420
      @humanbeing2420 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Heaven's Gate lift is a 40-year old triple chair - that replacement project is already underway, but it's a complex project that has to be completed under some serious time pressures to ensure it will be ready for the 24/25 season. The North Ridge lift is an express quad - are you sure they're replacing that one too? Maybe that was the plan six months ago when you posted, but not anymore?

    Organgrinder will grind your organs btw. I had a good amount of pow days at sugarbush. Deffs one of my favorite resorts anywhere. Heavens gate tripple upgrade would be so awesome. After riding Cannon this year id say they have a similar vibe

    You mentioned that Mount Ellen was once called Sugarbush North. Before becoming Sugarbush North in the late 70s it was actually an independent ski area named Glen Ellen.

    Lived in Vermont years ago. Colleague at work had 50% discount lift tickets to Bolton. Mad River, and Sugarbush. Skied every Saturday and Sunday for a couple seasons. One season I remember that skiing Castlerock was an exercise in jumping from mogul top to mogul top cuz the troughs were literally gravel. Taught me how to turn😊 and jump. The trees on Castlerock is where we went to avoid the lift lines - easily 45 min on a Saturday. When I moved to Colorado I thought I instantly got old, but it was because I did 15-20 runs or more on a Saturday instead of 8 or 9.😎

    Good video. Sugarbush is my favorite on the east but I havent tried loaf yet. I agree with all ur scores except I would give terrain diversity an 8 considering the easy access to out of bounds runs and its relatively easy to explore inbounds but off map glades. Then the terrain park is awesome over on Ellen. I would reduce chair lifts score to 4 due to often being down or late spinning. They only had 1 mech across both peaks for the 22-23 season and to my knowledge havent gotten anyone else so lifts would often start late or not spin at all. Then theres the exposure the top lifts get causing wind closures. So the overall score would be the same.

    Okemo ranked above Mad River is insulting

    • @grumblez
      @grumblez 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it's not, their rankings are mostly objective and okemo is objectively better in almost every aspect. MRG is better if natural snowfall has been good and your an advanced/expert level skier but that's it.

    Sugarbush is where I do most of my skiing. You did a good job on this video!
    Sugarbush is first on my list with Stowe, Killington Jay scoring lower simply because it is farther from my house. Stowe also has always lost points for parking.

    can you do steamboat springs after the renovations and also i feel like the rankings are more biased to advanced skiiers- a mountain with 5 greens got #3 overall (jackson hole)

  • @michaeltravers3095

    Sugarbush doesn’t groom as many trails as Killington and Stowe. Most black diamonds are left ungroomed on the mountain.

    that terrain looks horrible

  • @JohnDoe-my5ip
    @JohnDoe-my5ip 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd strongly advise beginners to go to Lincoln, where the ski school, carpet, and gate house pod are. Not Ellen. Ellen is barely suitable for intermediates, never mind beginners. There's all of three unique runs on the mountain that are even groomed regularly. they're skied off by 11am if you're lucky. beginners would get to lap crackerjack all day? The point of Ellen is the natural terrain. moguls and trees. unmarked runs.

    Take it from a UVM graduate,
    This place sucks! Chairlifts are unreliable. Mountain has odd layout. Snow grooming is terrible. Lodge sucks.
    Go to Killington and be happy!

  • @freedomring3022
    @freedomring3022 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sugarbush is good, but Stowe is much, much better. Killington is great but too commercial, can get extremely busy at times. Mt. Snow is decent and for more "unknown" spot in VT, I like Bromley. It's not as big as the others, but I love the runs there.
