We cruised from SF to Hawaii in March of 2016 and had 36 hours of the WORST seas ever on departure. 35 foot swells with 50 MPH winds - and our Captain had steered us around the worst of it! It seriously made what you guys experienced look like a walk in the park. Fortunately, neither Mrs. Grey or I are prone to seasickness, but there were many on board who weren't handling it well. Glad you made it through the rough stuff!!
One time on a gambling ship off of Corpus Christi. I was so sick but we went to the top deck outside where I could see the ocean and horizon and it made it all go away. Just sitting and rocking inside does not work for me.
I commented below but adding it here as well! :) Great video! However I would say that cruising in October was the best experience of my life to Alaska and I have been there 5 times! Rough seas are no fun for sure! We had them the last day but outside of that it was all good! Ovation was moving for sure in your video haha -- check out the video I just posted of us going through a Bomb Cyclone on the last day of the last cruise to be in Alaska in 2021! It was creaking, it was crazy and wild! Roughest seas I have experienced in 16 cruises! I would go back in October though, mainly because of what I experienced at Glacier Bay National Park. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, snowing, frozen, surrounded by ice. I think you guys need to go to Glacier Bay National Park next time you go to Alaska. Trust me, it blows away Dawes Glacier/Endicott Arm! I did that twice in August and hands down Glacier Bay wins!! :)
My wife and I just returned yesterday from an Alaskan cruise on Ovation of the Seas. It was a miserable experience. We were told not to go in October but it was the only timeframe we had. First, the Captain announced that we needed bypass Skagway due to the weather so we went on to Juneau and we got there 12 hours late so our excursion was delayed as well. After that was over we only had one hour to tour Juneau. The transit to Ketchikan was wild, extreme wind and waves, for a minute I thought I was going to role out of the bed. Next, the Captain announced we were going to bypass Ketchikan and visit Victoria BC instead, I was livid at this point. Even though we were reimbursed for the missed excursions I still feel cheated as I wanted those ports of call and the excursions. I complained to guest services but they had their speech memorized, citing the "contract" we signed and agreed to that allows changes in the itinerary in case of weather. I could tell their representative couldn't care less about my lost vacation. Also, BTW, the food quality on this ship is not very good.
I’m SO glad that I found you two! My husband and I were contemplating a cruise to Alaska late season only because we’d like to increase our chances of seeing the northern lights…
I was on the NCL Escape in October 2022 and it was fabulous. We had a major storm with heavy gales, but the rocking and rolling was rather soothing to me. I enjoyed even the roughest of it. Might have been tough in an inside stateroom, but with the balcony it was awesome.
Blueberry muffins. Fixing to go on Symphony tomorrow. We planned Wonderland on same day main dinning looked good because one of us is a non seafood picky eater.
As someone who was born, raised, and living in Ketchikan, I still can't wrap my mind around cruise lines offering cruises in October. October has always had the WORST weather! I'm glad y'all survived! You are braver than I am HANDS DOWN.
@@icedteamama176 May is less busy, but there's more rain. June a little warmer, but by that time, Season is in full tilt and is crazy busy. It depends on how you like to travel! I hate crowds, so I'd visit early June so that everything is open, but I don't have to deal with the crowds.
We were on the NCL SUN 10/20-30. The crew said the Glacier Bay Day was the best day that had seen all season. We were able to get pretty close up! Weather was cold but not a drop of rain on the whole ten day cruise. 😢 We missed the Northern Lights 😴 but some fellow cruisers got to see it. One thing, some of the excursions and shops were “closed for the season” because we were so late in October, but we really had the best weather (unlike previous Alaskan Cruise ☔️) so it made up for it. Loved it and would do it end of season again! ❤
We sailed the Anthem of the Seas in the North Sea and it got rough like that a few times. I want a big fan of Wonderland either. It’s cool but the food wasn’t so great. Give me a curry in the buffet any day!
We went sep 26 to oct 3rd on princess. Seas were very rough. And all our ports got cancelled except Juno we were very happy to be back on solid ground.
Lol I thought I would be able to handle Wonderland better! I just can’t do much seafood. We’ll def try it again next time we’re on a ship with you guys 😉 -Laura
First time to watch you guys...I got to say LOVED it had me laughing so much with the looks on your faces tasting your food was just great...I myself love the rough seas I think it's a blast half the fun is watching everyone else...On one cruise it was so rough the WHOLE crew was all sick LOL.. Best cruise ever I had the whole ship for myself. So anyway let me lock you guys in so I don't miss any of your video's...MARK IN ARIZONA...
Mark!! First of all, welcome to the Travel Squad! We so excited to have you here. We normally don’t get sick on cruises, but this was next level for almost 24 hours 😅 We didn’t stand a chance lol. It was nice having the ship so quiet though when we actually able to get up and walk around. Wish we could’ve enjoyed it more, we normally love rocky seas!
On our TA from Venice to NYC we caught the end of a nor’easter and we had waves 35+, even though the Captain tried to sail around it. They had most of the restaurants & shops closed. The waves lasted for 36 hours.
Haha, this is good. We just got back from the Ovation, we did the last Alaska cruise sailing, and the weather was cold and raining, but it was fun. Yes, we got the weather and rough seas. There were like two days, we have experienced rough seas before, but this was the first time I got a Lil seasick. We did love the coffee; we stop at the same coffee shop, but doing it all over again in 2022 but not in October
I’ve just started following your channel and I have to say out of all my subscriptions yours is one of my new favs and I’ve never even been on a cruise, I just really enjoy the experience and camaraderie between you two ❤
blueberry muffins! 🤪 also, enjoyed watching you guys dine at Wonderland! 😂 we are sailing on Anthem of the Seas in feb 2022 and are dining there. Looking forward to trying it ourselves.
We had a bad sea day just like that on the Panorama last year before the pandemic. Feb 2020. It was kinda bad, but we had a high floor room and I feel that the higher you are the lower you feel it.
Took Ovation cruise on Oct 1st-8th, it was pretty rough the 1st day. Sitting on toilet listening to all the creeking underneath was unnerving. Playing drunk ping-pong was fun. But once we got to inner sea, things calmed down. Turned out this cruise was better than the previous 3 in September because the sun came out everywhere we went. Totally enjoyed the experience. On the way back, we got to see Northern Lite, that was one bucket-list item checked off.
We were on that cruise as well. We always carry patches with us and we used them that day. It was the most movement we’ve ever experienced on a cruise before. Overall, we had a blast.
We were on that sail too! I didn’t think it was that bad 😂 had to be careful walking and rick with the boat but we never got sick and had a fabulous time! The views were amazing and filming the waves off our balcony was fun! The Northern Lights were awesome!!
It was many,, many years ago on my honeymoon. From NYC to Bermuda. 2 days to Bermuda, when we got there I told my husband let's just fly back. LOL!! No, we ended up taking the ship back. And it took me about 15 yrs to get back on a ship. So now it seems I will ONLY cruise out of FL. I can't stand rough seas or the creaking of the ship always scares me. Especially at night. I don't do well!! Not sick on my stomach just damn scared 😨😰😱 Lol!!.
Oh no!!! Yeah we’ve never experienced rough seas like that on a cruise going out of Florida. Didn’t really scare us, but pretty much all we had that day was ginger ale lol
Good job on the video but I don't understand why October is a poor time except for the precipitation, rough seas and colder weather...? Ovation of the Seas isn't the ship or line you would take if you wanted excellent cuisine...
Our last Cruise was Rocky like that! 👍 I looked like a Human Pinball walking down the Hall 🤣 Good thing I brought LOTS of Dramamine 😉 I think Wonderland would be way to Adventurous for Us 🤪 I can’t WAIT to experience Alaska on Ovation in June!! 🏔🗻🏔 Thank You for Sharing! 🥰
I have video on my phone from that morning before they drained the main pool. The water was coming out in huge waves! I wish I'd seen the seal in Ketchikan but he wasn't there when I walked through :(
You know it's rough when they put out the puke bags everywhere. 😂😂😂 Too bad you didn't like the seafood at Wonderland. The presentation is amazing though.😋
Lol... blueberry muffins! Just wondering... Did y'all take Dramamine or something like it prior to the rough seas? I ask because I really want to do Alaska but I need to wrap my mind around the rough seas and wondering if a preventative will actually help... 😩
💙💙💙 We didn’t take it before, but we took some during. It helped for a little while but didn’t last super long. Sea patches probably would’ve helped more. What helped the most was going up to the top deck and looking out at the ocean! Helps when your brain is able to connect the motion to an actual source.
I have been on some very rough cruises and am not someone who ever takes pills for anything…….but one time between New York and Halifax, it was time to try, so I had to break my rules. I took one Bonine, which I always cruise with, but never take and it was like a miracle! I could stand and eat! I highly recommend it. The plan is, if you have it with you, you won’t need it. We’re doing a Transatlantic from Spain next October and I pray for fair seas!
I was watching another channel & they said going back to your room & laying down is the worst thing you can do if you’re getting seasick. They saying go to midship & getting fresh air, eating a green apple, or ginger works. Along with motion meds. I’ve never been seasick. So I don’t know if they’re right. I just thought I share for future. Thanks for sharing…
Yup! That was Fains mistake lol. He went back to room and laid down and got really sick. I stood up on the top deck for a while. It was hard to keep my balance but I started to feel better looking at the ocean. We actually did hear the green apple trick too! -Laura
Just got off Ovation OTS from a 10 day cruise. I can say Ovation OTS is one of the best ships I’ve ever experienced. We handled pretty well with the swell, on Day 10 (sea day) the swell was massive, not as bad as yours I reckon, but the pool was literally flooding the deck with all the waves, haha. We swum in it, very scary buy super fun. Definitely got one of the worst times to cruise, high winds straight to Alaska. Next time you can cruise with Ovation I’d recommend it! (Make sure to check forecast though, weather is insane 😂 😉)
Ovation is definitely up there on our favorite ships List. And I forgot about that. The kids pool area was flooding because of the swells too! I’m glad you had a great time, we’re hoping to sail on odyssey next.
Cruised round trip from San Francisco to cabo San Lucas, the travel time off of the California coast was insane. It had huge swells just like in your video and it was miserable lol
Laura, I would have reacted exactly the same at Wonderland. I despise seafood and applaud you for you trying that lobster on a spoon. I don't think I would have. New subscriber--fun channel guys!
@@TravelSpreeOfficial OH yes! Us too! When in bed it rocked so much you almost were flew off the bed. It’s quite scary! At least we didn’t get seasick, but it was frightening!
Thanks Willy!! It was actually a pretty good deal for an Alaska cruise. I think we paid around $800 per person for our balcony cabin. But they had inside rooms for around $450 per person.
#1 I have the same black Adventure of the Seas shirt Fain does!! #2 Im with Laura, I would have skipped everything at Wonderland but the desert. My brain controls my stomach and just the thought of something I dont like would not happen. John hates that about me but it is what it is. She at least was willing to try. Id be like ummmmmm what time does the Windjammer close?? hahahaha
Hahaha. Honestly most things that weren’t seafood actually weren’t bad! The deserts were definitely amazing. Glad to say we’ve done it, not sure when we’ll go back haha. -Laura
Even the camera motion and moving back and forth between clips is getting me sea sick. Did dramatize make a difference? I think Griff got sick on his Alaska trip too.
@@TravelSpreeOfficial Ok! My cruise is october 21-28. Should I invest in moving it to early october? I really want to see whales and the northern lights.
Honestly, the camera didn’t pick up how bad it was. People threw up all outside of the windjammer, you couldn’t walk straight, we were almost rolling out of bed. It was pretty bad. Luckily it was only that day, but if you’re prone to sea sickness you would’ve been absolutely miserable.
NOT TRUE. I live here. Have taken cruises end of Sept. & first week Oct. ...it is nice usually. You happen to be here during a RARE storm cover. Besides....Alaska season normally end in Sept., with ships heading south or west at ebd season by Oct. 1st. This year was not normal.
@@TravelSpreeOfficial my parents have and they love it won’t go on another line! I am sailing with them march 4 2022 on equinox for 9 nights we are in the planning stages now for a 2023 alaska cruise! I am thinking aug but haven’t confirmed dates yet. We both get veranda mid ship rooms
Just found you guys. Love your content. New sub here. Can't wait to check out your content. My wife and I did Wonderland on Symphony of the Seas and I totally agree with you that if you don't do well with textures (or seafood) you might not like Wonderland. Very nice video.
I know people get all Toxic positivity on you some times, But some people only get one Cruise in their lives and if a certain type of cruise might shatter all expectations in the worst way people need to get that lowdown to make an informed decision. Great Vidi 😎☕💋
That's nothing. I've been in a force 10 on the Beaufort scale, for 3 days, crossing the Atlantic..Now, nothing compares to that and I certainly have my full SAILORS LEGS!!🤣🤣.. Basically, if youre allowed to go outside or public doors and cabins doors arent locked down shut, then you know it ain't bad. Tip - go to Guest Services and ask for help with the seasickness..most cruise lines will give free medicine. Cos they want Guests up n Spending $$$$$$
@@TravelSpreeOfficial It was on the Queen Mary UK Southampton- London to NYC.. Apparently, 7 out of 10 crossings encounter that !😵.. I think if I had been on a normal cruise vessel and not an ocean liner, then I would have been terrified! It pitched and rolled a bit.. any other ship would be really bad ... But I didn't mind..travelling the same path as my ancestors by sea. Heading to New York , like my Great Grandma was magical. She emigrated in the 1890s from Ireland to Boston Massachusetts / Cape Cod.. It felt very sentimental
Have anyone ever sailed in rough seas like this? Let us know when.

Yay. so glad I booked this ship during this timeframe BEFORE watching this.
Stay outside. Look at the horizon and try to be in the middle area of the ship. I found that having saltines when I travel a good idea. 🌝
WOW!! The ship rocking a lot. Always a pleasure watching y’all. Be safe and enjoy thanks for sharing.
We’re always down for some rocky seas, but not like this 😅
We cruised on NCL Encore 10/2-10/9. We had amazing weather!!! We heard the creaking too but it was beautiful and amazing in October for us.
Yeah the rest of the trip had amazing weather!
I was on that cruise back to back first two weeks in October and I loved it. Didn’t mind the rockin at all
We normally don’t mind it either, this time was different 😅
We sailed NCL on October 9th...except for rain, it was a smooth sail!
Lucky! It would’ve been a perfect cruise if it wasn’t for that one day.
Thanks for the little tour. We are doing a Alaska cruise next year for our 25 Anniversary
Sounds like the perfect anniversary trip! Enjoy!

We had sunny days but temperatures ranged from 50 to 80 degrees so making sure you had the right clothes was in important 😊
Awww poor Laura at Wonderland 😩The facial expressions said it all 🤭 you looked very pretty tho 🤩
Thank you so much!! That caviar almost didn’t make it down lol
-Laura
Thanks for this.
@@TravelSpreeOfficial Really?! That would of been hilarious 😂 Enjoy Odyssey!!
I get seasick, the wife loves rocking boats. Never gets sick. She is one tough woman.
Cruised round trip from San Francisco to cabo San Lucas, the travel time off of the California coast was insane. It had huge swells just like in your video and it was miserable lol
Oh god. Sounds like an amazing trip, but those rough seas truly are rough lol. More so just how long we were in it, 24 hours is a long time haha
Laura, I would have reacted exactly the same at Wonderland. I despise seafood and applaud you for you trying that lobster on a spoon. I don't think I would have. New subscriber--fun channel guys!
This happened to us on a cruise before…………very scary at night when there are no lights and you can’t see the swells!
The worst part was that it lasted a full 24 hours. We were in bad shape haha.
@@TravelSpreeOfficial OH yes! Us too! When in bed it rocked so much you almost were flew off the bed. It’s quite scary! At least we didn’t get seasick, but it was frightening!
So what’s the deal with Blueberry muffins?
Blueberry muffins?? Whatever do you mean? 🤫😂
Great video! New subscriber 😊 1st 👍
Due to a GREAT deal, I’m looking at an NCL cruise this Oct. Was it still worth it? Would you discourage people from cruising in OCT to Alaska?
Definitely go for it! Just bring some Dramamine and you’ll be ok!
Wow, which room/cabin were you in? Which deck? Sorry you had this bad experience.
Balcony, deck 7.
Thinking about going in October. People have told me a lot of things are closed in October. Did you have that experience?
Oh I've been though rougher
Yeah that was our roughest for sure! The video didn’t do it justice honestly 😅
We love cruising to Alaska. I would starve at Wonderland, I don't eat weird stuff. I will save the money and get pizza.
I agree Wonderland food looks like nothing I'd eat.
We may or may not have gotten pizza later on lol
Love the channel. How much did the cruise cost for both of you?
-Laura
@@TravelSpreeOfficial I totally get that!!!
Even the camera motion and moving back and forth between clips is getting me sea sick. Did dramatize make a difference? I think Griff got sick on his Alaska trip too.
Oh no!! Yeah we both took Dramamine. It helped a little but it wore off kind of quickly.
Where was the ship when y'all saw the northern lights?
Leaving juneau, on the way back to Seattle
@@TravelSpreeOfficial Ok! My cruise is october 21-28. Should I invest in moving it to early october? I really want to see whales and the northern lights.
Lower floors are better and on middle of the ship.
I mean.. for Alaska well into fall.. not terrible. I’ve been in worse swells outta Miami.
I was surprised that you cruised in October the last cruise is usually in September
Never ate at Wonderland and never will! lol. It just really is not us!
Lol! The look on her face is exactly how i would look!
NOT TRUE. I live here. Have taken cruises end of Sept. & first week Oct. ...it is nice usually. You happen to be here during a RARE storm cover. Besides....Alaska season normally end in Sept., with ships heading south or west at ebd season by Oct. 1st. This year was not normal.
That’s good to hear that it’s not normally like that!
@@TravelSpreeOfficial we are doing a 9 day out of Seattle Oct 11-20 this year
May thru September is the best time to cruise alaska! Not October
Also i am planning a cruise there leaving from Vancouver on celebrity cruise line probably sometime in june july or august 2023
Yeah, we learned the hard way. But it was kinda a bitter sweet experience because of how the rest of the trip ended up going
I wouldn’t mind going back and never sailed celebrity before. Have you sailed with them?
@@TravelSpreeOfficial my parents have and they love it won’t go on another line! I am sailing with them march 4 2022 on equinox for 9 nights we are in the planning stages now for a 2023 alaska cruise! I am thinking aug but haven’t confirmed dates yet. We both get veranda mid ship rooms
Why would you go so late in the year??
The deals were amazing! :)
Just found you guys. Love your content. New sub here. Can't wait to check out your content. My wife and I did Wonderland on Symphony of the Seas and I totally agree with you that if you don't do well with textures (or seafood) you might not like Wonderland. Very nice video.
Welcome to the Travel Squad guys!! Thank you so much for subbing. We’re doing Symphony in April and we cannot wait!
Maybe it's just your last videos, but are most of your videos negative?
lol Nope, 99% positive
The rough sea doesn’t bother me.
Normally they don’t bother us! We’d never had an issue with seasickness before that day.
HAHAHA “it taste like tomato water”
The name of the dish was an extremely accurate description of the taste lol
I know people get all Toxic positivity on you some times, But some people only get one Cruise in their lives and if a certain type of cruise might shatter all expectations in the worst way people need to get that lowdown to make an informed decision. Great Vidi 😎☕💋
BLUEBERRY MUFFINS
you 2 make a lovely couple
Blue berry muffins
💙
That's nothing. I've been in a force 10 on the Beaufort scale, for 3 days, crossing the Atlantic..Now, nothing compares to that and I certainly have my full SAILORS LEGS!!🤣🤣..
Basically, if youre allowed to go outside or public doors and cabins doors arent locked down shut, then you know it ain't bad.
Tip - go to Guest Services and ask for help with the seasickness..most cruise lines will give free medicine. Cos they want Guests up n Spending $$$$$$
Omg 😳 can’t even imagine that!
@@TravelSpreeOfficial
It was on the Queen Mary UK Southampton- London to NYC..
It felt very sentimental
blueberry muffins
I would have stopped at the door.
Blueberry muffins
💙💙💙
👍👍👍done
You’re the best!
I drive Uber in Vegas and all of my passengers that live and come from Alaska say the food is HORRIBLE in Alaska. 🤣💀
Really?! Wow! Yeah the ship food was definitely not the best for this cruise.
Rough seas? you go to medical and get the free meds!
Very true! We brought our own, but you can get them free there
Alaska in October. LOL.NO!!!!!!
