Ah! I actually asked an IP lawyer who also has a PhD in fandom studies about this the other day. (QuestAuthority on 'starts with t, rhymes with itch'.) Their perspective is that in general conlangs are going to be difficult to copyright, and referenced the Klingon Amicus Brief. In this particular instance it's not a full on conlang, but just a conscript, and that'll be even harder, as it's basically just a font. And fonts aren't copyrightable.
Oh wow, thank you for this information! I think thats quite good, actually. It (potentially) means that the BBC wouldn't be able to try and copyright it if that was something they wanted to do later if I'm understanding your friend correctly. That was really my only concern!

I’m currently working at a convention and have been having overwhelmingly positive reception with fans and others who have worked tangentially with the BBC for various doctor who content, THINGS ARE MOVING VERY POSITIVELY with the ‘real world’ connections.
@@ProtagonistIvy(I literally just finished recording a video with people who have done work with Big Finish… so yeah, the worry about lack of credit prolly isn’t worth actually worrying too much about.)
I wrote an email to the BBC’s complaints department about this. If others do so, they may start to see the issue and consider reaching out to the original creators and will give them proper credit.
this video is endlessly helpful, i had a feeling something like this was going on but i never looked into it much. here's hoping ppl talking about it will get the bbc to credit sherman
Aw thank you so much! A lot of people have thought shermans was official for a while, and now that it IS official I'm assuming lots of people will just continue to assume that, so I just want to get the word out!

I actually have the original translator cause at the time there wasn’t an official Gallifreyan alphabet at the time just like there is no official kryptonian alphabet in the Superman universe
There actually was one, Jodie’s 13th Doctor TARDIS technically has translatable gallifreyan, it’s just not this alphabet and they never posted or pushed it like this one
@@ProtagonistIvy after watched the video I looked at the app I have called Gallifreyan and they use the alphabet from the people mentioned in the video and at the time I looked it up to see if the show had an official Gallifreyan alphabet and at that time there wasn’t an official alphabet now it looks like they are canonizing the same alphabet the app I have use
