Hahaha. He thinks HE’S the reason for the pod. And, I think he’s right.
Sky's voice is similar for sure, but it's not the same. Scar Jo's voice is much raspier. The idea that Sam pursued Scarlet so hard is what makes this fishier. If OpeanAI can prove to the world that Sky is another human voice actor, by giving her name, and showing early recording sessions, then the world should be able to keep the current Sky model (which is by far the best of the choices).

KP here. And yes. It’s definitely a different voice but similar in “performance” to “Her”, in my opinion.

Great job building that Gash voice app! That kind of guided interaction is really an amazing experience the first time you go through it. Sit in the back of any computer science classroom now, and you can watch a sea of laptops all open to ChatGPT and students going step by step through concepts well beyond the coursework. We're going to build some amazing things this decade!
I always had an interest in coding/building but was limited to the few (stale) books in libraries around me. If you’re motivated, what a time to have an interest in, anything really. (kp)

I've been hacking away at my own for some time now for my custom open source wearable, yours is pretty slick though! I'm not a John Carmack level coder but have spent hundreds of hours writing code generatively since GPT3, it really does make me feel empowered, Always wanted to code, but struggled despite lots of attempts. Anyways, great show as usual!

They just picked someone that sounded like her, that's like picking someone that looks like the rock for a movie, and they they sue you
well, the weirdest thing is there's legal precedent for exactly that. check out Bette Milder vs Ford or Tom Waits Vs Frito-Lay. However, in both of those cases it was specifically a short commerical and it was a direct sound-a-like
I guess they did wrong they should've just pick someone else who agreed, As long as it doesn't stop the advancements of Ai, we good, I guess, cause it should be all about putting the tools in the hands of the people, if every ai has to sit behind a pay wall because of lack of funding then it creates a massive imbalance for lower income people like me😅

I don't quite get the "Scarlett Johansson voice" issue.
If they didn't use her voice, which is seems like they didn't, isn't the vocal-style up to the user?
That is, if the user says, "Talk to me like a robot", to voice will change to be robotic. If the user says, "Talk to me with the mannerisms of Jeff Goldblum", it would theoretically have the capacity to do that. If the user says, "Use the vocal style of the AI in the film 'Her'", then it would do that.

you know, this is a fantastic point. we have no idea what they're doing with the more advanced tools they have but... weirdly the voice part is the most human. you need to hire someone to record a bunch of stuff.

Someone needs to talk to an actual actor. It wasn't just SJs voice, it was the character that she and the director created for the film. Which is vastly more than just a voice, even when the character is arguably a cliche.

Sam planned on the "her" controversy, probably before he asked Scarlet. He knew she's say no, he knew he could pay someone like sounded like her. He knew it would cause controversy on the topic, so we are talking about it which is good. He took all the steps to ease us to the idea of it.
Should we force that voice actor to surgically change her voice, or prevent her from being able to profit off of her voice? It's a pleasant voice. Can I own my DNA too? Do I get royalties if some fool is born with the same DNA......etc....

Scarlett sounds completely different not even close. Maybe people are accent death. But I have tinnitus and even I can tell the difference. If anything Sky's voice is way more annoying. I don't think it would be a loss to Open AI if they get rid of that ridiculous exaggerated voice. But I have no doubt there are people out there self centred enough to think they have corned the market on a bright clear female voice.
The impact of Ai on our lives is too big to waste our time talking about the issue of Scarlet Johansson voice in the model. Too many stressing challenges to discuss rather than that.
well, one way to look at this is that the scarjo situation brings AI to the larger attention of the world at large, there are lots of people who will be impacted that might lean in a little when they hear stories like this

I can see your logic but as someone with an incredibly strong moral compass I would never be tricked into writing a review just to have my name mentioned and I would hope most people have those standards too. Also they are still going out of their way to do it, which means they probably like the show enough to do so... Maybe you are right that it shouldn't be such a normal thing and that there might be a better way to approach the it. But to unsubscribe just because of that? That sounds like you were probably not there big of a fan to have stayed subscribed anyway.
