      Also, depending on the nightvision, the cheap ones shine with a small green light in the front. I am guessing they wont have USMC gear but more like the cheap shit... so you are in dark, green eyes watching from everywhere.
      I would be fuckin uncomfortable as fuck and I did a lot of airsoft shit in complete darkness, I am not uncomfortable in the dark at all and would not mind the wedding. But the staff watching is just so much worse.

      @@FlyingPanda324 They are not that bad, but they do limit fow quite a lot and it would probably be quite a job for the waiters. Even just walking around the people while you have nightvision and they cannot see shit.
      Its just a super bad idea all around. Maybe if the groom was into it, it could be a gimick wedding. But having a normal wedding just in complete darkness sounds like a fuckin nightmare.
      I can imagine making it work if both the bride and the groom wanted it. Have a buffe table instead of serving, have it iluminated by very pale green or red light (red is eery as fuck though, so probably green) and have a green lightstick, the big one, iluminating every table. Have mostly finger food and stuff where you dont really have to see much. It would still suck for the regular guests though :D
      I am also guessing the parents would not be happy with it at all. All the handicapped people I know dont want to bother people too much with their handicap and want to be treated normaly. Just with the handicap in mind, but normaly. So maybe dont take them to see a movie, but a wedding could be just a normal god damn venue and I am sure they will be completely happy with it.

      @@CZProtton I just don't understand how that would make someone uncomfortable. The staff would be able to watch you if the lights were on, but now because you can't see them, you're going to assume they're doing what exactly?
      I can understand concerns about stuff being stolen, but I feel like it's just some weird social pressure where people are afraid they'll act like their true selves and other people will see it.

Now he apparently doesn’t care about his relationship with his step mom despite agreeing to let her friends come to the party to appease her. Plus, the dude kept doubling down after every loss. He could have just said the questions were bothering him and he took it too far, and instead he just started laughing at the kid, the parents, and his step mom.

No logic or empathy lives in there, clearly. Poor kid.

    That wedding one was nuts. Of course people are going to tolerate it to attend a loved one's wedding. That doesn't mean they enjoy the idea. If the event was specifically, say, a blindfolded dinner, it'd be one thing - people are deliberately attending for the sake of that gimmick. But she doesn't seem to realize the RSVPs are *in spite* of the gimmick, not *because* of it. Weddings of course should cater to the tastes of the wed, but it's also a crucial moment for loved ones to see a cherished family member enter a new phase of life. Give the attendees the option to wear a blind fold when eating maybe, but that's really the most I think should be incorporated.

    As a blind person the wedding one seemed really strange and out of touch. Struck me strongly of 'I am offended for you and trying to act blind because I know blind people'. And yes watching a bunch of sighted people stumble in the dark like idiots would be funny, it isn't realistic as a blind person. That is why you have the cane you know. (And for those few blind people who read and don't use a cane, stop being stubborn and go get your training)

    • @goaway9977
      @goaway9977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yeah plus many donors end up being the biological father of 10+ kids. It's unreasonable to expect him to treat all these kids as family, even if they are all adults when they make contact. There is a donor sibling registry however, where you can elect to put up your contact info and meet other people who have the same donor father as yourself. While not quite the same as meeting your biological father, I think it is a pretty great alternative to connect with people that share that half of your DNA.

    • @brendanmystery
      @brendanmystery 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Medical info is understandable to reach out to the donor for. Even more so if they want to start a family (not saying that is the case in this scenario). This situation has multiple layers to it. Not only is the OP, not the father or even the donor, OP is also not even in contact anymore with the donor.

      same, as a donor kid I agree with NL and I agree the poster isn't an asshole for this. I've taken a gene test and talked to one of my many half "siblings" but they are all just strangers to me. And even though I didn't find anything about the "father" I think it'd be insane to try to involve myself in his family just because we share genes, one meetup at most to learn maybe medical history is fair.

    • @kiiturii
      @kiiturii 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know I’m replying forever later but… yeah, donor kid here too; I have 0 interest in learning anything about the donor and honestly even looking into half-siblings would feel too odd (but maybe that’s because I have several full siblings already). The guy seems mean but not in the wrong, they’re not family. That being said: it felt like he was very specifically avoiding saying *why* the kid reached out? Left me wondering if he didn’t want to look worse by revealing that their parents had passed away or that he’d gone no contact with them, etc.

    15:40 The thing about this one is it just sounds like a really fun idea. It's like originally you got the idea from accommodating your parents, but then it was like wait, this sounds really cool. People will still be able to see, and in my experience 90% of the reception is spent with the lights down as low as they can be anyway. Honestly I would love to got to a wedding like that it sounds so fun. Although to be fair About Time is one of my favourite movies so they already had me on board when they referenced that.
    I also think people, including NL are just way overthinking it. Not in terms of the safety that should be thought about and considered. But it's their wedding and they wanna have fun with it and do their own thing. You might not have had fond memories of your wedding if it was yours, but that's why it isn't your wedding. If they wanna do it, and they do it and love it, and have great memories of their cool wedding, then the wedding has served it's purpose to be honest. What other people think really doesn't matter that much!

      My local library is currently closed due to a fire and as a favor to my mother who is a local council member, I agreed to host the Drag Queen Story Hour in my grandfathers palatial home library which I recently inherited. One of the kids in attendance, who I incorrectly assumed was a boy due to her short hair and non-gender specific attire, came up to me and asked me how many people I was in a relationship in. When I answered "just one, my girlfriend", she asked me if that meant that I didn't believe in polyamory. I responded that I am agnostic to the idea, but that personally I find monogamous relationships preferable. She said "oh, so you're one of those incels then right?" This kind of annoyed me, so I responded "yeah, that's why I have those AR15s in the basement. The incel rebellion has begun brother!". She instantly started crying, snot running down her face, and ran to one of the drag queens and told him that she did not feel safe in this house and that they should all leave. My mother is furious with me and says this incident has hurt her chances at reelection. My dad wrote an fb post apologising on my behalf but soon after deleted it. Now my mom and her boyfriend won't even let dad sleep in the house with them. AITA?

    The wedding story is a rough one.
    On one hand, I get the appreciation for the blind parents. I get that it's painful living with these handicaps weighing you down, but this is the wedding of her and her husband, it's not an obstacle course. People don't come to your special day to be reminded of how lucky they are to not be disabled - that's such a fucked up thing to subject people to without a will of their own.
    And don't even wing it with the excuse "But everyone already agreed to come!", of course they did. You think your friends would openly tell you in your face that this is a bad idea?
    It's even worse that she keeps riling up herself on this point, too. "The point isn't about making people uncomfortable!", YES IT IS, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!! What do you THINK people will feel coming to a pretend-blind wedding? "Oh I quite like whatever I'm eating honey, I'm so glad we've been invited to Rachel's wedding! ...Honey? Oh sorry, it's you, John?"
    A verbal agreement doesn't make people less uncomfortable with your idea man. You just coerce them to play along because otherwise they'll be "That person who couldn't even come to my wedding" and you know damn well that's what she'll say in the aftermath, 99% of people do.

    I love how NL doesn't think conflict or strange people are real.

    I know it would make the scoring much more complicated, but it should be an option to say something to the effect of ‘Based, Red Pilled, but Your the Asshole.’ I very often pick NTA because that’s closest to the spirit of what I think, but if I could say I agree with you and would probably have done the same or similar to what you did, but that makes us both assholes, I would pick that. Thanks for attending my TED talk.

    I just don't understand why the aunt invited a gay person to her wedding if she didn't want gay people at her wedding. If you're that homophobic where seeing two people just existing upsets you, maybe you should save everyone the effort and just admit you're a piece

    The whole pitch black wedding thing sounds awesome. However I would like to see who I’m talking to during the reception. Not to mention glow bracelets and necklaces would have a “zebra effect” on the dance floor and you won’t know where people actually are

      as someone who went to "many nightclubs and raves in their teens", you would've thought that OP would have remembered how chaotic those kinds of places are.

    In the marketplace of ideas, I load up on Northernlion calls, exercise them the day they expire, and collect a frankly obscene dividend in pogs.

    My opinion on wedding stories like this is generally “your wedding is about you, but you’re also a host so don’t do a bunch of crap to inconvenience them”. Save the goofy themes for when you only a small group that would enjoy it
