I love how the trio diss the fans of the OG for having a bias with the OG cast, I think it really works because of nostalgia. I think the same would apply to the Animated movie Fun Fact: I've never seen both movies
My personal opinion on this movie: the stuff from the book is pretty good in the movie (the safe/microwave joke and the kidnapping sign joke, to name a couple things), but the new stuff is just ridiculous (like the stuff about memes and gaming streamers… it just feels like it goes against what DOAWK is). The script is solid but I think this movie’s worst offense is just that the actors don’t seem to have any chemistry with each other (and the casting is meh), whereas the original movies put a lot of effort into cast bonding time before filming to really sell the family dynamic on camera. Also it just so happens that Zachary Gordon and Devon Bostick played their respective roles so naturally that the actors in this movie kind of paled in comparison. Greg Heffley shouldn’t come across as *just* an obnoxious child who tries to get what he wants, he should also come across as a kid who thinks he knows everything and almost always believes he’s right as if it’s a well-known fact. This is his diary after all, and he’s a wannabe “cool kid”. Jason Drucker’s performance as Greg is only half there imo, and it’s probably not even his fault. And as everyone already noticed, Charlie Wright doesn’t portray the “cool factor” that Rodrick should have. As you said, he doesn’t look like he’s actually in a band, lol. …Oh yeah, and the intro music SUCKS!
I follow the OG DOWK actors on insta and they literally still hang out casually and reminisce on their time on the set! Like you can feel their love for eachother through the screen!
Exactly. You don't really feel like they're a family in this movie, it just doesn't work. The other three (especially Roderick Rules) had such great chemistry between the cast and it felt like great adaptations of the books, even if they changed a few things. I don't like calling The Long Haul a DOAWK movie, really. It feels more like a ripoff with bad actors and stupid meme jokes written by people who don't get memes at all and just want to relate to kids.
I would say it's bad mostly because Jeff Kinney is unfortunately kind of a boomer now and is very anti-technology, which was what "The Long Haul" and "Cabin Fever" were about. There's no way he would ever make references like that in his books, especially now.
The guy who played greg's dad in this movie also starred in That Thing You Do (my favorite movie of all time), which Steve Zahn, who played greg's dad in the first ones, was also a main character in.
4:44 DoaWK Home Alone style: Greg tells the robbers there’s the old tunnel in the basement our grandfather kept this really big chest? _*3 days later_ Greg’s walks by the fridge & see’s the dates of the road trip on the fridge & thinks “OH NO! Yeah, the early books are nostalgic but they gradually got worse as they went on. Jeff Kinney started forcing his opinions on technology into his books, the book of this movie and "Cabin Fever" have a lot of "phone bad book good" vibes in them.
@@AluminumFusion22 I thought it was the opposite because Susan was the only one pushing phone bad while everyone else disagreed. Going by the books, Greg never agreed with Susan and actually sorta proved that banning electronics was a BAD idea.

I still hate this movie with a burning passion, but this video gave me a unique opinion on it seeing how well their reasoning to why it’s good. It’s nice to see someone like a usually hated movie but have a very good and well made reason to why it’s actually good.
Well, I know you may hate me for saying this, but I've ALWAYS shared the exact same opinion that they're expressing here. I've actually always liked this movie way better than Dog Days. (Although I agree that as amusing a Rodrick as Charlie Wright is, Devon Bostick will always be my Rodrick.)
Even though they reviewed all 4 live action movies they still have one major key factor in all of the reviews. They love and I mean LOVE to hate the living crap out of Greg. Why? Is it because he’s a sociopath?
@@jaxsterminator8634 kinda just my opinion, but the original trilogy was like, so bad its good type of stuff since it had a lot of stuff going on, but from the little of the animated movie ive seen, i was pretty disappointed how boring it ended up being and the artystyle wasnt too nice tbh

The man is also a chad at making people have low expectations of him so he could then impress them by doing something so minimal.
You're kidding right? His dad is a nice guy working hard supporting 3 kids and his wife

9:36 The fact that my mom has done this exact thing, and continues to do similar things is crazy. My FAMILY OF SEVEN sat in the car for 9 hours listening to a crappy audiobook.
Also I hate how much the mom from the movie looks like the fairy godmother from Shrek.
21:37 what you do is take a poop that’s so big it immediately shames anyone else who poops there
12:57 no way! I think I stayed in that same Hampton Inn. I was a young kid and only remember getting hotel breakfast for the first time there, but I never looked under my bed.
I have sad news my friends as of yesterday, my household microwave of 27 years wore out and died. I am in the process of grieving.
The most rebellious thing i ever did as a kid was going to a friends house to watch South Park movie.

funny how the originals were somewhat relatable to middle schoolers, and this one is just "phone bad haha"
65% of Susan's dialogue was just "phone bad grrr look at all the boring shit grrr"
I LOVE THIS FORMAT! It breeds for like a more intimate experience if that makes sense.
I have never snuck out of my house. what purpose would I have that would be important enough to SNEAK OUT of the place that has my $2500.00 worth of Transformers?

@10:07 100% Accurate. I've lived in Wyoming my whole life. Road trips are so f ing boring.
At least you guys have an unreasonably cool state sign
You’re not real Wyoming is not real
From all the stuff I've dealt with today just seeing you guys made it a whole lot better and I swear to every version of the universe this is great seeing you guys making my day better thank you
Probably one of the most interesting and unique microwave society videos ever.
@@AGPfan well told
You know why I love this video, it proves that you should never have you opinion influenced, and no amount of disagreements will change it.

Even though they reviewed all 4 live action movies they still have one major key factor in all of the reviews.
They love and I mean LOVE to hate the living crap out of Greg.
Why? Is it because he’s a sociopath?
Yes plus the second version is just plain annoying
Its because hes so hecking ANNOYYYINNGGGG
At least in the books he was a likeable sociopath

I watched this with a friend. I loved it, he hated it. He was actually shocked that I laughed so much. Now I know I wasn't TOO crazy! :)
Well, as these guys said, your friend, like the many detractors this movie has, may just be biased toward the original actors.

Yeah, this movie was pretty funny at times, and it’s better than dog days for sure, but I just miss the original Rodrick, he just IS Rodrick. But this Rodrick is still good. My favorite is definitely Rodrick rules tho
I agree with you 100%, I like this movie better than Dog Days, but Devon Bostick will ALWAYS be Rodrick. But even though I love Rodrick Rules, I’d say the original is the best.
