  • We needed another handy little city car for the Sydney office, and plenty of makes and models were bandied around. But this, the 2016 Honda Jazz VTi-S, is the model we chose as our latest live-in lover.

This randomly came up in my suggested vids only now in 2023, but I watched because I owned one of these from 2016 to 2020. There are a few points of note which differ to or augment this review, . For starters the headlights do switch off by themselves. Once the light switch is in any position other than "off", the lights will automatically turn off after 30 seconds when you switch off the engine. I found this very useful because since it does not have dedicated DRLs, it meant that you have the park and foglights on all the time even during the day to act like DRLs, and you never have to touch the light switch. It also means you can light your way to your home at night and get inside safely. As for the cabin noise, I did find it a bit loud but that's entirely due to the budget tyres it comes with from factory. I changed tyres after about 2 years, and the ride was significantly quieter with more premium tyres and going up a size to 195 55r16. It also has a lot of features which you won't immediately realize unless you study the brochure, and/or owner's manual. I appreciated the hill-start assist which works in both forward and reverse gears, you can open the driver's door by a double-pull of the door handle even when the central locking is in its locked status, and the rear wiper activates automatically if the front wipers are on and put the car into reverse. Lastly, the spare wheel is a full 5th alloy wheel, so if you happened to curb one of the rims, you have a back-up.

I don't know about the Aussie spec Honda Jazz, but in Indonesia, even the top spec Honda Jazz RS doesn't come with rear disc brakes. Such a shame Honda decided to remove it in their latest Jazz when the previous gen had it. I think Mazda2 is a much better option in this segment.

Doli Panjaitan Mazda2 also has rear drums even in top spec

1.5 big for it's size? You gotta be joking!!! 5.8 liters per 100km..... that's pretty thrifty....

The Jazz 1.5 is a gem of a motor and well suited to my manual, revvy up high, reasonably torquy down low, 88kw Vs the 76kw from my previous 1.6ltr '05 Fiesta. The Fiesta handled better though with similar tyres.
