SHINee was the first kpop group I got into and Replay was the song that got me into them.
And I was just watching Taemin’s live performance of “Sexuality”, so it’s just so funny to watch him in Replay as a 15 yr old nugget.
"Sexuality" is everything!!! Yeah, he was so sweet, innocent, and smiley here and now he's busy basically seducing the world 😂

I'm glad you guys remembered I said this was from 2008 even though it said 2011 on it 😀 And Ambitious Ace correctly identified Taemin (not sure if you just remembered what I said he was wearing or if you just recognized him.) Around this time (2008) SM did try to penetrate the American market with their top female artist BoA with her English song "Eat You Up". Unfortunately it wasn't a success but the U.S. really slept on this joint..I think it's fire (reminds me of 80s Janet Jackson but also modern) Check it out sometime. Now in her early 30s she's one of the pillars at SM (she debuted there in 2000 at the age of 13!) and while still recording music (she recently came out with "Woman") she's also a creative director there.

pretty sure eat you up was 09 c': and then i think energetic was 2010.
J2 Kay - I just checked to make sure and the single of "Eat You Up" was released in 2008 although the full album (and "Energetic") was released in 2009.
it wasn't a success but i think she had some success. she got to star with derek hough in a hollywood film.

Nice reaction! One of the first kpop videos and group that I heard & listened to back in 2008 along with Girls Generation - Gee. I still remember the countdown & behind the scenes footage of shinee debuting & the anticipation of it.
Shinee holds my heart, and to see you liking it, and not hating or making it seem weird makes me so happy! I'm glad y'all genuinely like it because iSSA BOP and I hope you check out more, they debuted in 2008, and having been crushing the game ever since, they're a beloved group and each member is talented in each and every aspect. You should def listen to Lucifer, Ring ding dong and one of my favourites excuse me miss, and dazzling world (jijong kills it!!)
Yeah, sometimes folks act like if you show old kpop to new reactors their heads will explode because it looks and sounds different from the stuff coming out today. But Dame Diddy and Ambitious Ace are in their 30s and have experienced a lot of different music throughout their lives. And I like Dame Diddy referencing American music that came out then to put it into context.

Danielle I was just starting to get into SHINee about 2 months before Jonghyun's passing, but I was listening to quite a bit of their stuff, and I felt like I could still hear him (in Story vol1). It was a bittersweet experience.
overthemoo definitely. I could hear the parts that would’ve been his and I could hear where his background vocals would be. And there were songs I just knew he’d love. ❤️
They have some epic stuff. Epic. I mean, something like One Minute Back and the veritable Wall of Sound they create...I just... ugh.
SarahKpopUSA definitely. I wish they were more appreciated. They’ve really blessed my soul lol.
Danielle I wonder if they seem ‘less appreciated’ because of present-day greater focus on Kpop in general and 3rd Gen groups in particular? I’m not complaining, I’m quite happy for the overall attention. But the down side is that they’re just old enough that they’re not promoting with the same intensity as others.
Then there is the set-back from the tragedy, needing to mourn and essentially catch their breath. They probably have an eye on pending military service, so that slows things down. I guess it adds up to needing Presence in places like this, to bring them into the sphere. And then some patience. I think SHINee is the type of group that is kind of like a grapevine hidden in a forest. It takes more effort to encounter them, but the vine is well established and the fruit is sweeter. So finding it is extra worth it.
Taemin was 14 at that time, it was their debut song and they've been amazing since then.
I couldn't stop crying, it's been a year since Jonghyun passed away, the first one to sing in the video. This is my favorite Shinee song and I'm so glad you reacted to this. It's bittersweet to hear his amazing voice and know that he is no longer here...😭💔

Yup, this was their debut!!! And this regularly lands extremely high on people's lists of best kpop debuts. If you watch DareDB's kpop channel he's been doing poll videos every three years (2012, 2015, 2018) of the best kpop debuts and "Replay" has landed the #1 spot every.single.time. Pretty incredible as these lists tend to shift as new kpop fans come in & some songs & groups fade from memory. But "Replay" has always had incredible staying power.
Just by the fact that you guys were willing to react to an OG KPOP masterpiece that is Replay, deserved my thumbs up~

My heart breaks and soars every time I hear those opening chords and Jonghyun's first notes.
I still love this video. Jonghyun, the first vocalist, is the one who yanked me into the Kpop Nation...and it happened with this video. I haven't been the same since discovering Kpop 10 years ago. I find it a little funny that Taemin is wearing a shirt that says Wicked and a few years later that's a title of one of his solo tracks.

Great Throwback Tueday! While you’re throwing it back you should react to Bi Rain - “I’m Coming HD” lots of the new KPOP Artist credit Bi Rain for his 15 + yrs. of amazing R&B style and hip hop dancing! Plus Bi Rain was the Ninja Assassin in the US filmed movie as well as Disney’s Speed Racer!

I am a hip hop head and also a 100% confirmed Shawol (shinee fan) I’ve even traveled to different continents to see them specifically and the reason this song may sound familiar is it’s often compared to the song “Dance Tonight”by Lucy Pearl in terms of structure and melody (I think it definitely inspired it and that’s why it resonated so hard with me when I first heard it). I’m biased so I’d say react to all their back catalogue but for me I think the ones that give a flavour of their progression over the last 10 years plus would be:
1) Ring Ding Dong or Lucifer (solid kpop songs with iconic choreography)
2) Sherlock (my first shinee song and totally an MJ tribute including choreography by Tony Testa who worked with MJ too)
3) Symptoms or one minute back (these showcase their RnB credentials and also get to check them out live)
4) View (amazing house vibes)
5) 1of1 ( New Jack Swing tribute -imagine if New Edition or Today did a Kpop song in 1991, this would be it!)
6) Good Evening (after the heartbreak of losing Jonghyun this song and whole comeback in 2018 was so moving and extra props if you recognise the 00s RnB sample in the song!)
I could go on some of the deep album cuts are straight up fire and their live performances are legendary too, they are my ultimate Kpop group for so many reasons and I’m excited to see you discover them too.

p.s. just a fun fact that this debut was one of the most popular at the time (and is still considered one of the best, if not the best, kpop debut) and because the song was directed toward an older woman (“Noona”) they got a whole bunch of and became popular for having “older women/Noona” fans

I have always run hot and cold with Shinee - absolutely love some of their stuff and hate others. But that is to be expected for a band that has been around as long as them with such a vast discography and constant reinvention of their sound.
But the one thing that's truly undeniable a out them is that right from the start that was five original, utterly distinct voices you could pick from a crowd with ease. And that carries weight.

Guys you mentioned B2K vibes -- surprised no one has really recommended Big Bang?! They’re also from first gen kpop and are still making bangers! Seriously considered and widely recognised (globally too) as Kings it Kpop - BTS look up to them massively! Most recent videos would be Bang Bang Bang, Loser, Bae Bae - they’ve done everything from hip hop, rnb, EDM, indie, punk rock and more.
For throwback B2K vibes you should react to A Fool of Tears (this is basically Omarion meets Mario meets B2K meets Usher/Neto) and La La La for Hip Hop vibesssssss. Love your reactions! Keep it up.

This is one or maybe the most iconic debut song! Is so classic... I don't really know if groups of the 2nd generation of kpop sing their debut song but SHINee does, and is so beautiful, you should check their versions of SWC IV & SWCV or a compilation through the years and you will know what I mean 💕.... Shinee's showmanship really shines in their concert performances. Not sure if you can react to those but definitely worth checking out. ( noteworthy are: one minute back, 1000 years and evil). Juliette does have music video and is great as well.

"they sound like it's from 2008" yes true this shinee debuted in 2008 and this song is from 2008 not 2011. Its just SM reupload the song in 2011 again into their new channel. And all of the songs from old channel that realest before 2011 too.

Nope, SHINee “Replay” song is 12 years old as old as the group itself....they debuted 2008, 2 yrs after BigBang (Kings of Kpop)!
I will NEVER grow tire of this track.
And I love all the B2K mentions. (I'm assuming I'm around your ages then.) So, on that note, I can't recall if you have seen it yet but got7's "A" has a lot of similar vibes in both video and sounds!
