When Sofia found Vic and Penguin's mom she had a look on her face like she doesnt want to do what she's about to do but she knows she has to do it. I LOVED that shot at the end. Cristin is an underrated actress.
Oz has to be one of the best written characters in recent times. You know he's a ruthless criminal, but he's also so charismatic that he just reels you in and makes you root for him
I'd argue the doctor is the Mad Hatter, actually. He uses hypnotherapy, he's always drinking tea, he's on meds for his own mental issue, he's hyper-fixated on getting a single woman's affection, and has a thing for being in a position of power over those drugged up in his care.
I like this theory a lot more than the ones assuming the doctor is Crane/The Scarecrow...but apparently the showrunners gave an interview a while back where they said they toyed with the idea of introducing other major Batman rogues in the series but eventually abandoned it because they didn't want to take any opportunities away from Reeves introducing any particular villains in later films. If we're going to get a Batman villain in the series they're not going to be MAJOR villains; it'll be more akin to the crime families we've seen, Magpie, or street level guys like Zasz or Calendar Man.
Wow i really like this theory dude! Like it’s been said i was seeing scarecrow vibes and as a huge Batman fan/comic reader im embarrassed that i forgot all about Mad Hatter 👍
I wouldn't even call what Vic did to Squid villainy. The second I saw Squid talk to Vic in this episode I was like "You have to smoke him asap. He is a liability."...hmm maybe that means I'm a villain. But Squid was nothing but trouble.
Can't believe how consistently great this series has been. I haven't thought about Batman one bit when watching any of these episodes other than the first.
I bet she threatens to take one of their lives and gives Oz the choice to spare one and Oz says his mother and she kills her anyway instead, which will turn Vic against him. But in reality, Vic shouldn't be surprised if that's the way it went down. That's his family.
It can't get any better than the last episode of "The Penguin"! Next episode of " The Penguin": Hold my beer. The best episode so far and the most comic. I don't know how they do it, but please keep going.
I'm pretty sure Victor is going to be left beaten and bloody to deliver the message to Oz that Sophia has his mom. So I don't think Victor is done for yet. Though I'm afraid that Vic won't survive the season. I really want Vic to survive so we can see the character arc they have been setting him up for.
There's an interesting theory about Vic's character arc. Some are saying it mirrors the arc of Jason Todd in the comics. I've no idea, but what a great series this is!
My theory is that Dr. Rush will become The Mad Hatter in this universe. All the clues are there. The new drug is made from mushrooms. His kink is mind-controlling women. The scene with Sofia and the little girl in the atrium in episode 4 had a very fairytale quality to it. Heck, her new fur coat may even be made of rabbit. I just don't think you cast Theo Rossi in a throwaway role, and they're clearly setting up something bigger for his character later on. We know they like to play with the character names too. Oz Cobb, Edward Nashton ect... So Julian Rush could easily become Jervis Tetch. We don't know what happened to the twins in The BATMAN after the flood either, but they were Falcone muscle, so they could bring them back as a take off of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, and you have your new Wonderland Gang to rival The PENGUIN. The story of The Long Halloween/Dark Victory was about how organized crime in Gotham was taken over by the freaks, and Mad Hatter is a character featured in that storyline.
Holy smokes man. The part with his mother, i was balling. Beautiful moment. I love this series more than the Batman film. Really fleshing out characters. Young kid is a great pairing with Oz. Dr. Zaas more likley.
The reason the Penguin is so good is because nobody had faith in it. They didn't think it would be a big enough project to push the Message on. So the writers and showrunner were left alone (for the most part). If the last too epsiodes turn out to be good, then our punishment will be the Batman sequel being the wokest shit you've ever seen.
I have a feeling that Sofia is going to make Oz choose between Vic and his mother; Oz will choose his mother resulting in Vic being murdered by Sofia; and although he saves his mother from Sofia he ultimately has to keep his promise to his mother by ending her her life because her mind is completely gone. It's likely Sofia ending Vic's life that triggers Oz's mother's final mental break as she's come to see him as a surrogate son AND sometimes as one of her actual sons. It'd be bittersweet end: Oz will have ultimately given up Vic for nothing more than the heartbreak of having to end his mother's life himself and the season will come to a close with Oz having nothing in his life to temper his darkness, a blood feud with Sofia and Salvatore that's now been matched on all sides, and Gotham's street-level gangs at his command.
It's Oswald Cobb, not Cobblepot. They changed his last name in this universe to reflect that he doesn't come from money, which the Cobblepot name signifies
Imagine , Before , Oz mom ask oz to kill her by himself , and probably the scene with sofia got into hostage situation 😂 Sofia thought oz couldnt kill his mother , But oz Do it anyway and manage to save vic , sofia got overpowered and ran .. now this is going to be a pay off for the promise that oz made with his mother lmao ,
It would make no sense for Sofia to kill his mother. All she goes on about in the show is how men are bad and how her father murdered innocent women including her mother. So why would she become what she hates
Another mention of the "Elliot" family. Edward Elliot killed by Carmine Falcone for exposing Martha Wayne's psychiatric problems., Edward's son is Thomas Elliot also known as Hush.....HE's definitely coming.
You have to think somebody high up stepped into production of the Penguin and told everyone don't even try to "message". We are going to make a show about an iconic Batman villain that is going to do the character justice, and make people want to watch it. Even the movie The Batman had a little bit of messaging in it, and it was off putting. But the Penguin is just great storytelling, and if there is any message in there then I haven't even noticed.
When you listen to the showrunner/writer talk, you see the message that is taking down the patriarchy. Luckily, though, they don't ruin the show with it and they are talented enough to make it interesting and enjoyable for all
A bit of this so called "messaging" is enough for you to have a meltdown?😂 c'mon kid grow a pair. You immediately jumping to political discourse in entertainment tells everything I need to know.
@sup3414 bro lmao listen to the writer, showrunner, and actors talking about the females in the show 😂 you can't be this dumb to not see it. Luckily they are talented enough that it doesn't ruin the show
I think there is some things going on in front of everyone that they keep missing. Even you Mr H! There is nothing good about Vic, or the Penguin. Vic has killed, mutilated and dealt drugs. He made a deliberate choice of the Penguin over a new life with his girlfriend. He left her waiting for him at a bus station, and he didn't even bother to tell her he wasn't coming. The Penguin is as bad as it is possible to be. What I think everyone is missing is that the Penguin isn't just a crime lord. He is way more than a Falcone, Maroni, or Gigante (with a hand). He has to step up way beyond their level to be a super villain. A villain capable of deceiving Batman, beating Batman, and even killing Batman. All of Batman's villains are in reality way more than threats to Gotham, they are threats to the entire world. Penguin is on a journey to be way more than just the big crime boss in Gotham. And the writers are taking him there on such an awesome path. I've seen people on the show talking about being grounded in the show. The Penguin's cigar, and his fur coat. Well the power was off in Crown Point and it was freezing cold. They gave a reason for the coat! I think Sofia is going to kidnap Oz's mother and Vic. But I don't think either of them will die by her hand. Vic's going to make it into season 2 just fine. And I think the Penguin will have to end his own mother! They have already set this up. Oz's mother asked him to do it for her. Those writers have likely got some genius level story telling in store for how it unfolds. Sofia will find out that holding the Penguin's mother hostage isn't nearly as beneficial to her as she thinks!
I wasn't a fan of the naked guy at the start of this episode. I also thought this was the slowest of all the episodes and I kept falling asleep, both times I watched it. I've watched each episode twice. I hope the last two episodes are great. Right now, I'm at 85% rating.
I thought the previous two episodes were better tbh, this felt like a very good bottle episode, very good but not exceptional like episodes 4 and 5 were. The ending though, man i cannot wait for the outcome to that.
The writer/showrunner she is very woke. Especially if you listen to them talk about the show but the difference between them and other woke people in Hollywood lol they are talented!
Btw I dont think Vic dies. I think having had to kill he knows he doesn't want to. I honestly think he's going to join Batman. What better Robin than one trained by the Penguin.
So do people on this show not have locks on certain doors when the plot requires there to be no locks? How the hell did she get in at the end of this episode? 🫤
When Sofia found Vic and Penguin's mom she had a look on her face like she doesnt want to do what she's about to do but she knows she has to do it. I LOVED that shot at the end. Cristin is an underrated actress.

This is what happens when you let the show makers run the show. If you want creativity you need to just let the creative team play.
HBO is usually pretty good about that sometimes to their downfall. Examples would be GOT, HOTD season 2.
You also gotta have a creative team that not powered by DEI mandates.
let them cook, so far its the best show of the year
