The audio in those slow motion clips was quite satisfying!

Clocks make a lot of odd noises that go unnoticed at regular speed.

I love how the slow motion allows me to hear the gears meshing!

Sure makes one more aware of the mechanical nature of gears and levers working with each other.

The slow motion of the strike at the end is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a clock related video - the CLANG sound when the rack drops, the BONGGGG sound with each strike of the hammer. Nice job rebushing the main wheels, and as always you have helpful tips such as using a ball bearing to swage the bushing onto the plate. Your videos are the best.

Ball bearings of several sizes come in handy when working soft metals like brass, for holes they are self centering apply equal pressure on all sides and leave a highly polished surface.
I don't like dealing with those chromed pivots, especially when the chrome is applied over a rough one like the above.

I'm actually quite surprised that one of these clocks made it to your workshop. It's not a bad thing but I was never expecting to find a clock that common in one of your videos. Great restoration job tho! That slow motion part at the end was sooo satisfying!

I had the same thought. The inferiority of its materials made it a sort of throwaway in my mind but one never knows what sentimental value may be attached

I want to say thank you for your work, it's like watching magic happen before your very eyes.

The new bigger beefier brass bushings are beautiful.

I am surprised the mainspring spring pivots lasted 40 years with as rough as they were in such thin brass, the new ones should out last the owner.

I bought this same clock in the mid 1980s, it stopped working a few years ago and I found the same exact issues. I made plastic bushings to fill in the worn out holes since I didn't feel like tearing it completely apart at the time, someday I'll do a proper fix with brass bushings. I will certainly be stealing the idea of using thicker ones so they last longer.
Many years ago I removed the fake weights, I like the look better without them.

Thanks for this video. Nice to hear and see you again. Also nice to see you using a "Boley" from Esslingen.
For years I was their technical specialist in a large part of Europe. Greetings from the Netherlands.

These are an inexpensive movement but this one made it 40 years so I'll have to say they are dependable movements.

@@jamesmartin5370 I doubt that the clock works for a month without recharging🤔

These types of clocks can sometimes be picked up for under $20 at thrift stores because there is no key. Keys are easy to purchase on-line. I have found ebay is not a good place to pick up clocks for cheap just because the seller says, ‘no key’. Usually these clocks have been abused.

As "cheap" as this movement is, it's so nice to see one that hasn't been touched by a butcher yet.
It was just a basic service plus a couple bushings, nothing major.

I don't like the finished surface on most of these chrome plated mainspring arbor pivots I see.
Very few I have seen have had properly finished pivots before the chrome plating was done.

I have the same clock with a quartz westminster chime. Strange to see weights with a mainspring kit.

    • @jamesmartin5370
      @jamesmartin5370  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, weights are just for looks, made of aluminum very thin and light as a feather.
