I have the 1994 CD which came with a very nice booklet. The one unusual thing that always struck me was on the bonus track "You Can't Fight Lightning": Ringo is on guitar and Paul is n drums.
I've never put gloves on to handle my vinyl albums or CDs... sometimes people go a bit too far, ha ha. I was also really impressed with the Blindman vinyl release, which included a poster and the colored vinyl was superb too.
I grabbed Red Rose Speedway. Absolutely fantastic pressing. The half speed mastering really does make a difference compared to my original pressing. Also grabbed Beggar’s Banquet with the splatter vinyl.
Great video..I got the Wings album and Ringo CD..I got to the Record store around 545 am..behind about 120 people. Got in around 815. Had breakfast with my other shoppers around 930...fun day..and I got everything I wanted..And I too have a BIG new love for Red Rose..it is awesome..thanks Andrew..enjoy 😎😎
very nice Andrew. I still have my original RRS from 1973 and also the Columbia version when Paul switched labels in the early 1980s both sound very good to these old ears 12:29
Always great to check in on your videos, Andrew. I'm still in the middle of the amazing McCartney Legacy book vol 1, so it's been fun to listen to the early albums as I read about what was happening day by day at the time. And this Red Rose half-speed release arrives just after I finished that section! Really hoping for Band on the Run anniversary, too. I wonder how the new Ringo LP (beautiful vinyl!) compares to the original pressing? Thanks, Jason
I had a 3 hour queue this morning waiting in line for my turn to enter the record store. I was dead lucky that there was one copy left of Red Rose Speedway that I was ably to purchase ! It's a great sounding record !
Thanks Andrew as always much appreciated, queued in liverpool for over 3 hours only to be told McCartney had sold out when I got to the door was gutted but have since been in touch with your friends in Revolution Records in Selby and got the last copy such lovely people recommend them to everyone will definitely be purchasing a lot more from them in the future 👍🎸
I love that colored vinyl on Ringo's Roses LP. Very cool. Can't wait for 50th anniv. of BOTR. Will be fantastic for sure! Thx Andrew! Hey man, who do I need to talk to over there to see about having you Knighted? You've more than done your part of carrying The Beatles flag. At least an MBE!
I did manage going to the nearest record shop today. Still plenty "Red rose speedway" lp's and 3 John Lennon sets. The Lennon set did look nice, but at 500 euro I didn't take one home. In the end I only got the Ringo cd, believe it was the only copy, didn't see the vinyl version but I have the original lp already. Nice to have the bonus tracks, some are really good.
Morning (evening) Andrew. Just got back from Newbury in Nashua. 150 at least, in line. I was able to pick up 2 copies of Red Rose, but John Lennon sold out immediately, first customer that got in the store. Sadly the store didn’t order Ringo’s vinyl at all. Taylor Swift? The store got 100 copies and sold them all in the first hour! 🙄 When I left the store, the remaining Red Rose were still there 😢.
I was able to get the CD of Stop And Smell The Roses as well as the Vinyl, the Vinyl of Red Rose Speedway and a Doctor Who Album. My first Recordstore Day. Roll on the next one.
Got my Ringo album, which came with a big sticker. My local record store said they were original 1981 promo stickers and were only being given away through their shop.
The John Lennon box set was £345.in local record store today. I'd rather get a new Guitar with that money and hav a more enjoyment from that, I got Red Rose Speedway today and the Joe Strummer streetcore on Dark Horse label, great info as usual Andrew 👌
The items on record store day are often out of stock far too soon, as merchants buy them up and resell them for exorbitant prices not long after. This has nothing to do with those merchants' love for music, and we pay the top price from them if you want an item after the rsd !
Hi Andrew glad you got what you was after I got in my queue at 4am an was 13th in the queue but was able to get 10 of the titles that I was after there was another 4 that I wanted but I set myself a 300 quid limit an ended up just below that, I got canned heat, jazz dispensary, elvis, rolling stones, soho scene, koko Taylor,Newport rebels,Ernest ranging, west coast soul and memphis soul so a good day I'm gona try and get my remaining 4 from Monday, have a good day...
Thank you, I enjoyed your john lennon 10inch review that you did an must admit I was tempted but talked myself out of it, I didn't get the paul mccartney because I have the archive edition of that album in your opinion is there that much difference between the archive an rsd version of red rose speedway..
Just getting ready to head out. Hoping to score exactly what you got. Minus the Lennon set though. And plus the Ringo CD. Hopefully it’s not snowing yet here in North Dakota.
Finally I hold a copy of Ringo´s album in my hands - with a little help from a danish shop. Still no signs by the Harrison camp? I really thought we would hear something about Living In The Material World these days...
Wonderful to see the new issues. Thank you for showing your new purchases. Be interesting to compare with the sound from the original 1973 issue. A head to head, like for like, the gloves are off style comparison 😅
I just watched a video from the Victoria & Albert Museum. The librarian presented a 400-year-old 'First Folio' by Shakespeare, and she handled it WITHOUT GLOVES. She explained that there's been a change of policy: as long as you thoroughly wash your hands, it's OK to handle priceless artifacts. So you can carry on handling your records without gloves with the full blessing of the V&A Museum!
Great Andrew , l picked up Red Rose speedway too. His best , my favourite , wonderful. And Don't shoot me , Elton John. Cheers take care Damien. Record store day in Bendigo today Australia.😊
Hi Andrew, thank you for this. Just wondering if the Red Rose Speedway reissue had the braille message that the original had (presumably for Stevie Wonder at the time).
Congrats Andrew! I had no luck, but it´s difficult to find good record shops in northwestern Germany anyway ;) As I read, there were RSD releases of Old Wave and Ringo the 4th one or two years ago - you didn´t buy these, didn´t you? It´s strange with Ringo, he just do not promote these RSD releases. Now fingers crossed that the George Camp announce a LITMW 50th Anniversary Remix soon...
Looks like a decent haul, Andrew. All I wanted was the Red Rose Speedway. Luckily the crowd at my local rinky dink record store was mostly Swifties, so I managed to grab the lone copy of Paul. And as I expected, neither Ringo nor the Gimme Some Truth box at the shop today. It's not something I would want, but the RSD Blindman soundtrack looks very nicely done.
I got to the queue at 7:30am and queued for 3hrs 35mins at David's Music shop in Letchworth. I wanted Simple Minds and A Flock of Seagulls. I got SM but they sold out of Seagulls as I was queuing in the shop. So I got The Conversation OST to make up for it. I then went to the first ever Revolution Records in Stevenage. They weren't doing RSD, but of course the whole point of the day is to shop in Independent music shops. I found a SH copy of The Doobie Brothers The Captain and Me, which I was after, and I have been listening to Simon and Garfunkel on Spotify recently, so I got SH copy of Bridge of Troubled Water. It was my first time queuing before the shop opened its doors in RSD, and it was quite the experience.
@@AndrewDixonMusic I'm not sure if stores make any profit from it all. I thought they might as they set a price for each vinyl. The one I got I saw go for between £25 to £31, mine was £28. I think the Stevenage store did it in the past, but someone in the queue infront of me said the owner wasn't doing it this year, so I presumed it was too much effort for little reward may be.
Very nice Andrew (though hadn't pegged you as a Maiden fan!). I've been revisiting Stops and Smell the Roses recently - I've got an original of it from back in the day. It's better than I remembered! I was once slagged off by a commenter for apparently taking a record out of the sleeve 'in the wrong way'.
How dare we not do it the way others demand us to.... Not exactly a Maiden fan James, but Run To The Hills and Number Of the Beast were huge songs for me back in the early 80s.
Congrats Andrew on getting what you went after. Was unsure about getting Ringos but after seeing your copy I think I will try for that one in vinyl as well as Pauls. Fingers crossed my store will have both. Take care!
It's hard for me to justify the Red Rose Speedway purchase when i dont have any of the 2018 versions yet. All the great live stuff and extra tracks that are on the re-imagined 2018 2LP version and on the other 2018 remaster + extra disc release are too good to pass up for a remaster. It's a bummer that you have to buy both 2018 albums to have all the extra tracks. some songs like Tragedy, 1882, and I would only Smile are exclusive to one or the other
Was no. 26 in my local record shop queue and managed to get a copy of the John Lennon Boxset and the Paul McCartney Red Rose Speedway but no Ringo Starr vinyl left. Please with the two I got though.
Hey Andrew. That pic of you standing in line during RSD2023, man you didn't looked to happy out there. Myself, after staying up late watching the final episode of "Picard Season 3"(which was excellent by the way), I went to take a 3 hour nap, woke at 7:30am, showered, got dressed and took a Lyft(another version of a cab) and arrived at one of my Record Stores at 11am and got everything I wanted including "Red Rose Speedway" plus I picked up a copy of the 2 Record Set of "Red Rose Speedway" that came out in 2018 since I didn't have a copy of that version in my collection. And yes I can't wait for "Band On The Run" which I bet it will drop on Black Friday RSD2023 in November. I guess when all of that is done, I think Paul will release "London Town" & "Back To the Egg" next year since the next half speed vinyl will be "Venus & Mars" coming out in 2025(the studio "Sea Saint Studios was in done in my hometown New Orleans, La. and the studio is one or two miles away from my childhood home). The studio was destroyed thanks to Hurricane Katrina. Anyway great video Andrew. Oh P.S. I'm surprised you didn't pick up the color vinyl version of The Stones' "Beggar's Banquet".
I did pick up the Red Rose Speedway 1/2 Speed Master today. Along with the Wilco Alternate Yankee Foxtrot disc. And, because it was there, I picked up the Taylor Swift Pond Sessions album. Think I'll keep that one sealed for awhile. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Folklore, and the Pond Sessions documentary. Just don't know if I'd play the album of it though. I didn't go for the Stop & Smell The Roses, as I already have a sealed copy from a few years ago, plus a near mint used copy I bought recently as well. Only so much disposable cash these days, and sacrifices had to be made! Cheers!
Was tempted by the Lennon set until I saw the price. Went with Marc Almond’s “Fantastic Star” (never before released on vinyl) and a punk record by the Hoax with Mike Joyce (The Smiths) on drums!
Hi Andrew gave RSD a miss this year got all of Ringo's stuff on vinyl anyway and have red rose 3 times on vinyl too. I noticed on the obi on Ringo's album the first thing it says is 1981 after the Beatles i did chuckle at that, i wonder what's that all about, it's not going to be before the Beatles is it lol anyway i just thought that was funny advertising take care by the way the Ringo album does look good.
I think they were trying to squeeze the word Beatles on the cover, then covering the backs by almost suggesting "but don't expect Beatles quality here!"
I really enjoy your reviews here across the pond (actually on the Left Coast/California). I am surprised that you didn't say whether or not Red Rose Speedway reissue had the braille message that the original had. One would have thought that Paul would have seen to that!
I went in on Saturday but the queue was massive. Sunday was better and was able to get what I wanted very easily. Too be honest there wasn't much that interested me. Never heard the Ringo record but looks like a very nice set.
I hope they keep releasing Ringo albums on rsd especially those from the 90’s-00’s that never got a vinyl release. As for Paul, sure give us a BOTR 1/2 speed for the black friday rsd later this year, in the meantime let’s get some more archive sets
Well, I managed to get the Ringo and the 1/2 speed RRS. This was the first Macca 1/2 speed I picked up, and damn now I’m going to have to track down the other ones aren’t I
I've recently come to appreciate Red Rose Speedway as well. I remember how "meh" the Wild Life & RRS were originally received, myself included. I mean Paul was a lead Beatle and we just expected a little more. Fortunately, after RRS came the amazing James Bond single, Live & Let Die followed by the Band on the Run album. Then is was, "YES, Paul is back!"
Well, I wasn't able to get the John Lennon Box Set. I went to two different record stores. The first store only received two copies, and the second store only received one copy. I couldn't afford it anyway. I was told that they sold for $400.00 each. You are so lucky, Andrew.
@Andrew Dixon it's probably because they know you are a decent guy that's going to respect their wishes. I can't believe that the box set was selling for $400.00. There all sorts of box sets from other artists on Record Store Day that sell for much less. I don't know who set the price on that, but that's pretty crappy.
The Lennon boxes have generally been the best value for money, Imagine at about £65 was a great set, A lot more content on plastic Ono Band but a higher price so maybe equals it out.
Nice haul you've got there, as for the Maiden 40th I couldn't bring myself to buy yet another copy especially given they've removed Gangland from the tracklist. Add a track on the end by all means but removing a track off an anniversary edition of a classic album is ridiculous. Sorry for the non-RSD rant!
My first copy of the album. That's annoying if there's a track missing, is there a story behind that do you know? Were there original versions of the album missing that song?
@@AndrewDixonMusic It was on all original versions but they decided 40 years later that Total Eclipse (a b-side) should replace Gangland in the tracklisting as they prefer it. Total Eclipse is a great track so fair enough to include it as a bonus but not if you're removing another track to do it.
Can't imagine your videos with you wearing gloves! Likely to sbe slow and duller although maybe less risk of dropping discs! Great work down at your record store! Just at end of ram recording in my legacy book.a great read.
Hi, I went for Ringo Stop And Smell The Roses and Pau McCartney & Wings Red Rose Speedway and a 5 piece 7inch David Bowie - Laughing With Liza box set. In my opinion the John Lennon box set is the most unnecessary set. Ain't talking about a cash grab but ..... I bought the vinyl and cd set a few years ago. Over here in the Netherlands I had to pay 49,99 for Red Rose Speedway and 44,99 for Stop And Smell The Roses. The Bowie set was 74,99. And now I've got an empty wallet😊 I tweeted yesterday if it was a coincidence the "Rose" thing from Paul and Ringo. Enjoy listening and take care.
Hi Pe, I saw that Bowie box on the counter in the shop I went in, looked interesting but I didn't know enough about what it was to be able to decide to buy it.
Nice pickups… that Lennon set is nice .. well done .. it’s gone to a good home … One of the best RSD releases I have was All Things Must Pass .. from a good few years ago … nice .. numbered and just like the original.. it’s also all analog and sound fantastic… In true I have found RSD a bit flat the last few years .. but of course that’s down to my choices … I do have some very nice items from past years though… All ways hope people find what they like and don’t pay the scalpers… not worth it …
@Andrew Dixon I got the Red Rose Speedway album and Stop and Smell the Roses album. I also got the Stones Beggars Banquet album. I also wanted to get the Police album Syncronicity because I heard it was on 10" vinyl, but I couldn't find it, so I am assuming it sold out
Why aren't you wearing a hazmat suit when you are touching your vinyl records?!😅😂 Anyway, I'm getting a late start but I'm almost to my record store. 63 miles from where I live, and the roads are bad because it snowed. Wish me luck!
Andrew, how’s your RSD, you purchased awesome albums, I have to purchase mine, Paul McCartney looks good, and Ringos album is awesome the colored vinyl fantastic, I like the tie in, your review as always perfect, My Friend have a Safe day,TakeCare, see you on the next one, Steve
“Wearing gloves “ that made me smile. O dear me, records are made to be played not kept in a bank vault!! Contrary wise as a guitarist yourself you’ll know about the “vintage used models.” I knew a guy who bought a new telecaster. Disassembled it, then dragged the body along behind his jeep to try and give it that “beat up vintage look”. Aaaaaaaagggghhhhhhh!!!!
Is there really any reason to buy the McCartney album if you have the Archive album from a couple years ago?? So what about the half speed version Hard to tell the difference It’s nice they sent you the Lennon box but that is 425 bucks and nothing new That is a pointless purchase
After seeing many VC vids over the years about it, I;m so out of it I still don;t know what Record Store Day is. All I know is back in the 70s/80s, I'd get the bus or the bike into town to hit a cpl of Market St record chain stores and the 2nd hand record stalls in the Corn Exchange like Ron's jazz records and also Mark's Rare Record shop outside the Corn Exchange and 2 or 3 2nd hand record shops in the Northern Quarter before it was the Northern Quarter and the small outdoor market where you could pick up a cheap damp copy of an OOP jazz record and over to PICADDILLY RECORDS and down to Oxford Rd to hit YANKS import record basement shop where Morrissey used to serve till he was duffed up and then into John Dalton St for yet another RARE RECORDS shop good for soundtracks and classical and then down Deansgate to Blackfriars to drop into ROBINSON'S RECORDS where Marmalade the fat ginger cat walked along the top of the long banks of records to hassle you for a stroke while you're looking for rarities always bound to find something and then hand over your pounds and pence to the sad aura of the woman who looked like Yootha Joyce but somehow suggested a libido that would leave you with nothing but your shoes and socks if she ever pounced so when you *were* leafing through the long banks of records and your peripheral vision sensed something padding your way you would always look twice to make sure it was Marmalade and not Yootha Joyce...
I'm with you Andrew it's ridiculous to see people wearing gloves to handle all their records. I mean fair enough if it's some one of a kind thing or something extremely extremely valuable then maybe. But I own a couple of rare things and records now worth a couple of hundred and I DO NOT AND WILL NOT USE GLOVES. These aren't the only ones in the world and most of all they're MINE.
I totally agree with you. Records are to be enjoyed and played!
Congratulations Mr. Dixon, on these wonderful additions to your collection. 🎶🎵👍

I e never bought a Stones album on vinyl, thouyindid try and get the recent Mono box but was too late.
Andrew. The guy who suggested you wear gloves is wrong. You should be wearing a boiler suit and pick 'em up with disinfected tongs.
I'm in talks with the NASA about getting hold of some astronaut space suits.
I really enjoy your reviews here across the pond (actually on the Left Coast/California). I am surprised that you didn't say whether or not Red Rose Speedway reissue had the braille message that the original had. One would have thought that Paul would have seen to that!
Andrew, any response ti my comment?
I went in on Saturday but the queue was massive. Sunday was better and was able to get what I wanted very easily. Too be honest there wasn't much that interested me. Never heard the Ringo record but looks like a very nice set.
I hope they keep releasing Ringo albums on rsd especially those from the 90’s-00’s that never got a vinyl release.
As for Paul, sure give us a BOTR 1/2 speed for the black friday rsd later this year, in the meantime let’s get some more archive sets
Reissue Scouse the Mouse.
Ecce Cor Meum on vinyl.
@@quiricomazarin476 you might be joking, but I’d be all for it
Well, I managed to get the Ringo and the 1/2 speed RRS. This was the first Macca 1/2 speed I picked up, and damn now I’m going to have to track down the other ones aren’t I
McCartney is the best so far in my opinion.
The bonus tracks on ringo,s album are definitely on his original cd release from 1994 as you mentioned
I love a good Dijon rant.
Brilliant 😂
Got what I wanted. The John Lennon box they didn't have it. But was coming? Price has dropped to £300 ???.
Did your shop of it??
No my shop didn't order any in.
Well, I wasn't able to get the John Lennon Box Set. I went to two different record stores. The first store only received two copies, and the second store only received one copy.
I couldn't afford it anyway. I was told that they sold for $400.00 each. You are so lucky, Andrew.
I know, and I don't take it for granted 👍
@Andrew Dixon it's probably because they know you are a decent guy that's going to respect their wishes. I can't believe that the box set was selling for $400.00. There all sorts of box sets from other artists on Record Store Day that sell for much less. I don't know who set the price on that, but that's pretty crappy.
Of all the Beatles' solo reissues, which do you feel is the greatest value? Which is your personal favorite? Mine is John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.
The Lennon boxes have generally been the best value for money, Imagine at about £65 was a great set, A lot more content on plastic Ono Band but a higher price so maybe equals it out.
Bought 2 red rose speedway RSD. One to listen and one to keep unopened.
Good luck!
I managed to get red rose speedway, blur and Elton ... Got to my shop at 5 and was number 23 ... Buzzing. Enjoy pal
Nice one. I had Blur in my hands but the £40 price tag was staring at me too hard so I put it back!
@@AndrewDixonMusic I had to grab it mate ... Would of kicked myself if I didn't! Also got a nice Elton poster thrown in 👍
Nice haul you've got there, as for the Maiden 40th I couldn't bring myself to buy yet another copy especially given they've removed Gangland from the tracklist.
The Ringo vinyl looks awesome
It absolutely does!
Hi,
I went for Ringo Stop And Smell The Roses and Pau McCartney & Wings Red Rose Speedway and a 5 piece 7inch David Bowie - Laughing With Liza box set.
And now I've got an empty wallet😊
I tweeted yesterday if it was a coincidence the "Rose" thing from Paul and Ringo.
Enjoy listening and take care.
Hi Pe, I saw that Bowie box on the counter in the shop I went in, looked interesting but I didn't know enough about what it was to be able to decide to buy it.
@Andrew Dixon
The Bowie box contains some 5 Bowie 7inch from 1964-1967. Mostly the Deram recordings and an pre-version of Space Oddity.
Nice pickups… that Lennon set is nice .. well done .. it’s gone to a good home …
One of the best RSD releases I have was All Things Must Pass .. from a good few years ago … nice .. numbered and just like the original.. it’s also all analog and sound fantastic…
In true I have found RSD a bit flat the last few years .. but of course that’s down to my choices … I do have some very nice items from past years though…
All ways hope people find what they like and don’t pay the scalpers… not worth it …
UP THE IRONS!
Roses album features 2 McCartney and 1 Harrison song.
I just got here, and there is a huge line. They opened at 8:00 and it's almost 9:00. And it's still snowing! Ugh!!
Did you get what you hoped for?
@Andrew Dixon I got the Red Rose Speedway album and Stop and Smell the Roses album. I also got the Stones Beggars Banquet album. I also wanted to get the Police album Syncronicity because I heard it was on 10" vinyl, but I couldn't find it, so I am assuming it sold out
Stephen Stills on the ringo album? Now I'm intrigued
John Lennon rsd has 9 vynil …the number John preferred……number 9,number 9………thanks to Yoko and Sean
Managed to get Wings & Elton John, pleased with that as I couldn’t get there until 11! It was the last Wings one too. Taylor Swift all sold out!!
Love the comment about gloves 😂
Records are a tactile experience.
Nice Maiden!
Bout time we saw Andrew in his cut off denim and HM patches..🤘
@@deantaylor1512 deep down I knew he had it in him!
@@toms4442 😂
Why aren't you wearing a hazmat suit when you are touching your vinyl records?!😅😂 Anyway, I'm getting a late start but I'm almost to my record store. 63 miles from where I live, and the roads are bad because it snowed. Wish me luck!
Good luck!
the wearing of gloves is a bit extreme, but once youve bought your vinyl, do you then put them all in clear cover sleeves ?
I do!
Number nine in the Q John Lennon’s favourite number nine
Good shout!
😄. 😯
Wish I'd put a fiver on "Yootha Joyce getting a mention in my comments today!!
A how much is a Beatles coin worth but all four players on like a brass coin
Archive vs half speed session required
I'm ready. Name the date. I have an older copy also, need to check when from, 80s at the latest.
Interesting
@@haberjennings475 Do you have a copy to throw in the mix?
I'm with you Andrew it's ridiculous to see people wearing gloves to handle all their records. I mean fair enough if it's some one of a kind thing or something extremely extremely valuable then maybe. But I own a couple of rare things and records now worth a couple of hundred and I DO NOT AND WILL NOT USE GLOVES. These aren't the only ones in the world and most of all they're MINE.
Yep, I'll always make sure I've got clean hands before handling vinyl but beyond that is too much.
Gloves? 😂 Anyway, congrats on nabbing these!
It looks too fancy to play.
Congratulations. The early bird has three tasty worms
