Billy Strings is part of a new generation of flatpickers that are taking bluegrass guitar to the next level. His personal style isn't for everyone, as can be seen in every bluegrass guitar forum argument of the last 6 months. I've previously covered Billy's playing on Dust In A Baggie, While I'm Waiting Here, Tennessee Stud, and I'm A Lonesome Fugitive. In the future I'll get to other hits like Slow Train, I promise (yes, the one in the van). I do find it interesting that in a scene flooded with Tony Rice imitators that the most popular flatpicker right now is Billy Strings, who is very influenced by Doc Watson!

Haha, sorry for the double request! Awesome that you got after it man. Thanks for all you do!
Away from the mire is the perfect embodiment of this statement, insanely beautiful, drifts beyond recognition and then snaps back into the hook. Some of his live performances he really goes in and by the end, I’ve gotten lost in it and almost forgotten that I was listening to the same track 🤯
Awesome,i have 2 say your the best on TH-cam 4 Tabs and breakin down tunes the way you do..effortlessly!
Im on 2 Billy Strings now,i never knew he existed till i saw him on TH-cam of course.Dust in a baggie did it 2 me..and then i ran into your channel..man i gotta say,the best and by far the easiest breakdown of Dust in a Baggie i've ever come across anywhere on TH-cam or any other website. No 1 comes close 2 your approach on these great lessons..love it!!
Keep up the great work..ill be listening!😊💛👍👌
You’re a legend man
Dude your channel is amazing!! Your lesson videos are some of the clearest, simplest and most well laid out I’ve ever seen. I’ve been a metal and blues player for years and I’ve just been getting into bluegrass more for the past few months (since lockdown started) and the way you break down Billy’s songs (I’m still trying to nail your dust in a baggie one) is amazing and making my life so much easier. Thanks man, loving the content. Big love from the UK. 🤘🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Impresses the hell out of me every time you show how to do this.
This is insanely impressive to watch in real time and thank you for transcribing this so accurately
Legend for this mate, been looking for a guy like this for ages!!!
how does Marcel only have 12.4K subscribers?! wtf?!
I'll see about getting more but they're going to have to be cool like the current 12k.
Only 5k people actually know bluegrass still exists.
He hit 20k today!
Listen, I want to thank you so much because I’ve been playing guitar for 3 years going 4 in March. I haven’t been able to play bluegrass until I found your videos, I thank you SOO MUCH. Much love ❤️. I have your notifications always on.
Yes I’m a billy convert. 35 years of blues / rock playing, trying to fumble my way along with you. So glad I came across this channel. Thanks.
My man you're amazing. Thank you for using your singular ear and talent to break this down for us common folk lol
This has become my absolute favorite TH-cam Channel.
Thank you for all you do to promote this art and help us all.
Billy strings is an amazing performer.. It's cool to watch someone like yourself, with mind blowing playing ! And I found you through dust in a baggie!
This video was awesome man, the only thing I was left wanting was for you to play a run-through alongside the original video 👏🏻👏🏻👊🏼
Dude. You are a national treasure. Thank you!
Was very recently turned on to the genre by listening to a guys cover of spicy drive noodles, then the second tune I learned was dust in a baggie from your video. At the moment I'm finishing the one where he's playing a martin in a guitar store, I'll be back to check this one out after. Great videos!
That was the first Doc Watson tune I ever learned .. I just chorded them . Over time I forgot aboutthe song ..
Billy Strings licks look pretty darned simple ..I think I'm going to revive it again and now that I can flatpick I can juice it up.. I even have a few Ideas of my own.. thanks for posting... I read too slow so I can not read music or tabs .. I just watch the picking... sometimes I'll refer to the tabs if there is a few notes I'm missing... but i will ultimately do my way anyway... thanks for posting..
Have been waiting for this
Thats really impressive. Very thankfull for putting this for free. It would be nice you doing the Wild Bill Jones arrangement by Billy Strings, you can check it on the "Soundcheck AVL - Billy Strings" video on youtube. Its a nice song, and Billy's arangement for guitar is perfect. I can't find any other lesson for this song for the guitar, its all Banjo's.
Just discovered this channel. Wow!! It's great! Subscribed. :)
Thank you for another great video.
thank you marcel you are king x
Thanks for all you do. Great job!
At first I thought you were going to transcribe the entire thing without picking up a guitar lmao. Still super impressive!
Outstanding
These are really helpful, man. Keep it up!
Thanks for the sheet music!
Love it , hello from Ireland
Thanks Marcel!!! Next "Lost John" from the "Carter Vintage Guitars" video
Yes!!!! Please Marcel!!
Brilliant!
Hey Marcel! Thank you for the videos, you are an amazing teacher. I'm so intrigued with Billy Strings right now and am loving the bluegrass style guitar stuff. I am however new to learning any of this bluegrass stuff. This seems pretty complex for me. I have all the basics of guitar down and can play many songs and chords easily. Is there something you'd recommend to help me find this tutorial less difficult? Or do I just need to dive right in and practice, practice, practice?
Bluegrass is tough! It's a discipline and people spend their lives practicing, don't get discouraged if this feels tough. This break has a lot of fundamentals that will be super useful but you might try learning a couple of fiddle tunes first just to get the mechanics down! Check out my video on Red Haired Boy and the one called "3 Fiddle Tunes For Your First Bluegrass Jam" if you want to start with something a little more approachable!
@@LessonsWithMarcel Yeah you are right! Thank you man. I will definitely give that video a watch!!
Great video! Can I ask what kind of guitar you are playing? I really like the sound and the spacing in between the strings....
YOUR GREAT !!
Nice! Do you think you'll tackle 'turmoil and tinfoil' at some point?
Definitely going to do more Billy Strings! Haven't picked any specifics yet though.
@@LessonsWithMarcel turmoil and tinfoil is a must
Hey Marcel, I've just noticed at 1.42 in Billy's video, if you slow it down to .75 you hear a crazy pull off you cant hear at normal speed, maybe it was acstidentel
Very helpful tabs. Many thanks! If anyone is interested in the rhythm sections there is a channel called vogel music school that made a very clear lesson on that. I'm combining both lessons to learn this tune :)
can i get the Guitar pro file for this? instead of the pdf
The first part of the intro sounded like browns ferry blues until he hit the c suprising how much all songs have on common when you really listen. All that aside you do an awesome job tabbing stuff out and I find it easier to learn the fills when I'm seeing you tab it all out no clue why but appreciate all the free videos!
How do you down load this tab?
do you edit your own videos bro? What do you use?
When I'm transcribing I'm using Guitar Pro and arranging everything on the screen with OBS. Audio is recorded through an Audiobox and Studio One. Afterwards I sync and edit the footage in Premiere Pro, some animated items are made in After Effects, icons and graphics made in Illustrator, and the thumbnails are made in Photoshop!
Very good tab, i play the first notes like brown's ferry blues and Billy did in the very end of the song a little walk, just like he did in preacher and the bear
e-3-0-----------------
b------3-0------------
g-------------3p2p0
and this little walk to the D7 chord every second time in the lyrics
e----------2
b----------1
g----------2
d-2-1-0---
Thanks man, you are god
Great stuff! Maybe do "Turmoil and Tinfoil" or "Meet Me at the Creek" next?? Thanks!
Can you Transcribe "No more paper logs"
Nice video good job , somone cant write the lyric here for me plz.
“Converted” lol guilty!!
What software is that?
3:03
Does this guy like Billy Strings?
I think it would be best to just go straight thrue the whole song and not stop all the time. with the tabs there it's not necessary, my two cents.
Technology is a wonderful thing, back in the day it would take days to pick a solo or other section out of a song!
